[Bug 2069495] Re: Netplan generator causes systemd, apt and unlock hangs on 24.04

2024-06-21 Thread Ilya Loginov
I tried to investigate the problem with long boot for several days. Even
tried to reinstall system.

Only after enabling debug logs in systemd I found out that it was
`/usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/netplan`. systemd-analyze told it
was NetworkManager.

So I removed link `/usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/netplan` and my
boot time reduced for almost 2mins.

There was nothing interesting in `/etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml`
(with 0400 access rights, that was strange):
```
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager
```

[Bug 2063511] [NEW] Ubuntu 24.04 can't run HoMM3 HotA (Wine 9.0)

2024-04-25 Thread Ilya Kasnacheev
Public bug reported:

~/Games/Homm3HotA% wine HD_Launcher
0128:err:module:loader_init "_hd3_.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
0128:err:module:loader_init Initializing dlls for
L"Z:\\home\\ilyak\\Games\\Homm3HotA\\h3hota HD.exe" failed, status c005
% wine --version
wine-9.0 (Ubuntu 9.0~repack-4build3)

That's the gist of it. Launcher runs but game won't play with the error
above. Non-HD h3hota.exe will also GPF immediately. What's surprising
that every other Wine version that I've tried (via playonlinux) will of
course run HotA just fine (it's an old, mature project) and previous
Ubuntu 23.10 also ran HotA just fine.

% ~/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/9.0/bin/wine HD_Launcher
# Runs fine

Perhaps I don't have winemono installed (that's the first thing
playonlinux does), but it was working before the dist-upgrade and there
is no apparent way to install it. Maybe there is any other kind of wine
misconfiguration, but provided that I've just done a dist upgrade from
23.10, and it was running fine there, I consider that a regression.

HoMM3 HotA is obtainable at https://h3hota.com/en/download for the
curious.

[Bug 1972983] Re: File dialog in snap firefox does not have keyboard focus

2022-05-11 Thread Ilya Bobyr
I've observed a similar issue, since the Ubuntu 22.04 upgrade.
Though, I can not confirm 100% that the issue happened exactly on the updated
date.
It might have been caused by one of the Firefox upgrades. I am currently on
version 100.

For me, the focus in the save dialog constantly switches to the file list area.
It makes it almost impossible to type the file name.
When I type one character, this character is inserted into the file name edit
field.
But then the focus changes to the file list area. And the next character I
type is used as a file list filter command.

[Bug 1841826] Re: Going to sleep instead of logging in while lid closed & external display

2022-03-07 Thread Shadrin Ilya
The problem is that laptop go to suspend during boot because lid is
closed. The behavior is actually highly depends on the hardware you use.
It works for me with Lenovo Thinkpad P52 + Lenovo Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3
Gen2 dock station.

Here is my full logind.conf:

#NAutoVTs=6
#ReserveVT=6
#KillUserProcesses=no
#KillOnlyUsers=
#KillExcludeUsers=root
#InhibitDelayMaxSec=5
#HandlePowerKey=poweroff
#HandleSuspendKey=suspend
#HandleHibernateKey=hibernate
HandleLidSwitch=lock
HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=lock
HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore
#PowerKeyIgnoreInhibited=no
#SuspendKeyIgnoreInhibited=no
#HibernateKeyIgnoreInhibited=no
#LidSwitchIgnoreInhibited=yes
#HoldoffTimeoutSec=30s
#IdleAction=ignore
#IdleActionSec=30min
#RuntimeDirectorySize=10%
#RemoveIPC=yes
#InhibitorsMax=8192
#SessionsMax=8192

Here is the ways i found to deal with that:

1) Play with logind.conf params
(https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/logind.conf.html -
manual for configuration)

2) Use gnome-tweaks to disable suspend on lid closed (it actually
creates ~/.config/autostart/ignore-lid-switch-tweak.desktop to achieve
this) - does nothing for me

3) There is an option (which i use in combination with logind.conf) in
Lenovo BIOS to use external docked monitor as main screen during boot -
check if there is similar option in your BIOS.

