[Bug 1933201] Re: ath10k_pci QCA6174 firmware crash on suspend
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected third-party-packages ulyssa ** Description changed: Hi, Another issue with Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 (very similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1827879), this time using Mint 20.1/Ubuntu 20.04: when suspending laptop, firmware often (80%) crashes (see kernel log at bottom). It prevents the computer from properly suspend, and many component hang (can't poweroff properly, can't use "sudo", can't "modprobe -r" or "rmmod"…), so it basically makes the computer unusable once this happens. If I manually unload ath10k_pci module before suspend, suspend/resume works perfectly. Unfortunately, I could not find a reliable way to unload this module before suspend (either via a systemd unit or via /lib/systemd/system-sleep/ script). If I understand properly, the issue comes from the loaded firmware (/lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6142/hw2.1/firmware-5.bin) which is proprietary so can't be fixed. However, fixing the ath10k module or the kernel so that it can recover from such a problem would be great if possible. Note that I tried with linux-image-generic (linux-headers-5.4.0-74-generic) and linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04 (linux-image-5.8.0-55-generic). Package linux-firmware is in version 1.187.14. [Bug 1841313] [NEW] Asus X451MA does not boot with linux > 4.15.0-55
Public bug reported: Hi, On an Asus X451MA running Linux Mint 18.3 (Ubuntu 16.04.3), last kernel update from 4.15.0-55 to 4.15.0-58 prevents it from booting: it hangs at the beginning of boot. I tested with kernel 4.15.0-59 from "xenial-proposed" and with a live image of Ubuntu 18.04.2 and the issue remains. I could not test with a more recent kernel on this same install because it requires libssl1.1 that is not available in the Xenial repositories. I suppose it does not help, but a picture from live Ubuntu 18.04.2 is attached. I will provide more information with apport very soon. Do not hesitate to ask if I can provide other details or test other versions / parameters. [Bug 1509660] [NEW] Fails to upgrade: `efibootmgr: Could not add entry to BootOrder: No space left on device`
Public bug reported: On my MacBook, the grub upgrade of this morning failed silently: no error was reported by the graphical update manager. On reboot, it then skipped grub and booted directly to OSX. Reboot again holding `alt` key did not list Ubuntu. My solution was to boot on a 15.04 usb key, to chroot on the disk and to run grub-mkdevicemap (running "update-grub" or "apt-get install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64" did not work). After that, rebootingon Ubuntu was possible. [Bug 1498381] [NEW] journald 100% CPU and fill the drive

Public bug reported: Dear maintainers, I am running ocsinventory-agent with anacron like this : # ocsinventory-agent 1> /dev/null I would expect output only if there is an error, so that I am notified only if there is a problem. [Bug 1432827] [NEW] display corruption and crash with Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300
Public bug reported: Hi, Sorry for this poor bug report, I couldn't manage to use "ubuntu-bugs": it never leads me to the webpage where I can add a comment and validate. I am also not sure against which package this should be reported. So, using Xubuntu 14.04 64 bits on a Dell Latitude D820 with the nouveau driver (1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2, with libdrm-nouveau2 2.4.56-1~ubuntu2), there is random display corruption at bootsplash followed by a crash of nouveau. The graphical card is a "Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300" as reported by lspci. In my opinion, this is random only because the bootsplash of Xubuntu is not very "ressource demanding" : see those two bug reports for the exact same problem on Debian and Fedora: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=773368 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1102066 Strangely, the crash comes more often if I use more recent kernels. I tried the last "minor version" of all "major version" downloaded from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/, all with the same result : linux-image-3.14.35-031435-generic_3.14.35-031435.201503071936_amd64.deb linux-image-3.15.10-031510-generic_3.15.10-031510.201408132333_amd64.deb linux-image-3.16.7-031607-generic_3.16.7-031607.201410301735_amd64.deb linux-image-3.18.9-031809-generic_3.18.9-031809.201503080036_amd64.deb linux-image-3.19.1-031901-generic_3.19.1-031901.201503080052_amd64.deb lspci : 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Port 1 (rev 01) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Port 2 (rev 01) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Port 3 (rev 01) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Port 4 (rev 01) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 01) 00:1d.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 01) 00:1d.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 01) 00:1d.3 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 01) 00:1d.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev e1) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 01) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) SATA Controller [IDE mode] (rev 01) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family SMBus Controller (rev 01) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1) 03:01.0 CardBus bridge: O2 Micro, Inc. [Bug 1406325] Re: [MacBook7,1] suspend/resume failure
