[Bug 398218] [NEW] Sleep mode on MSI X320 not possible

2009-07-11 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

System: MSI X320 (Atom N530, Poulsbo Chipset)
Linux xb 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 19:49:51 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux

On suspend to RAM the machine goes down correctly, then wakes up immediately
again.
From there on, the screen flickers, machine irresponsive.
Reboot required.

[Bug 393090] [NEW] mmc: Timeout waiting for hardware interupt

2009-06-28 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Machine: MSI X320 slim notebook, N530 Atom processor, Poulsbo chip set

This seems to be a collection of previous bugs:

I get:
mmc0: Timeout waiting for hardware interupt
sdhci: == REGISTER DUMP =
...

This occurs every second. Syslog is swamped with this message.

I can put the machine to sleep mode, but it does not wake up regularly (have to
keep power button pressed).
On occasions, when it does wake up the screen flickers (and I have to use the
4s power button trick).

[Bug 370943] Re: left mouse button inactive after wakeup

2009-05-06 Thread Wolf Rogner
News from my mouse:

After Reboot the mouse does not get recognized at all. I have to wait
for several seconds after the desktop is fully loaded then I have to
switch the mouse off and on again.

The middle scroll wheel does not work in the upward direction. Scrolling
down works fine, scrolling upwards does not work.

I use an Apple Mighty Mouse (wireless). A USB mouse works fine (and to
prevent further questions, yes the mouse scrolls up on windows, so its
not broken).

[Bug 367244] [NEW] tracker does not adjust to performance settings

2009-04-26 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

In tracker-preferences one can adjust how the tracker uses system
resources in the performance tab.

However, in 9.04 none of these settings show any effect. Same
performance requirements whether using memory or not (memory footprint
stays the same), same cpu requirements (whether doing faster or slower
setting).

On my 2 processor NB it constantly takes 70% of one CPU.

For a tool that constantly reports errors due to access problems to the
index database, no observable search results (it does not even find a
file that sits in my user directory, let alone somewhere down the path),
not capable of doing content search, this is a lot of waste of
resources.

Q1: Where is the documentation as to what it is supposed to do?
Q2: How can I uninstall it without removing all the other programs?

[Bug 367244] Re: tracker does not adjust to performance settings

2009-04-26 Thread Wolf Rogner
Final note: The tooltip suggests that there is a progress in the
indexing (files indexed number rising). THe statistics do the same.
However, the process odt2txt is stuck with only one file (which is not
too big) and there is no progress doing searches.

So to me, it hangs.

[Bug 355015] Re: network-manager looses connection after 8 hours

2009-04-06 Thread Wolf Rogner
Most certainly this is a software bug. The same issue happens on different
vendor notebooks.
The nx8220 is just my test machine.

Try the following:

Connect to a wireless network using WPA2 / PSK.
Enter the password: testtest

Now in network manager Edit Connection: select the Auto SSID and edit
settings. Select the Wireless security tab.

Show password and you will get:
3bd98d9c569fe00e7354e94efed7a9e4138c567094f8684fbc7664e73ebea812

This is not testtest

Now disconnect the link (by resetting the router for example). NM tries
to reconnect. It will not succeed. The logon dialog will have a password
preselected:
3bd98d9c569fe00e7354e94efed7a9e4138c567094f8684fbc7664e73ebea812

Note here: the password is testtest the generated key is
3bd98d9c569fe00e7354e94efed7a9e4138c567094f8684fbc7664e73ebea812.

The key is used instead of the password and run through the routines
(wpa_passphrase) again. This can never work.

So: If the connection breaks, a reconnect is not possible because the
wrong password/key is used. I have not figured out whether you read from
the seahorse container or some other place. The error occurs only in
cases of broken wifi connection (btw. the same error happens with mobile
internet cards)

This has nothing to do with chipsets. Please fix the error in the
software.

[Bug 355015] Re: network-manager looses connection after 8 hours

2009-04-06 Thread Wolf Rogner
Did some more investigation:

the package in question is nm-applet. I think that the files in question
are ws-wpa-psk.c and wireless-security.c.