Please, let us know if you will find a solution for your hardware

This might be FIXED by setting HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore in

/etc/systemd/logind.conf

Although i would still appreciate if this use case will be better
implemented on OS level (performance wise)

2022-02-02 Thread Ilya Leoshkevich
I would reapply the gcc patch. It should not affect most userspace
binaries - for example, it did not produce any changes whatsoever in
SPEC suite. Even if there are some binaries that are built with kernel-
like options and get extra relocations as a result, ld.so processes such
relocations correctly, so nothing bad should happen.

2022-01-19 Thread Ilya Leoshkevich
A quick update: zfs.ko gets quite a lot of relocations with the gcc
patch, and the total size of PLT entries generated by kernel's
apply_rela() exceeds 64k. Each PLT entry contains a short jump to an
expoline thunk located at the end of the PLT array, which is out of
range for the first PLT entries. When expolines are off (nobp=1), this
problem does not occur. I'm currently looking into a kernel fix.

Oh, my bad - I remember checking that I had the right compiler version,
and even verifying that the patch is in by compiling some samples, but I
guess then I ran a full upgrade after adding -proposed.

Unfortunately, downgrading the toolchain did not help - both manually
built and dkms-built modules still load just fine for me.

Thanks, Frank! I managed to install the jammy kernel, but the zfs module
still loads successfully. Here is some information from the manually
built module:

$ strings module/zfs/zfs.ko|grep -e vermagic= -e GCC -e ^version=|sort -u

vermagic=5.15.0-16-generic SMP mod_unload modversions
version=2.1.99-678_gda9c6c033

We could probably try to hunt down the difference between our
environments, but I'm wondering if you could just share your VM image
with me?

2022-01-13 Thread Ilya Leoshkevich
I don't seem to be able to reproduce this. What I tried so far:

1. Installed a clean VM using an image from http://ftp.uni-
kl.de/pub/linux/ubuntu-dvd/ubuntu-server/daily-live/pending/, ran apt
install zfs-dkms - zfs.ko initialization successful.

2. Built zfs master myself and loaded the modules manually - zfs.ko
initialization is successful.

3. Installed v5.15 kernel from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.15/ and ran apt install zfs-dkms - zfs.ko initialization
successful.

4. Built zfs master myself again (for v5.15 this time) and loaded the
modules manually - zfs.ko initialization is successful.

Am I missing something?

One thing is that zfs.ko from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~arighi/zfs/ has
vermagic=5.15.0-15-generic, whereas mine has
vermagic=5.15.0-051500-generic. Is there another v5.15 kernel build that
I can try? The default repos seem to have only v5.13:

$ apt search linux-image-generic
...
linux-image-generic/jammy,now 5.13.0.19.30 s390x [installed,automatic]

[Bug 1929533] [NEW] [needs-packaging] jpegqs (jpeg-quantsmooth)

2021-05-25 Thread Ilya Kurdyukov
Public bug reported:

JPEG artifacts removal tool.

This program tries to recover the lost precision of DCT coefficients
based on a quantization table from a JPEG image. The result is saved
as a JPEG image with quantization set to 1 (like a JPEG saved at 100%
quality).

URL: https://github.com/ilyakurdyukov/jpeg-quantsmooth
License: LGPL-2.1
Notes: depends on libjpeg and openmp, use "make SIMD=select app" to build with
runtime SIMD selector for x86(_64).

Already packaged in ALT Linux, using rpmbuild specfile. It might be helpful:
http://git.altlinux.org/gears/j/jpegqs.git?a=blob;f=.gear/jpegqs.spec

Reports about spelling and grammar issues in readme/manual are welcome.

[Bug 1758512] Re: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in.

2020-11-25 Thread Ilya w495 Nikitin
I can reproduce it but only in:
* GNOME Shell 3.36.4
* KDE Plasma Shell 5.18.5

But in XFCE, LXDE, LXQT, MATE and others ++ works fine
for me.

