[Bug 596565] Re: ThinkPad Edge regularly freezes when plugged into mains

2010-06-22 Thread anna_vt
Tried the kernel
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/linux-image-2.6.35-999-generic_2.6.35-999.201006151505_i386.deb
as described in the link posted by Jeremy Foshee.
The wifi did not work with this kernel so I was unable to stay using it to see
if the crashing on mains power occurred (This is my only computer), however I
can say that it displayed a much longer life for the fully charged battery: 6
hours vs 2:30 hours under the current Lucid kernel - this is the same life that
it gives under windows 7.

[Bug 596565] [NEW] ThinkPad Edge regularly freezes when plugged into mains

2010-06-20 Thread anna_vt
Public bug reported:

I have just got a ThinkPad Edge 13 (AMD) and installed Lucid on it. I am
having problems with it just crashing - goes to a blank screen. So far
this has happened frequently when the mains power is connected, but not
when running on battery power.

This problem doesn't always happen (I have sometimes managed a full
charge without Linux crashing) but once it happens it seems to reoccur
pretty quickly after forcing a restart. The laptop seems to be very hot
when this happens so I guess it's probably an overheating problem.

This problem hasn't occured under windows 7 (although I haven't used it
as much as Ubuntu). The laptop also seems to run cooler under windows
and with a longer battery life.

[Bug 518527] [NEW] Poor text rendering in Okular and Document Viewer

2010-02-07 Thread anna_vt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdegraphics

I just opened a pdf in Okular and Document Viewer and it is hard to read the
text. I'm sure when I used to look at this pdf in Jaunty it looked fine with
Okular but now the quality looks very poor since upgrading to Karmic. I
installed Adobe reader to try another program and it looks much better (see
attached screenshots).
I did find similar bugs, but they seemed to be from older distributions

[Bug 376694] Re: Problem logging in to Gnome

2009-05-18 Thread anna_vt
I've been looking at this error log and decided to look at the
/home/anna/.config/gnome-session/saved-session/ folder.
All the files in here were last modified on the day and time I was last running
Ubuntu without any problems. So I have moved them to a different location,
logged out and back in again and I haven't had the error message yet and gnome
things seem to be working. I hope this is a fix, but I don't know the
implications of removing these files we'll have to see.
I have no idea what could have happened to these files to cause this problem
though?

[Bug 376695] Re: Problem logging in to Gnome

2009-05-14 Thread anna_vt

** Attachment added: ".xsession-errors"
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26734120/.xsession-errors

** Description changed:

+ Version: Jaunty
This problem started last Friday when I got home from work.
I tried to log into Gnome as usual but it logged straight out, I tried again
and got the following error message:

Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out
yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you
may be out of disk space. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to
see if you can fix this problem.
  View details (~/.xsession-errors file)

I cannot remember doing anything out of the ordinary or installing
anything during my previous sessions that day.

  I have tried:

*KDE - seems to work fine

*Failsafe Gnome session - same problems as above

*Recovery mode selected from GRUB loader
  -Ran dpkg
  -Ran fsck - no errors
  Problem remains

  *ran apt-get update

*ran Memtest86 from GRUB loader - no errors

If I don't click on the OK on this message I can pretty much use Gnome
(although some things won't work, like terminal and nautilus for
example, but kde versions such as konsole and dolphin will work), but I
don't think this is a long term solution for me.

  Will attach .xsession-errors file

[Bug 376695] [NEW] Problem logging in to Gnome

2009-05-14 Thread anna_vt
Public bug reported:

Version: Jaunty

Sorry - you better delete this. I got home and tried to repeat this
behaviour and cannot - even on the same file.
Thanks for your trouble though

[Bug 321582] [NEW] Epiphany browser crashes (closes) when a link is clicked

2009-01-26 Thread anna_vt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When I click on a link (for example if I search for launchpad.net on google
and click the link), the page doesn't load and Epiphany closes.
Upon restarting Epiphany I get the crash recovery dialogue box.

n.b. I am also having other problems with Epiphany as reported in bug

As far as I'm aware I haven't (is it something I could have done by
accident? - if so how can I check?). I don't need to use a proxy to
connect to the internet (using Firefox or Konqorer).

I am still having the original problem.

Re: [Bug 316459] Re: epiphany browser does not go to specified web page

2009-01-12 Thread anna_vt
Run Epiphany
type web address in address bar, eg www.launchpad.net
press return (or click the go button)
nothing happens (webpage opens fine in firefox)

I just tried typing launchpad in the google search page (which is the
homepage) to see if I could open it that way, but Epiphay crashed when I
clicked on the link in the search results. When restarting I get the
crash recovery dialogue. Repeated and crashed again.

In the end I moved my .mozilla folder to a new location and started
firefox and closed it. I then copied the contents of my old profile
into the new one that was created and that seemed to work fine.

Thanks for your help,

I found this on the thunderbird-webmail forum

and downloaded and installed the newer hotmail extension from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/thunderbird-webmail-extension/files

hopefully this will stop it crashing

Hi,
I've disabled the add-ons on thunderbird, and have been running(starting
from command line) for a while now without it closing. Last night the
webmail/hotmail stopped working - thunderbird said it could not connect
to local host - so maybe this is causing thunderbird to close, but the
other 5 non webmail email accounts I have in there are fine when
thunderbird stays open. I cannot install the the dbgsym as I there
isn't one for the version of thunderbird that I am using:

thunderbird-dbgsym:
  Depends: thunderbird (=2.0.0.12+nobinonly-0ubuntu1) but
2.0.0.14+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 is to be installed

so it won't install - is there a way to force it?

Cheers
Anna