Why does the author presume that if the keylength is 64 chars, it is the
key they are dealing and not the passphrase?

Another question: why does the author use two different types of
security descriptor?

[Bug 355015] [NEW] network-manager looses connection after 8 hours

2009-04-04 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

in Ubuntu 9.04 beta (Linux hb 2.6.28-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar
27 09:00:52 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux) network manager looses wireless
connection after approximately 8 hours.

This occurs permanently.

It could be triggered by wireless stations appearing or disappearing.

When looking at the peer list after disconnect, there always 20+ stations in
the list.
Disabling and enabling wireless network finds only 5 - 10 SSIDs.

This happened in 8.10 beta as well. It became better in 8.10 stable and now is
back.
Worse than before: In 8.10 I got the logon to network dialog. I do not get it
in 9.04 (well I got it twice, but its not a pattern).

There is another issue:

The password that gets retrieved from the keyring is STILL wrong.

While you are at it: Please fix the bug that when connecting the first
time, the password is fetched correctly, on reconnect you get try to use
the hash. This does not work.

[Bug 346284] [NEW] Access to network not possible

2009-03-21 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

In OpenOffice (3.0.1--7ubuntu1intrepid1) I cannot even load documents
from a samba server.

In 3.0.1-5 I could load documents from samba shares but not store (which works
well on 2.4.1).
Now I cannot even load documents from network shares.

This renders OpenOffice 3.x in production environments pretty useless.

My setup:

Workstation: Ubuntu 8.10, OpenOffice 3.0.1-7
Server: Ubuntu 8.10, samba 3.2.3

Just to make sure: Storage and retrieval from samba shares works with
gedit. So it IS OpenOffice.

Please look into this and fix it.

[Bug 346284] Re: Access to network not possible

2009-03-21 Thread Wolf Rogner
I found an entry in Jaunty bug tracking:

It recommends launching OOo with %F instead of %U.

Tried this: OOo will create and load files from samba shares.

HOWEVER: Every 2nd time the file is loaded read only !!!

This can be reproduced even accross sessions.

So %F as workaround helps only so far.

[Bug 280956] Re: [iwl3945] network manager looses connection to WPA2 router after some time

2008-12-28 Thread Wolf Rogner
In my case its a g network with netgear enhancements (supports up to 108
Mb/s). My notebooks connect using pure 801.11g (54Mb/s).

My observation:

In my are there is a high density of WiFi routers (50+). They are not
operated on a regular basis but rather turned on and off irregularly.
Before disconnect I see 10+ router announcements, after reconnect, there
are usually only 2 - 4 networks available.

To me it seems as if the local database of announced SSIDs has a hard
coded limit. When this exceeds, the connection terminates (just a
hypothesis).

Most of the routers operate on channels that I do not use (default
settings 6 and 11).

Please fix the wrong password issue at least. NM takes the wrong key
from the seahorse repository.

2008-12-09 Thread Wolf Rogner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 286828 ***

1. GEdit (as any other apps) works fine on my machines with gfvs.
2. OOo 2.4.1 works fine

= There is nothing wrong with the kernel or gvfs

3. OOo 3.0 does not save files on smb shares. Produces well known error message
(see above)
4. Saving same file as text or MS Office format works fine.

= This must have something to do with the new ODF1.2 format filter

5. There is no ODF 1.1 filter !!!
6. There is no docx filter either ??? (Its supposed to be somewhere)

[Bug 298177] Re: OpenOffice 3.0 save to smb network fails

2008-12-08 Thread Wolf Rogner
Did some experimenting:

MSHOME is not stored anywhere on my machine (in any configuration file
that is). If this is the case, MSHOME must be hard coded in OOo.

It works perfectly fine with 2.4.1 and 3.0 (ooo.org downloaded version).

I am a bit disappointed about how theses issues get worked on.

Sorry. My Server is samba 3.0.24.

I tried this with an old 7.10. I am required to log on, then I can see my
shares.
On 8.04 and 8.10 I do not see my shares any more.
I have to KNOW what shares are available in order to connect.

Have not changed the settings on the server.

[Bug 298363] [NEW] nm-applet tries to logon with wrong key

2008-11-15 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

As reported in 280956 the network manager looses connection to WPA2
enabled wireless router.

