[Bug 1041221] Re: Network Manager gobbles CPU very frequently restarting dnsmasq in IPv6 networks

2012-08-31 Thread dgf
In my initial description of this bug, I said that cpu load without
running dnsmasq is 20% to 30% in IPv6 networks. Let be me clear, because
you changed the summary. This cpu load is network manager alone on a
Intel core i7 2.7GHz dual core cpu. In my world it should be ~0% all the
time.

[Bug 1041221] [NEW] Network Manager consumes a lot of CPU in IPv6 networks

2012-08-24 Thread dgf
Public bug reported:

Hi,

this may be related to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/958519

I lost my IPv6 some time ago, after my router was broken. I have now my
IPv6 connection running again and to set the mininum time between router
advertisements to 10s to be not affected too strong from the mentioned
bug. The fix to this bug was simply suppressing error messages.

But I was now curius what is happening at the network of my university,
which got (at least some parts) IPv6. Here network manager eats up to
80% cpu, because it is restarting dnsmasq every second. If I disable
dnsmasq in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf the cpu load drops to
20% to 30%. (syslog attached)

You should fix this, because this eats the battery of my laptop and
ubuntu 12.04 will be used a couple of years in which IPv6 will get more
and more deployed.

I was wrong with the debian bug in the description. This one seems to be
a different one. Please do something about it, because this one causes a
lot of disc writes into syslog and a high cpu-usage.

[Bug 502357] Re: Missing APN when using the mobile internet provider "AldtiTalk/MedionMobile"

2010-01-03 Thread dgf
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager

  Hi,

this german prepaid provider for mobile internet provides at least two
  ways to use the internet.

So it would be useful to provide these two APNs in Network Manager and say
what they do. From my view the following applies:
tagesflat.eplus.de: flatrate price 2€ duration 24 hours (this is missing in
network manager)
internet.eplus.de: you pay for every MB of traffic, iirc 24¢/MB
AldiTalk has a third mode, which is a 30 day flatrate, but it is not very
easy to activate, and if acitvated you need the APN internet.eplus.de. I take
http://www.eee-pc.de/board/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7034#p56505 as a source for the
monthly flatrate and translate it into englisch:
"the flatrate for 30 days has to be booked explicitly

the easiest way is to enter the USSD code into the mobile phone and send
  it

*121*004# book 30 days internet flatrate
*122# cancel of the booked option
- *123# status request which option if booked
+ *123# status request which option is booked

and enter the apn internet.eplus.de at the stick

you could also enter this via a terminal programm"

In the documentation it is said, that if you book a 24h flatrate, you
will not be able to book the monthly flatrate until the 24h are over.
But this seems only to fit to the windows software which is shipped with
  the modem.

I hope here is someone with more details on the prices of AldiTalk,
since I am a bit confused about it and the missing feature of network
manager to receive sms makes it even harder. With sms I could easily
  see, which option is booked.

  mfg dgf

update: I found more details about the 30 days flatrate and updated this bug
report
update2: this is also a source describing how to activate the 30 days flatrate
  http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?p=1353903
+ update3: the reason for the cancel of the booked option code is, that the 30
days flatrate will automatically be extended to the next 30 days, if enough
money is on the sim card.

2009-09-21 Thread dgf
As it seems I wasn't able to read the logs correctly. The usb flash
drives work correctly, they are just not automounted by devicekit-disks.
The only problem that remains is that my two sdcard-reader doesn't seem
to work. I testet them now with jaunty and windows xp and the sd-card-
reader seem to fail.

[Bug 433935] [NEW] [9.10 regression] partitions of external media aren't recognized

2009-09-21 Thread dgf
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I tried to mount 3 external flash media: one sd-card and two usb flash
drives. When plugging them in the kernel does not recognize their
partitions. Only /dev/sdb is created but not /dev/sdbX. If you look in
the dmesg log, you see that the last usb flash drive has 2GB of space
and two partitions, which have as filesystem ext2 and vfat. The previous
sd-card and flash drive have vfat as filesystem and one partition.

It would be great if this can be fixed, since it annoys me a lot and
maybe other people, too.

[Bug 414012] Re: [9.10 regression] HDA power_save=10

2009-08-15 Thread dgf
** Description changed:

I use an Sony Vaio SZ2M-B, which is a 13" subnotebook. As you may think I
hear a "pop" due to power saving, which doesn't annoy me. What annoys me is
that through the acpi-driver my notebook has the capability to power down the
hole audio device, which saves even MORE power and this works without a
hearable noise. In Jaunty I had scripts in /etc/acpi/ac.d and battery.d which
did power off my audio, when I was on battery, but these directories seem to be
obsoleted in Karmic.
The Idea of powering on the chip by demand is even better, than these
scripts, which annoyed me sometimes. So if it is possible to check if the
driver sony_laptop is loaded and to check if the file
/sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/audiopower exists you could on some notebooks
even more power saving.
One can turn off the audio power by executing "echo 0 >
/sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/audiopower" and turn on by echoing 1 instead
of 0.
This has only one disadvantage: turning on and off takes time, which is
noticeable, and which might be too much for simple notifications in e.g.
pidgin. I estimate the delay to 0.5s.

I don't expect you to implement this, it is just a suggestion. I would
be happy if you could just tell me, which file to modify for powering my
  audiochip totally on demand.

btw. sony_laptop offers powering off more devices, e.g. wwan, bluetooth
  and cd power.
+
+ UPDATE: what I forgot to say. powering off the cd is sincy jaunty
+ dangerous, because I needed to unload the driver, which is now build
+ into the kernel.

