Same problem on suspend with nv and vesa ... Turning off POST_VIDEO do nothing better, it freeze on resume ... and for hibernate nothing better (because of the non 3d support of the others drivers) for hibernate i think that it is an other problem than the problem of suspend (nvidia driver issue or compiz). When i hibernate (sorry) the resume process end with a black screen with my mouse (i can move it) and I can go to a real console mode (ctrl+alt+F1) the console mode work and i can stop gdm and reload it, and it rework well again ... But if compiz is unactivated it work well without any other changes ...