At first, I've tried to use `sudo chvt 2` for switching form KDE on tty1 to Raw
Console on tty2. After switching to tty2 ++ works as in early
days.
It doesn't depends on video drivers or kernel flags and etc. For my laptop I've
got the same for nvidia:455.38 and for i915, with modeset and with nomodset,
with GFX grub mode and without.

But I guess, this is not a system or hardware problem, because there are no any
troubles with small environments. So after some research I found, that you can
use `sudo kbd_mode`.

So for me `sudo kbd_mode -af` works fine without reboot.

* Laptop: DellXps 15 9570 4K Touch
* Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04
* Kernel Version: 5.8.0-7630-generic #32~1605108853~20.04~8bcf10e~dev-Ubuntu
(from system76)
* OS Type: 64-bit
* Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz
* Memory: 15,4 Gib

Unfortunately I cannot find `DontVTSwitch` option in xorg.conf-like all-over
the system, as was said for example here:
*
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/34158/rebinding-disabling-ctrlaltf-virtual-terminal-console-switching

I think it'll be better solution.

The solution of Fredrik Öhrström (oehrstroem) also sounds great.

[Bug 1877185] Re: maxima-emacs returns LaTeX error

2020-10-27 Thread Ilya G. Ryabinkin
I have resolve the bug, but testing and releasing is necessary.

In a nutshell, the issue is caused by a clash of macro definitions
between `breqn` and `amsmath`.

According to http://mirror.physik-pool.tu-
berlin.de/pub/CTAN/macros/latex/contrib/breqn/breqn.pdf, Sec. 2 (package
loading), a certain order of loading packages in a document's preamble
is necessary:

```
The breqn package automatically loads amsmath to avoid loading order conflicts.
It also automatically loads flexisym and mathstyle, but in some cases these
packages need to be loaded separately.
The canonical order for package loading is:
3\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage{flexisym}
\usepackage{breqn}
```

That is, LaTeX template inside `imaxima.el` must be updated; patch is
attached.

A caveat though: there are TWO places where LaTeX template is defined
(see the patch), the bug is fixed by the second; I have introduced the
changes in the first part, but it must be tested.

[Bug 1873585] Re: namespace error if /opt not exists

2020-10-02 Thread Ilya Maximets
Confirming the issue.
After upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04.1 danded failed to start with following error:

systemd[774]: danted.service: Failed to set up mount namespacing:
/run/systemd/unit-root/opt: No such file or directory
systemd[774]: danted.service: Failed at step NAMESPACE spawning /bin/sh: No
such file or directory

systemd tries to setup mount namespace for non-existent /opt directory
and fails.

Replacing '/opt' with '-/opt' inside 'InaccessibleDirectories' option fixes the
issue.
e.g.

/lib/systemd/system/danted.service:
InaccessibleDirectories=/boot /home /media /mnt -/opt /root

However, I had one more issue with the service file configuration. dante was
configured
to log into /var/log/sockd.log, so I also had to remove '/var' from the
'ReadOnlyDirectories'
to make it work as expected.

[Bug 1792934] Re: symlink loop detected in path 'usr/share/doc/module-init-tools/changelog.Debian.gz'

2020-02-17 Thread Ilya
I inspected perl code in /usr/bin/debsums...

The logic around catchink symlink loop is a bit flawed. Its in a
function resolve_path() and it is only called from method .check() which
intends to verify if the file can be opened. Since its goal is to find
any bad files, symlink loop should be reported as any other file open
errors, and the tool should not die, even if there is a legitimate
symlink loop.

So I changed perl code - instead of 'die ...' -> 'return "";', and after
'my $resolved = resolve_path(...) added an if block:

 my $resolved = resolve_path($path,$pack);
+if ($resolved eq "") {
+warn "$self: symlink loop - can't open $pack file $root/$path
($@)\n";
+return 2;
+}

With that change debsums does not fail on the symlink loops and reports
them with all other problem files.

BTW:
openoffice.org-calc package did not have symlink loop, but it linked to a file
from uno-libs3 package, which did have a loop, reinstalling uno-libs3 package
fixed/removed the loop.