[Bug 201644] [NEW] G-P-M is unable to dim display anymore

2008-03-12 Thread dgf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

hi,

Laptop = Sony Vaio SZ2m-b (Centrino Duo)

until one or two weeks ago my laptop display was darkened when I
unplugged ac and enlightened when I plugged it in again. This is not the
case anymore and now I think it is the time to report the bug.

When I now plug ac in or out there is still this popup showing, that GPM
wants to dim, but after (un)plugging I have to manually dim the display
using Fn+F5 or Fn+F6.

Please note that due to having a small system I have not installed
ubuntu-desktop, but acpi-support which should be enough. I have
blacklistet sonypi, because it produces only errors in dmesg and GPM
doesn't dim even with it inserted. I have only the successor sony-laptop
loaded, and I am quite confused why Ubuntu wants to load both of them.

Will GPM eventually use xbacklight? Besides the Fn-Keys this tool works
well, too.

[Bug 197064] Re: Hibernate fails on Centrino-laptop

2008-03-12 Thread dgf
I applied the patch from http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/23/269 to the
current linux-source-2.6.24 and the laptop shuts down, when it has
finished saving the image to the disk. However mouse and keyboard do not
work. I don't know if it came through this patch or I misconfigured the
kernel. Let's see what the next kernel update will bring.

[Bug 197064] Re: Hibernate fails on Centrino-laptop

2008-03-01 Thread dgf
This is the log after resuming.
I have the feeling it crashes directly before it wants to shut down. After
saving the ram to disk all keyboard leds flash shortly up and then the laptop
fans are louder and pressing keys, e.g. capslock, returns no results.

[Bug 197064] [NEW] Hibernate fails on Centrino-laptop

2008-02-29 Thread dgf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

Hi,
I am using a Sony Vaio SZ2m-B Laptop, which has a Intel Core Duo, GMA950 and
ipw3945 wifi. With linux-image-2.6.24-8-generic hibernate worked always und
standby often.
But with linux-image-2.6.24-10-generic this luck is gone. Especially with
hibernate the laptop is never able to shut down. There apppears only one
message on the screen:
[ xxx.xx ] drm_sysfs_suspend

On the hdd led I can see that the laptop is saving the ram to disk and
when it becomes dark, I can power off the laptop by pressing the
powerbutton for 5 seconds. After it resumes successfully from this
image.

syslog, dmesg, ... are only saying that the laptop is send into
hibernate or that it is starting from hibernate. no error messages. :(

[Bug 87916] Re: [Feisty] fn + f12 for hibernating doesn't do anything on sony vaio with g-p-m

last updates seem to have this fixed. when I tried to get the keycode my
laptop hibernated completely. also resuming worked. stand-by (closing
the lid) and resuming works, too.

[Bug 87916] [Feisty] fn + f12 for hibernating doesn't do anything on sony vaio with g-p-m

2007-02-25 Thread dgf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

hi,
I'm using Ubuntu Feisty with latest updates on a Sony Vaio SZ2m-b. When
pressing fn + f12 nothing happens with gnome-power-manager running. I had to
install the package hibernate, which is in universe, to get it working.
(Although resuming doen't work properly, it only works on ttys, but this is
another bug.)

I thought it would be useful to know because the discription of
gnome-power-manager reads:
"gnome-power-manager manages battery status, events,
 powermanagement settings and actions like:
  * Suspend to RAM
  * Suspend to Disk (Hibernate)
  * Shutdown
  * Blank screen"

[Bug 58716] Re: Automatic collection rebuilds make system completely unusable for minutes or hours without warning

2007-02-04 Thread dgf
yes I am using sqlite. I just added the specific folder with the music, which
after removing it from the database amarok worked safe again. And now it works,
but it could be that I probably just have deleted the file , which causes the
problem, or recreating my hole amarok-profile did it.
There is no problem for me anymore :)

[Bug 63956] Re: My Radeon9500 runs with 8 Pixelpipelines, instead of 4

2007-01-26 Thread dgf
I never flashed the bios of my radeon9500. iirc with a flashed bios I
wouldn't need a hacked driver for windows, because the original driver
from ati/amd would also think it's at least a radeon9500pro which has 8
pixel pipelines

2006-10-12 Thread dgf
I removed all my music from my collection in amarok, so that it is empty
and the collection-update should be really fast. But the issue is still
there and even with no files to scan the collection-update eats all my
memory. When I close amarok it will become a zombie ( ) for a
few seconds.

2006-10-12 Thread dgf
When Amarok rebuilds its collection it eats all my memory and my system
becomes unusuable. I didn't wait a half hour to see if it will recover,
I pressed after a few minutes the reset button. Here is a output from
top just close before killing amarok, the memory usage of the
amarokcollection programm will constantly go higher and higher.

[Bug 63956] My Radeon9500 runs with 8 Pixelpipelines, instead of 4

2006-10-04 Thread dgf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-ati

Hi,
when I bought this card it was cheap and easy to turn it into a Radeon9700 pro
with 8 pixelpipelines with a hacked driver in Windows. The memory bandwith was
also boosted from 128bit to 256bit. So you got a very good card to play games
for less than 300€ when it was published.
It's nice that the free radeon driver does this, too, but the extra
pixelpipelines are annoying when there is at least one defective. You won't
notice this in a shooter, but with beryl it just sucks.
Here is a picture: http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/1184/pixelfehlersd8.png

It would be nice if there would be xorg.conf option to turn these
pixelpipelines on and off if I wish.
