[Bug 867440] [NEW] no HDMI on hybrid graphics

2011-10-04 Thread jarrod
Public bug reported:

I am following instructions as per
http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com/2011/08/problems-with-hdmi-in-hybrid-graphics.html

My laptop model is Asus U31SD with NVIDIA GeForce 420m (optimus) and intel
i5-2410 CPU.
ironhide version 1.0-1~nattyubuntu37
I am using 11.04 64 bit, I followed the instructions found at
http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com, installation went well and I am able
to use my discrete graphics via optirun. However if I plug in a HDMI monitor,
the laptops screen will flash but the monitor is not detected at all by ubuntu
(gnome monitor applet or xrandr)
I am able to detect the HDMI monitor by running "optirun nvidia-settings -c
:8" which detects it as monitor-model (DFP-0 on GPU-0). However, the only
available configuration is "separate X screen" which requires an X restart and
overwriting xorg.conf, which will not work with ironhide. The nvidia utility is
also unable to detect either the laptop screen or another monitor connected via
VGA
connecting a monitor by VGA works fine.

[Bug 1687637] Re: Kubuntu installer crashes when checking format box

2018-10-19 Thread jarrod
sadly it turns out im not allowed to have another OS since its a work pc
so i found a way to get around it since ubuntu doesen't want to fix it

Boot live session > open "kde partition manager"
format the drive/s you wish to use and leave them unformatted
you can now add the partitions in the installer and the drive/s are already
formatted

by default it will check the box to format when you add the new
partition which does not cause a problem/crash.

Re: [Bug 610312] Re: network manager cannot connect WPA2 TTLS PAP

2010-08-27 Thread jarrod
I feel that the bug is in the kernel module rt2860sta as installing the
latest drivers from Ralink seems to improve the situation (the wireless is
able to connect every time but drops out after a minute)
Thanks. Jarrod.

[Bug 610312] [NEW] network manager cannot connect WPA2 TTLS PAP

2010-07-26 Thread jarrod
Public bug reported:

At my university campus, the wireless internet is secured with WPA2 and TTLS
PAP for logging in using student credentials.
my laptop running lucid 10.04 (an EEEPC 1000H with Ralink RT2860 wireless card)
will sometimes connect after resuming from standby, but otherwise just
continuously ask for credentials after trying to connect for a while.
I have tried this on another laptop running lucid and it works fine.

steps to reproduce:
1 power on laptop
2 try to connect to university secured wireless network using network manager
3 wait while it tries to connect, fails, then asks for credentials again.

steps to reproduce a possible connection after resuming from standby:
1 wake laptop from suspend-to-ram
2 try to connect to university secured wireless network using network manager
3 wait while it tries to connect and sometimes succeeds.

4 disconnect from network
5 try to connect to university secured wireless network using network manager
6 wait while it tries to connect, fails, then asks for credentials again.

Syslogs for a successful connection after resuming from standby:
http://nm.pastebin.com/k1mS5jT4
And an unsuccessful connection: http://nm.pastebin.com/4jF8NXk1

note, there is a line that shows "kernel: [10324.492055] ERROR!!!
RTMPCancelTimer failed, Timer hasn't been initialize!" in both logs im
not sure if this is related to bug 376577

[Bug 994100] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 Updater Fails to Work

2012-05-06 Thread Jarrod Henry
This is an issue of the site not having the files. To remedy this, we'd
need you to change your source in software sources to the us ubuntu
mirror, and then try updating again.

You can access this through Software Sources or the Ubuntu Software
Center , Edit Menu, Software Sources. Click "Download From" and
select , for the time, Main Server. Then please re-run the application.

Thank you,

Jarrod

[Bug 985712] Re: when run inside a screen session, tf loses the buffer on resizing

Hi there, Leto.

What version of tf does this occur with, and what version of Ubuntu are

(Also, what version of screen are you using, just in case there's some
cross issue with the interaction of screen and tf here?)

Thanks!

[Bug 985712] Re: when run inside a screen session, tf loses the buffer on resizing

2012-05-07 Thread Jarrod Henry
I can replicate this bug, however, tf5 is supplied in the tf5 package,
not in the tf package.

I'd suggest installing tf5 (which does work , verified) and eliminates
the issue you're presenting.

Going to suggest this be marked LOW and Triaged.

A workaround does exist for this scenario/bug. After resizing, if you
issue a /recall command, it will recall the last X lines that were
presented, and those lines will be formatted for the current buffer.

[Bug 993792] Re: R.Box doesn't show the album art

2012-05-03 Thread Jarrod Henry
Are you referring to the double click that will start a song playing as
opposed to simply clicking on the song itself?

If so, playing a song will load the correct album art, while simply
selecting its row would not.