When it asks to reconnect it suggests the wrong key.

The key suggested it the same string as produced with

wpa_passphase myssid mykey

If I change the key suggested to the correct key, logon works.

I presume this might be the reason that the conection breaks in the
fiirst place (but have no time to confirm myself).

Maybe the auto reconnect has some flaw.

Open Office 3.0 (launchpad repository) fails to save a document to a

On save, the dialog to enter username and password appears (with guest

document.

[Bug 280956] [NEW] network manager looses connection to WPA2 router after some time

2008-10-09 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Intrepid Ibex beta, network-manager 0.7.0

Linux 2.6.27-6-generic #1 SMP

Network manager looses connection after a certain period (not even till
key change). It queries the key but does not log into WPA2 again.

In seahorse, the key is not stored but a psk is stored instead. This is the
same key as produced by wpa_password with the key as passphrase.
However, if the key in seahorse is replaced with the correct key again, login
mostly succeeds (mostly only because this is not reproducable but requires
several attempts).

On 8.0.4.1 network manager 0.6.6 it works fine (logon is slow though)

[Bug 246746] Re: xsane hangs again

2008-07-10 Thread Wolf Rogner
I started testing Ubuntu Hardy with the 1st beta, so its hard to know
when first it worked (as far as I remember though, hardy beta did not
work until the day before release on my laptops).

So I am quite convinced it worked with 8.04 release.

Apport does not produce a crash report, xsane simple is in sleep mode.

I don't know how to upgrade to Intrepid version. Version selection does
not work on xsane (?).

[Bug 246746] Re: xsane hangs again

2008-07-09 Thread Wolf Rogner
1. Attached Canon FB636U using USB to machine
2. Started xsane
3. tried to aqcuire image - xsane hangs

I expected it to work like it used to work previously, slow but doing a
prescan. Nothing

I have reported this several times in 6.10, 7.04 and 7.10. With 8.04 it
worked for the first time after years (used to scan in 6.06). However,
after several updates I have lost track when it stopped working again.

The scanner is attached to a USB device correctly. It does not react to
scan commands.

[Bug 234740] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse not activated after resume

2008-05-25 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 8.04 with an Apple Mighty Mouse.

On startup the mouse connects to the notebook fine. It takes a while but
works.

After suspend to RAM and resume, the mouse does not connect again.

A workaround is:

In Bluetooth Manager - Browse Devices...
I select my Mighty Mouse and Connect.

The mouse still does not get connected.

After a while an error appears:

Couldn't display obex://[00:1F:5B:AD:42:54]/
Error: Host down
Please select another viewer and try again.
[OK]

If I click any mouse button, the mouse starts working.

My expectation: After resume, the bound mouse should be recognized.

Test scenarios:
Mouse on, Computer booted, - OK
Mouse off, Computer booted, Mouse on, - OK (after some time)
Mouse on, Suspend, Wakeup, - NOK
Mouse on, Suspend, Mouse off, Wakeup, Mouse on, - NOK

[Bug 222468] [NEW] gnome-rdp error connecting to the database

2008-04-26 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Starting gnome-rdp after upgrading 7.10 - 8.04 I got an error that
gnome-rdp could not connect to the database

#149542 supposedly describes a workaround (which does not work)
#174102 shows a dump that is similar to what I get starting gnome-rdp from
console

sqlite3 .gnome-rdp
sqlite select * from session;
1|0|0|s|0|10.1.0.10|Administrator||RSB|1|2|1024|768|0|de|0|0|0|0|0
2|0|0|sb|1|sb0|0|640|480|0|en-us|1|0|0|0|0

... brings up a list of entries (available in the old setting)

doing this with a newly created file, I get:
sqlite select * from session;
SQL error: file is encrypted or is not a database

I seems that the new gnome-rdp does not handle unencrypted files
properly

** Affects: gnome-rdp (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

VousDeux: Do you still experience the issue?

We have 8.04 now and none of my machines has trouble working with
Syaptics any more.

Please confirm as it is helpful to the developers to keep a clear view
on open issues, Thanks.
