[Bug 411542] Re: [upstream] OpenOffice.org 3.1 Impress Very Slow due to AA

2010-04-23 Thread drieteenmeeuw
When I experienced this behaviour some weeks ago in OOo 3.2.0 (in Fedora
12), I got rid of the slow responses by renaming the /user folder in
~/.openoffice.org/3/ (e.g. to user.old). However the behaviour is back
now and I am not sure if doing the same renaming thing is working this
time.

2009-05-05 Thread drieteenmeeuw
It happened again today after starting up my laptop after a few days of
rest (Tuesday, after a Bank Holiday Monday). I strongly suspect either
evince or cups is the culprit as it happened while I gave the command to
print a pdf. After a reboot printing etc. went fine again.

[Bug 368007] [NEW] Weekly crashes in Intrepid Ibex: Monday mood?

2009-04-27 Thread drieteenmeeuw
Public bug reported:

A strange feature here, where it seems my fully updated Ubuntu 8.10
laptop happens to crash mostly on Mondays. Seriously. Other days (Tue-
Fri) it's fine. On previous Mondays I thought it might have to do with
problems in waking up after suspending, but it also happens after a
clean shutdown, total inactivity (of the laptop) over the weekend, and a
clean startup on Monday.

The has sufficient memory (2 GB), is not using excessive memory or cpu,
nor is it getting hot when this happens. The laptop just stalls
unexpectedly, mostly when I do things like checking mail (on Evolution,
kmail or Thunderbird) and/or printing stuff (evince). All I can do is a
hard reboot, after which everything is fine again. Until the next
Monday.

Linux 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 20:57:48 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
Toshiba Satellite A110 using external monitor and keyboard

Any ideas?

[Bug 239231] Re: cannot name workspaces on hardy 8.04

2009-03-16 Thread drieteenmeeuw
I can't set names when compiz is active, and can when visual effects set
to none. Then however when setting visual effects again, I only see the
name of the first workspace ('mail'), even when switching to, or working
in, other workspaces. Hovering over the other workspaces at bottom-right
of the screen only results in a pop-up saying that the current workspace
is 'mail' (even if it isn't).

[Bug 303769] Re: Ubuntu "forgets” my key board layout sometimes

2009-02-17 Thread drieteenmeeuw
I have a similar problem in that Ubuntu (8.10 up-to-date) sometimes forgets the
layout of my external/USB keyboard (UK layout while the laptop's keyboard is
Dutch). This happens after say a night of idleness (don't know if this is
related to idleness though).
As a workaround I can get back the UK layout through adding/removing any odd
keyboard layout in System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Layouts -> Add ->
choose say Afghanistan -> Add.

Seems like desirable/expected behaviour to me. If you want to save a file under
another name, choose "save as...", ctrl+shift+s. If not, ctrl+s will save your
file under the name you've assigned to it earlier.
This is system-wide behaviour, and even cross-OS (e.g., Windows behaves the
same)

[Bug 317849] [NEW] Evolution open url changes window size browser

2009-01-16 Thread drieteenmeeuw
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When clicking on an url/link in a mail message in Evolution, so as to
open the link in a Firefox tab, it causes the Firefox window to become
vertically smaller (too small for my taste). This only happens with
compiz enabled.

Using up-to-date Ubuntu 8.10, Evolution 2.24.2-0ubuntu1, Firefox 3.0.5
+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1, compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1, on a laptop with
external monitor (not using the laptop monitor).

Workaround: in System > Preferences > Preferred Applications > Internet,
select Firefox as browser.

[Bug 60901] Re: Slow startup - "Fetching summary information for new messages"

2008-08-25 Thread drieteenmeeuw
My evolution wouldn't start up either today (after booting up my pc),
staying busy = being unresponsive for a long time without using much cpu
or memory. Even killall evolution and starting evolution didn't work. I
did ps aux | grep evolution and killed all additional processes which
had to do with evolution (I had thought killall would do that). Then
evolution started without a problem.

[Bug 180022] no network after transferring files with ssh

2008-01-02 Thread drieteenmeeuw
Public bug reported:

Often, when trying to transfer large files from my laptop (Gutsy) to my desktop
(Dapper) using ssh over the wired network at my work, when a transfer size of
c. 8 MB has been reached, the transfer stops and the connection with the outer
world (Internet, ping, ssh, desktop) is gone. The laptop does not respond to
pinging from the desktop. I know of no way to get the connection going again,
other than the Windows-solution; a re-start. Sudo dhclient or sudo
/etc/init.d/networking restart does not work.
1) What is going on? 2) How could I get my network back again without rebooting?

The comment on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase/+bug/69168/comments/5
worked for me in Gutsy. Should be easier to (find this) fix imo

[Bug 17717] Re: Could provide a option when the last update happend

2007-10-11 Thread drieteenmeeuw
Would indeed be nice. Perhaps the user could be told when the last
update (or check for updates) was performed, if he/she moves his/her
mouse over the update-manager icon, through a little drop-box/tooltip?
Now it says "Update manager Show and install available updates".
Perhaps date/time could be added there.