Please clarify if when you play a song, does album art not appear until
you click play AGAIN?

Thanks!

If you go to "onboard settings" , the app, and select the general tab,
what is the status of the check box marked "Show When Unlocking The
Screen?"

I noticed that disabling the onboard keyboard myself did NOT untick this
box.

Confirming this bug.

[Bug 993930] Re: onscreen keyboard doesn't disappear from lock screen

2012-05-03 Thread Jarrod Henry
Steps to reproduce: (On first execution , this bug will appear. If you
disable the lock screen on screen keyboard, it will not appear on future
executions.)

1) Enable onboard through using "onboard" in dash
2) The onscreen keyboard should appear
3) Using the indicator, select "QUIT"
4) The onscreen keyboard should disappear
5) Lock the screen
6) Start to Unlock the screen: The keyboard should appear in the bottom of the
screen.

Workaround:

Select "Onboard Settings" from the Dash
Untick box on general tab that reads "Show When Unlocking The Screen"

Suggested resolutions:

1: We could disable all those boxes when someone selects "QUIT" from the app
indicator
2: We could more clearly detail that quitting the app indicator is not
necessarily quitting the on screen keyboard.

Suggesting this be marked "Low" and "Triaged"

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in "error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"

2014-05-05 Thread Jarrod Sears
I'm running on an Acer Aspire that I installed a fresh blank SSD in with
Ubuntu last year. I've never touched or manually edited any grub
settings.

The only grub install that I've ever done was directly done through the
Ubuntu installer and/or any other subsequent Ubuntu version updates.

After upgrading to 14.04, the laptop boots directly to the grub error
message reported in this bug.

This is a serious issue and is not due to screwing around with grub
settings. It is a direct bug caused by upgrading to 14.04.

Now I get to spend the next several hours messing with downloading boot
repair disks to public PCs and trying to fix this problem...

[Bug 318221] Re: watch command does not show utf-8 characters

[Bug 1728045] Re: Please restore battery time remaining to top bar!

2018-09-17 Thread Jarrod Farrell
Resurrecting this bug report to mention that I also miss the time
remaining but also provide a resolve.

It was extremely useful to know how much time I had before I had to seek
a charger for my laptop and plan accordingly. Sure I can still check
this, but having to trackpad my cursor over and get the time is just an
annoying inconvenience.

However to quench the need for the few, there is a Gnome shell extension
compatible with 3.28.2 that'll let you add back in the time remaining by
editing the extentsion's setting to show it. It'll give you the practical
remaining or percentage, but not both. However you can enable the native
percentage assuming you can ignore the numbers getting too friendly with the
percentage.

I think I am seeing a duplicate of this bug as well. When off AC, I
adjust the brightness, however, the "Dim to" takes over and down adjusts

lower point than what the "dimmer" was set to.

[Bug 104450] Re: progress bar fail to report correct progress

2007-04-08 Thread Jarrod Henry
Okay. I'll triage this one in. No duplicates.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using, and what soundconverter package
is this?

You can find the package information by typing "dpkg -s soundconverter"
.. What we're interested in is both the version and the architecture.

Also, if you could tell us what you were doing in the process of
conversion ? Does it work better on estimation with some than on
others, or is it all off?

Thanks!

That's alright. More information is better than less. I'm going to go
ahead and edit the text behind this bug and then test it myself, and it
sounds like we can go ahead and confirm it. As for the other
instances, I'd suspect those are not as much bugs as change requests and
what not. We'll focus on the initial issue, and the others can be
refiled if necessary.

Marking as low, and will contact the upstream.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: soundconverter
+
+ Original Report:

Soundconverter's progress bar reports the incorrect overall progress of
the conversion, while SoundConverter also fails to calculate the correct
  time remaining.
+
+ I'm using Ubuntu Feisty, and the SoundConverter package is version
+ 0.9.4-0ubuntu1; architecture would be i386.

+
+ Appended by: Jarrod Henry
+
+ Ubuntu Version: Feisty
+
+ Software Version/Package: SoundConverter 0.9.4-0ubuntu1
+
+ Architecture: i386
+
+ Steps to Reproduce: Convert a sound file from one format to another.
+
+ Expected Action: The progress bar gives an estimation of time remaining
+ and percentage of completion
+
+ Actual Action: The progress bar does not accurate represent the task's
+ completion, and the time remaining is erratic.

[Bug 318221] Re: watch command does not show utf-8 characters

2009-11-14 Thread Jarrod Lowe
Previous patch has a breakage to do with combining characters (it strips
them out.)

I should have that fixed, and post an updated patch tomorrow.

