Re: [Bug 235347] Re: networking fails on resume from suspend

2009-01-20 Thread ddumanis
No, works fine now. I think the problem was with the upgrade process
from Hardy to Ibex. Not sure what I did to solve, it's been so
long--probably reinstalling ACPI and Network-Manager.

[Bug 271283] Re: OpenOffice.org subpixel font rendering broken with new cairo

Here's an attachment showing the yellowish blur that fonts get in

[Bug 226279] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM

2008-06-13 Thread ddumanis
Yes, -16 works fine--in fact, I'm using it as my main kernel! I edited
grub/menu.lst to default to -16 since I can't get network joy from any
kernel later than that.

So, if it is a bug in network-manager, it has to do with how network-
manager interacts with the various kernels--as I get good wired and
wireless networking after suspend with kernel -16.

Any further info/fixes much appreciated.

Purged and reinstalled network-manager and network-manager-gnome (?).
Now all is well, suspend works great with kernel -19. THANK YOU to
Martin for correctly pegging this as a network-manager issue.

Or, more likely, an upgrade issue, since network-manager wasn't properly
upgrade when going from gutsy to hardy... but that's a different story.

Now unsubscribing from this bug.

[Bug 235347] [NEW] networking fails on resume from suspend

2008-05-27 Thread ddumanis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.24-17-386-di

When resuming from suspend, networking (network-manager with wired
network) fails intermittently--but often (1 out of 2 times). Only
happens with latest kernel update 2.6.24-17.

Annoying enough to be considered broken--I have to boot from the
previous kernel version 2.6.24-16. It still happens with this version
but much less frequently (1 out of 10 times).

This may also be a bug in network-manager (?) in dbus (?), in ACPI (?),
etc.

This ONLY happens with the latest kernel update, 2.6.24-17.

(a) Rhythmbox is the default Gnome music manager/player, and
(b) That is has specific options for Internet Radio, i.e., it superficially
appears to be .pls capable.

Like other posters, I can play a .pls by pasting in the URL (an
inconvenient and unsatisfactory method)--but not via specifying a
mimetype in Firefox nor by specifying rhythmbox in the preferences of
Streamtuner.

[Bug 152809] [gutsy beta] laptop screen is black on resume from suspend (ati card)

2007-10-14 Thread ddumanis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fglrx-driver

No resume from suspend on a fresh install of gutsy beta with an ATI
Radeon Mobility 9000 card on a D600 Dell Latitude laptop.

This bug is widely publicized in the blogosphere, though I couldn't find
one here in launchpad. So, here it is. This may be a showstopper bug for
new Ubuntu users who expect laptops to have working suspend.

[Bug 150732] Re: [gutsy] suspend worked once, but does no more

2007-10-13 Thread ddumanis
Confirmed on a Dell Latitude D600. Screen turns black on resume; system
requires a hard boot to use again. IMHO this will make Ubuntu look
pretty bad to new users.

[Bug 150777] Re: in gutsy, screen locks on lid close even when gconf option is turned off

2007-10-10 Thread ddumanis
Discovered a SECOND set of totally redundant screenlock-related
checkboxes that are in the lock folder of gnome-power-manager section
of gconf--not at the root level of the gnome-power-manager section of
gconf. The ones in the lock folder actually work!

So, this is really a USER INTERFACE BUG--screenlock should be toggleable
from the GUI of power manager, or the GUI of screensaver, or both--not
(a) only from gconf and (b) from two different sets of checkboxes, only
one of which work.

2007-10-10 Thread ddumanis
I can confirm this bug in 2.0.0.6 and it has existed since at least
Dapper for me. This is a major user interface glitch. Either drag n drop
attachments should work properly, or you should not be able to drag the
attachment at all.

[Bug 151162] drag n drop attachments is broken

2007-10-09 Thread ddumanis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Dragging and dropping an attachment produces a draggable icon which,
when released to the desktop, disappears. So, it looks like drag n drop
is going to work... but it doesn't. Attachments must be saved in other
ways (right-click and using open/save dialog box, etc.).

Attachments should either not turn into draggable icons, or else drag
'n' drop attachments should actually work.

[Bug 130511] Re: Gusty updates broke my wireless connectivity

2007-10-08 Thread ddumanis
Same problem here--wireless on my Dell Latitude D600 was working great
with my BCM4309 (via the firmware cutter) in Feisty--now broken in Gutsy
when using the restricted driver manager's autoinstaller of BCM43xx-
fwcutter and automatic firmware extractor. No wireless networks show up
in network-manager.

I upgraded from Feisty and do NOT want to do a fresh install.
Ideas/solutions welcome--I'm clearly not the only one with this problem!

P.S. when I slide a NetGear (atheros) PC card into the PC card slot, all
wireless networks show up normally in network-manager, so this is
definitely a problem with the BCM4309 card.

Do nothing won't help, but blank screen will. Try it. (You might
have to close and open your lid to get the backlight to come on, but at
least it won't lock black permanently.)

[Bug 103537] rosetta stone won't install via WINE in Feisty

2007-04-05 Thread ddumanis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

I get a Java-related error and crash when I try to install Rosetta Stone
for Windows via WINE.

Instances of successful Rosetta Stone/WINE installs are common on the

exactly):

[Bug 67700] Doesn't scan for wireless networks

Public bug reported:
