have gotten another 128MB stick so I now have 256MB on my lappy and XUBUNTU works much better. Great for upping up the minimum and recommended specification. [Bug 161962] Re: Xubuntu works terrible on a PIII 1GHz 128MB ram
Tha main problem with XUBUNTU is that on the default install U can not do anything on the desktop. Because it is simply to sluggish to even open up Start Menu and this is without any other open problems. So XUBUNTU is NOT for low memory machines. Even a friend of mine tried XUBUNTU on a 128MB RAM. [Bug 161962] Xubuntu works terrible on a PIII 1GHz 128MB ram
Public bug reported: I installed Xubuntu Gutsy with alternative CD. And after an hour long installation I was finally at the desktop. But I couldn't do anything since the HDD was constantly working. Just to open the Start Menu I had to wait for a minute and the mouse was jerky. So then I reinstalled Xubuntu by using the Server option and after the base was installed I just install XFCE, XORG, FIREFOX, ABIWORD, GNUMERIC with APTITUDE. Now Xubuntu works better than before. No problem. But even thou I have installed those packages BRASERO still will not burn CDsDVDs. When I choose to burn, the dialog just sits there at 'getting size' and it does nothing. Even after half an hour of waiting. And the only way to terminate it is to do a 'killall'. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: brasero I installed the BRASERO version that comes with FEISTY thru SYNAPTIC. [Bug 104009] Re: [feisty beta] linux-image 2.6.20-14 halts during boot
Did some fidling around and came to this conclusion. The old kernel .13 still used the old ATA/ATAPI driver AMD and nVidia IDE support (BLK_DEV_AMD74XX). And thus it mounts the disk on /dev/hda?. But this new kernel .14 uses the new Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers AMD/NVidia PATA support (PATA_AMD). And it mounts the disks as /dev/sda?. So in order to mount drives in this kernel U must use UUID or /dev/sda? in fstab instead of /dev/hda?. This info should be posted somewhere since am guessing many ppl with PATA will not understand why they cant mount the drives as /dev/hda? anymore which they have been doing for the past ?? many years. I also attached the new working fstab and menu.lst. ** Attachment added: fstab http://librarian.launchpad.net/7235149/fstab -- [feisty beta] linux-image 2.6.20-14 halts during boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 104009] Re: [feisty beta] linux-image 2.6.20-14 halts during boot
This is what I did: 1.I booted the working kernel linux-image-2.6.20-13 into safe mode and unmounted the EXT3 partition. Then I ran 'e2fsck -f /dev/hda4' which found zero errors. 2.I rebooted the machine into linux-image-2.6.20-14-generic SAFE MODE. And this are the errors I could gather. Just installed the BETA FEISTY version on my lappy. To my big surprise the ETH0 is not being recognised. Which worked flawlesly in Edgy and Dapper. This lappy uses the R8169 chispet for its NIC and when doing lsmod the 'r8169' module is loaded but nothing is using it. 'ifup eth0' reports that ETH0 is unknown. But 'ifconfig up eth0' brings the ethernet online. But the problem is that I must do this everytime I restart Feisty in order to have internet conectivity. I already tried inserting this into '/etc/network/interface' 'auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp' and then restarting the network but I get an error that ETH0 does not exist. -- realtek gigabit ethernet not recognised on feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/79626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 101916] profile settings are not retained between UbuntuWindows
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I am sharing a Firefox profile on a FAT32 partition between Windows XP and LINUX! The problems are the following: 1. I boot into UBUNTU Feisty and launch Firefox where AUTOSCROOLING OPTION is TICKED in FF 'preferences'. Then I close FF and reboot to WIndows XP where I also launch Firefox and the 'autoscrooling option' is still 'ticked. But when I reboot back to UBUNTU from Windows and open FF the 'autoscrooling option' gets unticked. I've tried it with a clean profile an also on a friends computer. He has Win2k3 and UBUNTU DAPPER-GNOME and the same problem ocures when he was sharing the profile on a FAT32 partition. [Bug 52344] Re: Unable to apt-get 'gnome-core-devel'
I believe I understand why this is happening: Lets say for an example that U are using XGL from the QUINNS' repo! Such as I was. And so by installing XGL from it, U are upgrading a lot of other libraries, that your system depends on them. All is is good until some packages or applications won't work with newer libraries, like GNOME-CORE-DEVEL. These packages require the older LIBRARIES to work but XGL requires the new ones! See the dillema? ## Can anyone confirm/deny this? Cos I've never quite understood why is it a problem installing newer LIBS and adding other REPOS until this explanation came into my mind? Well if this explanation is true than am gonna post it on UBUNTUFORUMS.ORG since am sure that a lot of fellow UBUNTUERs have been wondering the same thing. -- Unable to apt-get 'gnome-core-devel' https://launchpad.net/bugs/52344 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Good day! Sorry for the long reply but I was on holidays! Here's the output: ### [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get install libeel2-dev Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. [Bug 58364] I can't record a thing
Public bug reported: I've Hercules Fortissimo II record sound from my MIC. Microphone works as when I choose microphone as the recording source from alsamixer I can hear sound thru the loudspears. Problem is that I can't record this sound. Gnome-sound-recorder just hangs on recording or produces a file of 4 bytes. Arecord also hangs and produces the same kind of 4b file even when going to INIT 1. Needless to say nor SKYPE or WENGO works. So then I installed the SOX package and tried to record with 'REC' which comes with the package and with it it works. It clearly records everything I say into the MIC. So afterwards I compiled latest ALSA-utils-libs-drivers 1.0.12, thinking there must be a problem with ALSA since it works with SOX but it still doesnt work. In alsamixer I've set the following 3 channels to capture: MIC, CAPTURE, and ADC and of course I had to unmute and set levels. As per this guide: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=cs46xx ## lspci -v: :01:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01) Subsystem: Hercules: Unknown device a010 Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 32, IRQ 201 Memory at e610 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Memory at e600 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2 ## Ubuntu Dapper with all the updates Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'alsa'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- I can't record a thing https://launchpad.net/bugs/58364 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 45563] Re: Build of fglrx module fails
I 2 have tried the official UBUNTU kernel and also the VANILAs and on none of the kernel this works. And also lots of ppl report the same bahaviour in UBUNTUFORUMS.ORG. So the only workarround is to use FGLRX from ATI.COM and instruct FGLRXs installer to spit out FGLRX-KERNEL-SOURCE. And then U can compile it easily with module-assistant.
