[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)
I have the same problem. It is not related to screen saver nor to VNC. It is an old bug and has been around for a long time. It was originally reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings- daemon/+bug/624477 on 2010-08-26 and **INCORRECTLY** closed on 2010-09-01 by Karl Lattimer (karl-qdh). Please give that person a reprimand. I have noticed that Ubuntu routinely closes bugs without fixing them. That does not make the bug go away, it just makes people hate Ubuntu. I do not have a /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0 I only have /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-2.0 and /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon I'm running gnome 2.32.1 build date 4/14/2011 I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 I have all current updates. I'm ALWAYS running Firefox. I have used several different versions since first noticing this problem. Currently, I'm using 13.04 I always have lots of tabs open. I tend to keep my system running and I stay logged in for weeks at a time. I have seen this bug for a LONG time (many months, at the least) when gnome-settings-daemon starts taking 100% CPU, it does so for a long time (10-15 minutes), and then sometimes, stops monopolizing the CPU and g-s-d usage drops down to 0%. It later can go back to using 100% I will try deleting the /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-2.0/keyboard.gnome-settings-plugin and /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/keyboard.gnome-settings-plugin -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969359 Title: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/969359/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 900120] [NEW] System hangs
Public bug reported: My operating system frequently hangs. This happens once or twice a day. It often happens when I have nothing running other than top (to try to see what might be causing it to hang). * memtest reports no errors * the machine is not hot * When I rebooted, there was nothing in the syslog for an hour preceding the hang. * I'm running 11.04 on a Compaq Presario desktop * It also hangs when no one is logged in, so .xsession-errors in my home directory probably won't mean anything, but here it is on my most recent hand when I was logged in: -- dangulo@ubuntu-desktop:~$ tail .xsession-errors ** (gnome-session:1741): DEBUG: GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus method=NameOwnerChanged ** (gnome-session:1741): DEBUG: GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus method=NameOwnerChanged ** (gnome-volume-control-applet:1864): DEBUG: Updating sink: index=0 name='alsa_output.pci-_00_14.2.analog-stereo' description='Internal Audio Analog Stereo' map='front-left,front-right' ** (gnome-volume-control-applet:1864): DEBUG: Updating source: index=0 name='alsa_output.pci-_00_14.2.analog-stereo.monitor' description='Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo' ** (gnome-volume-control-applet:1864): DEBUG: Updating sink: index=0 name='alsa_output.pci-_00_14.2.analog-stereo' description='Internal Audio Analog Stereo' map='front-left,front-right' ** (gnome-session:1741): DEBUG: GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus method=NameOwnerChanged ** (gnome-session:1741): DEBUG: GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus method=NameOwnerChanged ** (gnome-session:1741): DEBUG: GsmDBusClient: obj_path=/org/freedesktop/DBus interface=org.freedesktop.DBus method=NameOwnerChanged ** (gnome-volume-control-applet:1864): DEBUG: Updating sink: index=0 name='alsa_output.pci-_00_14.2.analog-stereo' description='Internal Audio Analog Stereo' map='front-left,front-right' ** (gnome-volume-control-applet:1864): DEBUG: Updating source: index=0 name='alsa_output.pci-_00_14.2.analog-stereo.monitor' description='Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo' * Tail of file /var/log/Xorg.0.log before the hang has this. [Bug 824212] Re: libre office doesn't save docx files
Wouldn't you know! Yesterday when I was doing this, ANYTHING I saved to docx format had all formatting lost (Heading 1, heading 3, numbered lists, centering, etc.). Today, NOTHING is lost. I even take the same file that I recreated and saved as rtf, and resave it today as docx, and it if fine. I try to follow all the same steps I did yesterday, but cannot reproduce. One thing I did yesterday, was that I edited for a very long time. I hypothesize that one of two thing that I haven't yet tried caused the problem: 1. Perhaps editing for a long time and having the document auto-saved in a different format??? 2. Perhaps I suspended my ubuntu session??? I will try to reproduce with small reproducible steps and post a document. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/824212 Title: libre office doesn't save docx files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/824212/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 798915] Re: orca magnifier unusable
