[Bug 1160533] Re: The error occured short (1-2 Min.) after booting, I did not run libreoffice at all.
This is a small packaging problem. To get rid of the error you can safely remove libreoffice-emailmerge with dpkg (it is a transitional package, which means that it contains nothing, as it is now integrated in libreoffice-common package). After this, reinstall libreoffice-common with synaptic or apt-get, everything should run fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160533 Title: The error occured short (1-2 Min.) after booting, I did not run libreoffice at all. [Bug 315489] Re: Kernel oops loading Agere firmware (orinoco module)
Hi, This is just a guess, but according to this mailing list post: http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0903.0/5.html the firmware files downloaded from gitweb are getting corrupted due to a bug in gitweb. "The correct agere_sta_fw.bin is 65046 bytes long. The corrupted agere_sta_fw.bin is 89729 bytes long. There is a way to recode the original binary with GNU recode: recode utf8..iso8859-1 agere_sta_fw.bin" I tried downloading that firmware, fixing it with recode, and placing it in /lib/firmware on my jaunty alpha 5 installation with a lucent/orinoco silver card. It seems to have worked - dmesg now reports that the card can do WPA, but I haven't had a chance to test the WPA yet. On another note, if this works, it would be nice if there was an ubuntu package with it. It takes some hunting to figure out that you have to download the firmware yourself :) -- Kernel oops loading Agere firmware (orinoco module) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315489 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 198521] Re: Hardy regression: video incorrect size; cursor paints blocks [i815]
Hi, I have this problem too. Sony PCG-FX340 laptop with Intel i815 1024x767 display, but 800x600 is used by default and I can't set it any higher. Previous versions of ubuntu and debian, before the new xorg autodetection changes, corectly picked 1024x768. To be precise, I'm running debian testing, but I pretty sure it's the same problem. I have the problem with all versions of the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver I've tried: unggnu's in the previous post (http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/intel/hardy-i386/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.3.1-1ubuntu1~bwh3_i386.deb) ,debian testing's, and debain unstable's, and have made sure xorg.conf is regenerated (there's nothing in it regarding resolutions.) I've attached my Xorg log. Has someone reported it upstream to xorg yet? ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15552169/Xorg.0.log -- Hardy regression: video incorrect size; cursor paints blocks [i815] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 68654] Re: Default Resolution on high quality CRT monitors is too high
I find this annoying as well. My monitor is a 17 inch samsung SyncMaster 700NF, and Ubuntu (up to Feisty Herd 3) starts at [EMAIL PROTECTED] What it currently does (at least with my monitor) is pick the highest possible resolution at 60hz. A decent algorithm for CRT's would be to choose the highest standard resolution the monitor supports at 85hz; and I can't see any cases in which this would work worse than the current way (assuming it can tell the difference between CRT's and LCD's) Even a 15" CRT monitor I had ten years ago or so could do [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks for any help :) -- Default Resolution on high quality CRT monitors is too high https://launchpad.net/bugs/68654 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, you should file a separate bug report, as the problem you are having is different (this one doesn't have a cursor in the corner) and this bug seems to have been fixed in feisty. I tried the Herd 3 CD, and the bug is fixed for me as well! (8x agp, and no freeze. no additional tweaks needed.) Re: [Bug 67487] Re: [regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup
Quash: so the new package fixes it for you? Did you try it with the bios speed set to 8x, dri enabled, and no Option "AGPMode" "8" in xorg.conf? (which would have gaurnteed a freeze before, right) Just curious because my preliminary test of the new package didn't fix it, but of course it could have just been my error. Thanks. Re: [Bug 67487] Re: [regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup
It doesn't seem to work for me. I upgraded my edgy to feisty, (I now have xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.2-0ubuntu6) and I still get the same symptoms (freeze when agp speed set to 8x in BIOS and DRI enabled in xorg.conf, no freeze if DRI disabled or AGP speed set to auto in BIOS). I'll try again with the Herd 3 cd, in case there's something else in my xorg.conf affecting things. In the bug report posted on freedekstop: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9284 Michel Dänzer mentioned that he committed a fix for the AGP problem but it was too invasive to use in the 6.6 branch. If that's the case, and the Herd3 cd doesn't work either, maybe the only solution in the interim is to have DRI disabled in the xorg.conf by default for ATI cards. [Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup
Monika, I'm curious if you would also be able to get it working if, when editing xorg.conf, you leave the driver set to 'ati' but just disable dri. (well, the setting of 'glx' didn't matter for me) Or, if by chance your bios AGP speed is forced to 8x, try setting it to auto or 4x? (- then the live cd might work with no need to adjust xorg.conf) I know you're probably sick of trying more 'fixes', but I was curious because your symptoms were exactly the same as mine (as far as I can see), and either of the two tweaks I mentioned work for me and are nicer than using vesa. Good luck everyone :) -- [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup https://launchpad.net/bugs/67487 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup
My computer was giving the very same symptoms as in the original post; couldn't start the Live CD because it would completely freeze with a black screen after the boot-splash part, just before starting X (it locked up such that even pressing Caps Lock wouldn't toggle the keyboard light!) This is an AthlonXP 2500+, Abit NF7-S, AGP Radeon 9600xt, 512ram. Ubuntu 6.10. It's using the "ati" driver. In other linux distros I discovered I could get in to X by disabling dri in xorg.conf. (or switching to the vesa driver, which was unacceptably slow, etc..) However, today I've finally found another workaround which allowed me to start the livecd: I changed the AGP speed in my BIOS from 8x to 4x. (Other BIOS settings like fast writes have no effect for me) So for the first time, Ubuntu is running with dri on and the 'ati' driver on my system =). While it's still only a workaround, perhaps it will help narrow down a problem in the radeon driver when dri is combined with AGP 8x? Anyway, I encourage people who still can't start the livecd to try this; as I didn't see it mentioned before. -- [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup https://launchpad.net/bugs/67487 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