You are right to clarify. My concern is that this problem appears "randomly" for each kernel version, even on minor updates on 14.04 kernel (has I said at the beginning), so I wanted to give a global vision of the problem. The link to the SRU procedure is very interesting, but : - I do not have much time to do this. - I do not understand enough all the implications this could have. Anyway, thanks for your time, and maybe I will follow the SRU procedure if I have time and courage. [Bug 1406325] Re: [MacBook7,1] suspend/resume failure
I just downloaded and tried the daily-live image. It seems there is no problem with resuming from suspend, but after a resume I can not suspend again before approximately one minute. It was difficult to test this, the current image has bugs, at least for my computer : - /home/ubuntu/.config is owned by root, so it prevents the window manager, pulseaudio, an so on from starting - Xorg complained one time because it had to run in degraded mode. Finally I do not know if it managed to run in degraded or not when I tested suspend to RAM, but desktop was smooth. I think the problem is definitely between the graphical card, nouveau and Linux : I began to use openshot on this computer, and sometimes this freeze completely the computer (I have to do a hard shutdown). If you have any idea on how to collect and send usable logs concerning these types of crashes, please tell. I will try again in a few weeks the daily-live image to update tracking of this bug. [Bug 1401917] Re: GVFS Samba mounts time out after inactivity
This is interesting to know that gvfs does not do this SMB Echo Request... That is a pity, because gvfs is as simple as the "net use" command on Windows, and uses the Kerberos ticket, so it is a very interesting tool for companies trying to migrate to Ubuntu for desktops. Currently, as a workaround, I did a small bash script that does exactly this (with the ls command) and which I run after user login : #!/bin/bash cd /run/user/$UID/gvfs/ while true do for i in ./smb* ; do if [ -d "$i" ]; then ls $(basename "$i")/ &> /dev/null fi done sleep 120 done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401917 Title: GVFS Samba mounts time out after inactivity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1401917/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1406325] Re: [MacBook7,1] suspend/resume failure
So I tried using kernels from the PPA http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/, with the lasts "subversions" of each kernel version. Here are the things I noticed compared to the current 3.13.0-43 kernel: linux-image-3.14.28-031428-generic, version 3.14.28-031428.201501081937 : - on first boot hanged on splash screen (I did a hard sutdown), second boot was working - resume from suspend is WORKING, but the two first times it increased the sound volume linux-image-3.15.10-031510-generic, version 3.15.10-031510.201408132333 - from this kernel to the last I tried, the graphics on splah screen are no more corrupted (usually the top half of the screen is corrupted) - from this kernel to the last I tried, the Apple logo "flashes" one time when suspending to RAM - resume from suspend is WORKING linux-image-3.16.7-031607-generic, version 3.16.7-031607.201410301735 - resume from suspend is NOT WORKING (the screen gets on briefly before shutting down again but the whole computer does not hang because I can still close the lid to suspend to RAM again) linux-image-3.17.8-031708-generic, 3.17.8-031708.201501081837 - first boot failed with a kernel panic, the next one was working. Here are messages I supposed to be interesting on this kernel panic: .. general protection fault: [#2] SMP .. Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed! - resume from suspend is NOT WORKING (again, the screen gets on briefly before shutting down again but the whole computer does not hang because I can still close the lid to suspend to RAM again) linux-image-3.18.2-031802-generic, 3.18.2-031802.201501082011 - resume from suspend is WORKING linux-image-3.19.0-031900rc3-generic, 3.19.0-031900rc3.201501060135 - resume from suspend is WORKING Thanks again for your time and work, Yvan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1406325 Title: [MacBook7,1] suspend/resume failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1406325/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 669935] Re: Ubuntu Freezing