2020-02-17 Thread Ilya
It is debsums bug. Uninstalling module-init-tools lets debsums pass
first error, but it throws same error on another package:

```
debsums: Error: symlink loop detected in path
'usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-calc/changelog.Debian.gz'. Please file a bug
again openoffice.org-calc.
```

[Bug 1856501] Re: xgettext cannot deal with jsx self-closing tags

2020-01-08 Thread Ilya Lukin
It's important because a lot of web-developers are using React[1]
(*.jsx), but can't using gettext for localization.

Testcase:
xgettext --from-code=utf-8 --language=JavaScript filename.jsx

Fix already done, see first message.

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2019-10-13 Thread Ilya Brik via ubuntu-bugs
I wonder how do you , guys, declare the bug as invalid while the issue is
exists and it's still relevant.
You could at least call it duplicate with a reference to another issue, but
INVALID it is not.
To the point:
This issue is relevant for me on a freshly installed Kubuntu 19.04.
I tried to use the workaround proposed by @ronny, but it doesn't look as a good
idea:

sudo apt remove isc-dhcp-client

is a problem in it.

The commit 5113d730a1ee26bb13cbe38fdc10a7ebe7baf3cd could not be tested.
An error occurred: "fatal: reference is not a tree:

There is no problem in the ed14acd316bae2d3365f71ea9941490a71d3adf2

[Bug 1813937] [NEW] How to get back my favorite dialog after screenshot?

2019-01-30 Thread Ilya
Public bug reported:

In earlier versions of that package I just pressed Shift+PrScr, select
an area and see a dialog after it whether I want to save it or not.

Now Shift+PrScr saves screenshot implicitly and I have to press
Shift+Alt+PrScr

Could you provide me a solution (Not gnome-screenshot -a -i because it has
extra dialog after executing it)?
If it's as designed, please tell me latest version with older behaviour I could
hold from updates

[Bug 1813907] [NEW] Kubuntu freezes due to "unable to handle kernel NULL pointer" when moving to Screen Energy Saving

2019-01-30 Thread Ilya Brik via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

This issue manifested today after upgrading the kernel from 4.15.0-43 to
4.15.0-44.
Reproduction scenario:

Laptop Dell Inc. Latitude E7470/0T6HHJ, BIOS 1.6.3 06/15/2016 is
connected to Dock Station which is connected to 2 external displays.
Laptop's display is closed.

Configure Energy Saving as following:
Dim screen: 1 min
Screen Energy Saving: 1 min

Lock the display (Ctrl-Alt-L) and wait for 3-4 minutes - the displays
turn off.

Move a mouse / click on a keyboard

Expected result:
Displays turn on

Actual result:
Displays remain off.

After looking into the journalctl --system's output I found the error
below observed exactly when the Screen Energy Saving turned on:

[Bug 1812234] [NEW] [Suggestion] add default keyboard shortcut shift+prtscn to run xfce-screenshooter -r to capture a region

2019-01-17 Thread Ilya Sheershoff
Public bug reported:

There's already a decent xfce4-screenshooter for fast screenshots
sharing and already two keyboard shortcuts for it in the default
settings, namely:

xfce4-screenshooter -f | PrtScn
xfce4-screenshooter -w | Alt+PrtScn

There's an often scenario (I suppose, haven't done a real research) when
one needs to capture a screenshot of a selected region of a screen. And
xfce4-screenshooter already has that option: xfce4-screenshooter -r.

And adding it as

xfce4-screenshooter -r | Shift+PrtScn

worked like a bliss.

Why not add this as a default setting into the package?

Concerning the selection of Shift+PrtScn keys for the shortcut:

1. It's intuitive - first thing I did - I tried this combination - other
screenshotting tools I used have similar shortcuts for this behavior
2. It's not in conflict with any other keyboard shortcut
3. People recommend this shortcut on askubuntu:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/170163/how-do-i-set-a-shortcut-to-screenshot-a-selected-area

Thank you.

Required section, just in case:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

xubuntu-default-settings:
  Installed: 18.04.6
  Candidate: 18.04.6
  Version table:
 *** 18.04.6 500

500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expect: Shift+PrtScn on a default installation runs screenshooter in "capture
region" mode
What happened instead: nothing

[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2018-09-09 Thread Ilya Sheershoff
Have same RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller and
r8169 driver.

