[Bug 1322831] Re: xdot fails to start - error is: ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: '32.25'

2014-05-25 Thread another_sam
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1317688 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317688

fwiw for package maintainers and as workaround for users, I did
sudo apt-get remove xdot
to remove the ubuntu-package-based xdot, an then
git clone https://github.com/jrfonseca/xdot.py
and then
sudo ln -s /usr/local/xdot/xdot.py/xdot.py /usr/local/bin/xdot
to make it accessible as just xdot
and now it works.

I wish ubuntu could prompt updates for my cloned git repos for me...
which is an off-topic...

Cheers

[Bug 1015766] [NEW] Although unchecked, amule keeps being started automatically

2012-06-20 Thread another_sam
Public bug reported:

Last week I just moved from Ubuntu 12.04 to Lubuntu with the commands at
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purelubuntu
and I found amule starting automatically after login.

Then I went to Desktop Session Settings, saw amule checked, and
unchecked it. But it keeps being started automatically.

So now I have amule starting automatically although its checkbox at
Desktop Session Settings appears already unchecked.

[Bug 1005234] [NEW] Mouse blocked in drag and drop mode

2012-05-27 Thread another_sam
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 12.04, during this month, (May 2012) I've started to suffer
apparently random mouse blockages. More specifically, after some minutes
of using the system and without apparent cause, the mouse icon gets
stuck at drag and drop mode. From that point on, I am unable to select
nor click on anything, and I have to log out to get it working back
properly.

I'd like to provide some additional relevant information, but I don't
know which could be it. Please tell me which command could I run.

Incidentally, this week I posted a comment in a similar already existent
bug here at launchpad, but I am not able to find it again, so I am
creating a new one. Please mark this as duplicate if you find it
convenient.

Thank you!

I saw this
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#Completely_disabling_Touchpad
In my case the touchpad is the id=13. Next time I will try
xinput set-prop 13 Device Enabled 0
xinput set-prop 13 Device Enabled 1
to see if it works.

[Bug 669159] Re: Font size in Netbeans does not match GTK theme

Same problem with Ubuntu 12.04, OpenJDK 7, and NetBeans 7.1.2.

Changing system font to DejaVu Sans with MyUnity fixes menu font.

Changing NetBeans' default font to DejaVu Sans Mono, fixes code font.

Also want to note that, I did not have this problem just after
installation of NetBeans.

[Bug 846743] Re: upgrade to oneiric failed

2011-09-18 Thread another_sam
Same problem, and
sudo apt-get install python-pyatspi2
worked for me as well.

This bug would be highly important because is preventing people from
upgrading to Oneiric.

I found disappointing that the upgrade was not fully unattended. An
msttcorefonts dialog appeared near the beginning (not near enough to
catch me in front of the screen), and also an network configuration
dialog appeared several minutes after the first one. But this would be a
comment for another bug.

2011-06-10 Thread another_sam
Reading
http://www.enricozini.org/sw/apt-xapian-index/
I think it is totally impertinent to have this process wildly riding the CPU.

If this is pretending to keep Ubuntu Software Center running properly, I
think this is not the right approach. What happened to the good ol' apt-
get update?

Please don't plague Ubuntu with this kind of indexers. The only unasked
task I want my PC to do is the update-manager looking for updates, once
each 24h, during 30 seconds.

[Bug 669559] [NEW] Ubuntu Software Center shows 2 Adobe Flash Plugin entries

2010-11-01 Thread another_sam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

Ubuntu Software Center shows 2 Adobe Flash Plugin entries, when only one
of them is the Adobe Flash Plugin.

Ubuntu 10.10
Ubuntu Software Center 3.0.5

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Ubuntu Software Center
2. Type in [adobe flash]

What I expected to happen:
- To get 1 result for Adobe Flash Player

What happened instead:
- I got two results:
- - One with the actual Adobe Flash Player (Adobe Flash plugin).
- - One named Adobe Flash Plugin 10, which was the one I clicked to, which
lead me to an apparently useless dialog about authentication or something.

Since the system has to provide value to the user, I understand that
this second entry named Adobe Flash Plugin 10 should be removed from
the search results of Ubuntu Software Center.