Hi, I am facing what I suppose to be the same issue on a Dell Optiplex 740, with the same graphic card and almost the same processor (an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+), running the nouveau driver. Xubuntu 14.04 often hangs at boot : it begins with corrupted graphics (very similar of the one attached) on the boot splash followed by a complete freeze of the computer (lightdm never appears and I can't access to TTY). Recently I also tried booting removing the "splash" option in grub (thinking that the problem was comming from the bootsplash), but the computer froze again, so the bootsplash is not the problem. I have never seen the computer freezing atfter lightm has appeared : it only happened on during the boot. I previously tried Debian Jessie on this computer, with Gnome and Cinnamon, wich both causing corrupted graphics and followed by a complete freeze. Debian Jessie with Xfce never froze. The report is here, including system logs and similar screenshot : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=771416 Please apologize if I should instead open another bug report. I would also be glad if I can help : feel free to contact me. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #771416 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=771416 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669935 Title: Ubuntu Freezing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/669935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1369719] Re: xfce4-display-settings -m : Need to set "extended desktop" first to be able to select "mirror screens"
As it seems I'm the only one with this issue, I assume this comes from the graphical card I'm using, wich is not well managed by nouveau driver: I have other problems with it I should report. Moreover, I tried again to reproduce this issue after your answer, but it appears that it works directly sometimes. I don't want to continue bothering about this until my graphical card works properly. Feel free to close this bug. [Bug 1397922] [NEW] After top or bottom snapping, maximized window is difficult to access
Public bug reported: Dear maintainers, On Xubuntu 14.04 (and also Debian Jessie), maximizing a window (double click on the title bar or clicking to the "+" button) after using snapping (dragging to a screen edge) is problematic : the window will sometimes be placed in a way that you can not move it anymore easily. The worst example: My panel is on the bottom. If I drag a window to the bottom of the screen, the window "snaps" and then takes the half bottom of the screen. But then, if I try to maximize this window, the window disappears : only a part of the title bar is visble, hidden behind the panel. The only way I found to make it visible again is to right click on the window's name on the task panel and to choose "Maximize". After that, if I unmaximize the window, it disappears again, so I must drag the maximised window to the middle of the screen f I do not want it maximized anymore. A "less worst example": My panel is on top. If I drag a window to the top of the screen, the window "snaps" and then takes the half top of the screen. The title bar of the window is almost completely hidden under the panel (using Xubuntu 14.04 default appearance). You can move it, but it is difficult (or you have to know how to use the Alt key). In my opinion, in this context the window should return to the middle of the screen, or at least not be allowed to go outside of it. [Bug 1369698] Re: xfce4-display-settings does not show up when connecting new screen
Ok, Same as the other bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1369713) : if it is a rare issue, you are right that we do not need a information message. But for "the second problem" (dual pop-up) : I might be wrong but is it difficult to had a test to see if "xfce4-display-settings -m" is already running ? For the rare users whom the graphical card does not send the appropriate signal, it would look far more as a "polished" interface... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369698 Title: xfce4-display-settings does not show up when connecting new screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1369698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1369698] Re: xfce4-display-settings does not show up when connecting new screen
Hi, Thanks for the fast answer. If it is a common problem, it would be appropriate in my sense to inform the user in the xfce4-display-settings window by adding something like : "does not work with all devices". And the second problem remains : When you start "xfce4-display-settings -m" via command line or keybiard shorcut, it automatically open a other window of "xfce4-display-settings -m" -> this should not happen.