Is your response actually in the launchpad forum/thread? Will my response automatically be there too? The two cursors may not be a bug, but I do think that what I reported is a bug, because I cannot use either cursor to do any selections. I need a way to set the settings of orca without orca being turned on. On Fri, Jun 24, 2011 at 10:57 AM, Alan Jenkins alan.christopher.jenk...@googlemail.com wrote: The two cursors thing is completely intentional. It's difficult to guess whether you're being affected by a bug, or if you're just struggling with the controls... The smaller, normal-looking cursor is the system pointer. It works just as if there was no magnifier, and you were using the screen normally. This can be confusing, because there _is_ a magnifier :-). But it is also useful. It means you can see when the cursor is at the top of the screen / the bottom of the screen / the exact middle, etc. The larger cursor is the one that actually works. When you move it over a control (e.g. in the settings dialog), you should see the control highlight in the normal way, and it should respond to mouse clicks as normal. If you can get it working, but the system pointer is more confusing than helpful for you, you can disable the system pointer by clicking hide system pointer in the preferences dialog. One bug I noticed on my system is that the window titles don't seem to be drawn at all; I just see blackness. And the cursor that actually works looks horrible; it's very hard to see because it's all dots. It's as if pixels in the original cursor have been kept the same size and just spread out a bit. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/798915 Title: orca magnifier unusable Status in “gnome-orca” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-orca When I start orca magnifier, it comes up full screen, there are two cursors, and it is impossible to determine how to set the settings. [Bug 801695] [NEW] Synaptic Package Manager goes into infinite loop
Public bug reported: After a fresh reboot and starting no other processes, I started the Synaptic Package Manager, selected Settings - Preferences, and changed the setting for General-System Upgrade from Smart Upgrade to always ask. The system monitor then showed 100% CPU usage, but when I look at the processes in System Monitor, I don't see more than about 25% CPU usage total from the processes displayed. When I use top instead, I see all the CPU time, with process synaptic taking between 50% and 66% of the CPu time. In the System Monitor, process at-spi-registryd takes between 3% and 20% of CPU time. System Monitor says that at-spi- registryd process is waiting channel as poll_schedule_timeout. I guess top doesn't show the state of the synaptic process. In any case, CPU time stays at 100% usage for at least half an hour, and the synaptic package manager never returns to a usable state. I have to terminate the process. [Bug 669461] [NEW] wireless hard block set for HP Pavilion
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I had wireless up and running for several months on a new laptop (HP Pavilion Entertainment PC). Suddenly, a week ago, the wireless comes up disabled, and the enable wireless option in the NetworkManager Applet 0,8 is greyed out. I ran rfkill list (I found that while doing a google search for this problem), and hard block says yes. Removing battery and power and hitting the boot-up button did not reset this. Neither did sudo rfkill unblock 0 where rfkill list shows identifier 0 as 0: phy0: Wireless LAN I upgraded to 10.10, but it didn't help. Why is Ubuntu (10.04 LTS and 10.10) doing this? How can I get the wireless re-enabled? Also, as long as we're talking about this, normally at log on, the wireless is enabled. I often disable it through the NetworkManager Applet while I'm working on a wired connection. If I suspend or hibernate, when I come back, the wireless in enabled again. Should I submit a bug report? Thanks for any help anyone can give. [Bug 639729] [NEW] Eclipse crashes
Public bug reported: Several times, Eclipse has crashed on me. I'm not really doing anything (one time, I was just restarting it). Most times, I'm just moving the cursor around. I can't really reproduce this, but it happens several times per week (with me using it probably 40+ hours per week). I don't know why the crash report told me to report it here, but I'm following the crash log instructions. I will try to attach the crash log - I do not see it on this page. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Eclipse crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/639729 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult
This is VERY annoying and makes use of Ubuntu EXTREMELY difficult. Please fix this. three comments: 1. you are wrong (Sigfried) when you say that you don't think that that most users have any problem with this. We do. Most users just don't know how to report problems. 2. it is disingenuous when you try to blame themes. We end users _do_not_care_ where the problem is. We just want it fixed. 3. In 2005, the original reporter said it had been an issue for years, and it is still not fixed FIVE YEARS LATER. -- Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