[Bug 127444] Re: Drag'n'drop multiple files into playlist, (or open multiple files) add it not in the good/alphabetical order...

2010-10-16 Thread another_sam
Ubuntu 10.10, Totem 2.32.0.

I'd say the bug itself is that the order in which Totem adds multiple
files to the list is *unknown*; it shouldn't be.

Steps to reproduce /on my machine/:
1. Open a folder with Nautilus with a dozen audio files, ordered by name
2. Select all files
3. Drag n drop them to Totem's Playlist

What should happen:
Files are added to the playlist ordered by name.

What happens instead:
Files are added to the playlist not ordered by name.

Please confirm whether you can reproduce or not. If not, I'll analyze my
case more thoroughly.

12 Mbps internet connection downloading a 4.4 GB iso.

After totof's steps I have regular speed drops each 100 seconds aprox,
but in effect no connection drops.

Speed takes aprox 30 seconds to achieve 12Mbps, so there is aprox 70
seconds of full speed before each drop.

On syslog I can see a periodic round of Failed to get channel info for

freeze (even ctrl+alt+f1..6 not working) short after 14:32:16. Perhaps
I'll try mainline 2.6.34rc1 deb.

The transfer of the previous test finished successfully. It probably
finished around 17:30 - 18:00. I attach now the log from 16:03 to 18:00.
FYI is the same until 20:00 when I arrived home.

Now I restarted and started a new test with the same kernel and the same
file from 20:39:53. So far 600 MB have been transferred with this
log:

to transfer an 8 GB file from the suspected machine to locally wired
server (rsync, nfs, anything will do). At best, the transfer will stall
at around 5GB, when you then realize the wireless connection no longer
works. To recover from that situation there are several approaches (from
reselecting the given connection on NetworkManager to a full restart),
that you will have to resort according to the phase of the moon or the
spin of the electrons around.

I am testing this. 800 MB uploaded to the server so far.

I have System Log Viewer opened. When wifi die I'll check for new

uff. 5100. I thought only we the 2006ers with a 3945ABG had problems.

current version of ubuntu not playing well with the current google
suggestion's most popular wireless card is, I think too, a critical
bug.

if only we could perform some acknowledged test. ... some script
gathering wifi activity or errors ... atop our driver in debug mode
perhaps ... sometimes I loss wifi is a symptom hard to explain but
probably more hard to diagnose.

with 9.10 I suffer less this effect than with 9.04. 9.04 lost
connection each 5 minutes. 9.10 instead, once per week. I turn off the
PC each night.

On Fri, Mar 26, 2010 at 11:33 PM, narnie signupli...@gmail.com wrote:
I don't think there is anything to do. I've never read in the popular
linux mags about these wireless issues with Ubuntu.

Perhaps if we all wrote to Linux Format, Linux Journal, Linux Mag, etc
and one of them pics it up and gives these wireless issues voice,
 something can happen.

On my current machine (Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100), it
got to where it dropped once a day. Tried posting the prob on some
forums. No takers. Did a fresh install, and it seems to have works so
far except for much more rare occasions.

Wireless is a must-have to keep Ubuntu popular. These are critical (for
 us and Ubuntu's reputation) bugs.

[Bug 398280] Re: experiencing frequent netbeans crashing

2009-11-30 Thread another_sam
I also have frequent crashes with NetBeans. In several, at first glance
random, moments. I just found a consistent way to reproduce a crash.
This is what I explain next.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open NetBeans
2. Right-click on a project in the project browser
3. Click Properties, a windows titled Project Properties will appear
4. Resize that window during a couple a couple of seconds ()

What should happen: The Project Properties window gets resized.

What happens now: NetBeans crashes. If I start it from console (simply typing
netbeans), on crashing some output appears:
The program 'unknown' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 18972 error_code 8 request_code 140 minor_code 4)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

2009-11-08 Thread another_sam
Public bug reported:

Today, while trying to install Kubuntu 9.10 on a machine at an Install
Party, we found that the installer produced several Unable to read
block ... messages.

I just realized that this message has no mean to the user because it was
not enough to allow him to infer that probably either the CD was damaged
or the optical drive was damaged.

I think the message should be something like The CD is damaged or the
CD player is damaged.

I don't know to which package this feature belongs to.