2019-11-03 Thread Jarrod Farrell
@kaihenfeng
Same white screen issue. But this time I actually collected last boot's journal
and noticed this boot's and last boot's share a similar stack-trace at boot.
Searching comes up with,
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107296
And judging from the comments they mention blank screens. But this stack trace
appears regardless on a boot that gets a usable or a white void, albeit
discretely different due to file differences it seems so it might not even be
related. It's something I've observed.

[Bug 1848108] Re: [amdgpu] Screen Glitching & Kernel Panic

2019-10-14 Thread Jarrod Farrell
@kaihengfeng
Following instructions here,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds
I've installed generics, rebooted, and was welcomed to the blinding white void.
Hazarding a guess, I typed in my system's encryption password and it subtly
changed brightness like it usually did and a mouse cursor appeared. So that's
something.
Switching to a virtual console still was white but I was able to blindly login
and type in `sudo reboot now` and switch back to a stable kernel.

Removing a workaround employed here,
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/ThinkPad-E485-E585-Firmware-bug-ACPI-IVRS-table/td-p/4191484
particularly the `ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0` line didn't resolve and just left me
hung after GRUB like it did normally.

2019-10-15 Thread Jarrod Farrell
I'm using 5.0.0-31-generic at the moment and it seems to have quelled
the issue, including the graphical issues. So I guess the graphical
issues is a symptom of a problem with the kernel baring something else
having a disagreement with it.

[Bug 1904069] [NEW] RTL8822BE ThinkPad E585, Bluetooth detaches on boot, attaches after suspend

2020-11-12 Thread Jarrod Farrell
Public bug reported:

We're running Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
We're expecting the RTL8822BE to have bluetooth working after boot
We're not expecting the RTL8822BE to attach bluetooth, disconnect shortly, then
become attach after resuming from a suspend.

My ThinkPad is equiped with the RTL8822BE chipset that's providing WiFi
and, should, Bluetooth. The WiFi portion of this works fine, however the
Bluetooth portion is acting unusual. It will detach itself during boot
then after resuming from a suspend it'll become reattached and stay
attached until the system is restarted.

In brevity: with dmesg, during boot it sees there's a USB device

Then later detects what it is

So either thinkpad_acpi is doing something that triggers the bluetooth
to disconnect (since it always seems to disconnect after thinkpad_acpi)
or something else is going wrong.

apport-collect will follow shortly.

[Bug 1848108] Re: [amdgpu] Screen Glitching & Kernel Panic

2019-12-16 Thread Jarrod Farrell
@kaihengfeng

Sorry about the delay. Life being distracting.

But it seems like the issue is /mostly/ fixed in the provided 2019-12-16
build and so far hasn't required me to hard shutdown which is good. What
isn't particularly good is the occasional "freeze" where everything on
screen stops for a few moments. Occasionally during these freezes, items
that were occluded by something appeared in front of it instead, like
desktop icons in front of Firefox with mild graphical glitching on a
terminal window (tiling parts of a window somewhere else). It seems like
the issue occurs when something even mildly graphically intensive
(searching through a large webpage, alt-tabbing, etc.) will cause one of
these freezes. I've even had it happen several times in a row before it
finally recovered.

I did open journalctl -f and noted this:

Dec 16 16:12:29 DarkBolt kernel: [drm:amdgpu_dm_commit_planes.constprop.0
[amdgpu]] *ERROR* Waiting for fences timed out!
Dec 16 16:12:29 DarkBolt kernel: [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR*

[Bug 1664049] [NEW] Missing directory in anope package triggers crash

2017-02-12 Thread Jarrod Frates
Public bug reported:

After installing inspircd (2.0.20-5build2) and anope (2.0.3-1build2) on
Ubuntu 16.04 (server installation) from standard repository packages,
found that anope either crashes after five minutes or service does not
start (whether using 'service anope start' or 'systemctl start anope').

Log entries pointed to missing directory /var/lib/anope/db/backups

anope/services.log.20170210:[Feb 10 08:46:07 2017] Anope 2.0.3 starting up
anope/services.log.20170210:[Feb 10 08:51:10 2017] DB_FLATFILE: Unable to back
up database anope.db (No such file or directory)!
anope/services.log.20170210:[Feb 10 08:51:10 2017] Unable to back up database
anope.db (No such file or directory)
anope/services.log.20170210:[Feb 10 08:56:06 2017] Anope 2.0.3 starting up
anope/services.log.20170210:[Feb 10 09:01:10 2017] DB_FLATFILE: Unable to back
up database anope.db (No such file or directory)!
anope/services.log.20170210:[Feb 10 09:01:10 2017] Unable to back up database
anope.db (No such file or directory)

Creating the target directory fixes this:

mkdir -p /var/lib/anope/db/backups
chown irc:irc /var/lib/anope/db/backups
chmod 700 /var/lib/anope/db/backups

Issue has been replicated three times on three different systems.