$ lspci -knn | grep Eth -A3
01:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [10ec:8168] (rev 15)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. [MSI] RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [1462:7b33]
Kernel driver in use: r8169
Kernel modules: r8169

See the difference in controller and driver?

I'm online for an hour since:

try connecting via wifi and
1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo apt-get install r8168-dkms
 - to install the r8168 kernel driver (suppressing the r8169 driver that came
default with the kernel)
3. Reboot the PC
4. Enroll the MOK

[Bug 1780781] [NEW] Installed mercurial version doesn't match the declared one

2018-07-09 Thread Ilya Brik via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

After installing and staring TortoiseHg I faced the following error
message:

#!python
** Mercurial version (4.6.2).  TortoiseHg version (4.5.2)
** Command: --nofork
** CWD: /home/ilya
** Encoding: UTF-8
** Extensions loaded:
** Python version: 2.7.15rc1 (default, Apr 15 2018, 21:51:34) [GCC 7.3.0]
** System: Linux akaars-kubuntu 4.15.0-24-generic #26-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 13
08:44:47 UTC 2018 x86_64
** Qt-5.9.5 PyQt-5.10.1 QScintilla-2.10.2

This version of TortoiseHg requires Mercurial version 4.4.n to 4.5.n, but
found 4.6.2

After checking it several times I noticed that while the installed
mercurial version seems to be 4.5.3:

Get:1 http://il.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 mercurial amd64
4.5.3-1ubuntu2 [189 kB]

it's version is actually 4.6.2:

/usr/bin/hg --version
Mercurial Distributed SCM (version 4.6.2)
(see https://mercurial-scm.org for more information)

[Bug 1769946] Re: package grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8 fails to install and reboots the system

2018-05-09 Thread Ilya Ig. Petrov
I've managed to finish the grub-efi-amd64-signed installation and set the boot
order in efibootmgr by specifying Linux kernel parameter
efi_no_storage_paranoia.
For some reason setting the boot order frozen my system on the first run but
worked fine on the second run.

[Bug 1769946] Re: package grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8 fails to install and reboots the system

2018-05-09 Thread Ilya Ig. Petrov
I've caught the "No space left on device" error:

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

Installing for x86_64-efi platform.

Also I get similar space errors when invoking `sudo efibootmgr -v -o 2`
or other efibootmgr commands. I have no dump* files in the efivars
folder:

[Bug 1769946] [NEW] package grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8 fails to install and reboots the system

2018-05-08 Thread Ilya Ig. Petrov
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Lubuntu)
Package: grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8

1) The system is Lubuntu 18.04. During its install the installer (ubiquity)
rebooted too soon without showing any success message. After reboot a new
record appeared in my rEFInd that contains word "vmlinuz" which boots
Lubuntu just fine.
2) The installer of KDE Neon (around 03.2018) reboots too early in the same
vein.
3) After booting into the installed system and trying to `apt install`ing
a new package dpkg asks:
```
dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.
```.
4) Running `sudo dpkg --configure -a --debug=100` produces almost no
output and reboots the system.

$ cat stderr.log
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
$ cat stdout.log
Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8) ...

5) tail /var/log/dpkg

2018-05-08 20:57:39 startup packages configure
2018-05-08 20:57:39 configure grub-efi-amd64-signed:amd64 1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8

2018-05-08 20:57:39 status half-configured grub-efi-amd64-signed:amd64
1.93+2.02-2ubuntu8

6) A few days before it was producing more output, specifically the
sentence:

"Could not prepare Boot variable: No space left on device"

7)

$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev1,5G 0  1,5G   0% /dev
tmpfs   300M  1,3M  299M   1% /run

8) Laptop is Samsung R730 from 2010 (NP-R730-JS05RU), I guess it has EFI, not
UEFI.
Support page (RU): http://www.samsung.com/ru/support/model/NP-R730-JS05RU

9) BIOS is the latest 07JD:
