[Bug 92924] Re: gdm/xorg problem
Guess this can be closed. While trying to remove whatever caused this behaviour I actually put myself into a dependency hell I cannot fix myself without putting very much time into it - and I won't have that time coming week. So I decided to just reinstall the image. -- gdm/xorg problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/92924 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 92924] Re: gdm/xorg problem
I now completely removed xserver, gdm, gnome and kde, cleaned apt cache and removed /etc/X11 and /etc/gdm as well as /usr/share/X11 and /usr/share/gdm. After reinstalling those packages, I'm still having the same problem - and I'm really near to giving up now as there's just no hint on whats not working out - at least for me. I can see gdm reporting that everything is fine in syslog/daemon.log, but apart from that there's still no error visible no matter where I look :| -- gdm/xorg problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/92924 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 92924] Re: gdm/xorg problem
I tried replacing gdm with kdm. It didn't really change much, but kdm shows the following error within the font failures: ../../src/xcb_lock.c:28: _XCBUnlockDisplay: Assertion `xcb_get_request_sent(dpy->xcb->connection) == dpy->request' failed. I've had problems with libxcb-xlib before so I installed source and build all deb files belonging to it and overwrote the existing with the new files. No effect though. I then 'apt-get remove xserver-xorg' and 'apt-get autoremove' and installed xserver-xorg again afterwards. I had to reinstall nvidia-glx as well. Once done, same effect: gdm will end up with a blanc black screen. -- gdm/xorg problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/92924 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 92924] Re: gdm/xorg problem
As I stated before, the login screen doesn't come up. I still added a new user and used that one to sudo to a root shell and restart gdm (I don't see how that would help, but who knows :-) ). It however didn't change. Basically, the login screen is replaced by some black screen with some X mouse pointer - so no way to login as who ever. Any idea which log file I could check to find a hint? -- gdm/xorg problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/92924 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 92924] gdm/xorg problem
Public bug reported: On Feisty, after latest update, gdm for some reason won't bring up the login screen. gdm will launch normally. NVidia logo is displayed (or not with nv driver), then screen turns black, still in graphic mode and nothing further happens although I have a mouse pointer that's movable (nothing to click though). I doubt it's an issue with nvidia and it doesn't look like an error with xorg (startx will start pure X without errors). There's no error in Xorg.log, no error in gdm logs, no error in messages or anywhere else I looked (a hint for where to look might really be helpful). I already reinstalled gnome, ubuntu desktop, gdm, the nvidia driver and restricted kernel modules. I also switched to nv driver and back. I tried to switch to old kernel which didn't seem to change anything (I didn't see any errors as well). I don't have any clue where to look for errors and what I could do to change this behavior - any suggestions welcome. [Bug 86103] Re: azureus-> java: xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed.
I too encounter the above problems. There's not much material available online, but the problem seems to be bound to the version of xlib/x11 in feisty (though it might not be a bug in xlib). I'd consider this to be of really high importance - there's quite a lot of java gui programs out there and chances are that most of them won't work (at least if they somehow make use of awt/swing) -- azureus-> java: xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed. https://launchpad.net/bugs/86103 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
