[Bug 1928455] Re: system doesn't boot after patch w/ bug 1925010
Today my system booted up fine, though I'm not sure what would cause the change in behaviour. According to dpkg log, these are the packages updated yesterday: 2021-05-14 07:01:00 status installed distro-info:amd64 1.0 2021-05-14 07:01:03 status installed ubuntu-advantage-tools:amd64 27.0.2~21.04.1 2021-05-14 07:01:07 status installed man-db:amd64 2.9.4-2 It seems I was a bit too quick to file this bug. I apologize for my over-zealousness. I certainly do appreciate the information about how to put shim in to verbose mode, and I will be sure to do that if I have boot problems in the future, as well as collect more info from the live media. Interestingly, my system seems to be running much better without having to pass in the iommu related options I usually do. [Bug 1928455] [NEW] system doesn't boot after patch w/ bug 1925010
Public bug reported: Ubuntu doesn't boot on my system after the patch yesterday which includes the fix for this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1925010 Not sure if it's directly related to that bug, or something else. Is there some sort of boot logging I can enable? Or have my system stop rebooting itself in a loop, and just display errors? Ubuntu also reset my grub config, which has been filed as a bug multiple times, yet never fixed. It would be really great if Ubuntu stopped doing that. Ubuntu 21.04, up to date as of yesterday. [Bug 1643200] Re: After updating to firefox 50.0, tab goes black instead of showing web pages
Hi, I had the same issue, and 'ubuntu modifications' did resolve it so thanks! A couple of things to add in case they help: For me the issue was not triggered by the update itself, but by me disabling an addon I had installed. Removing or reinstalling/reenabling the addon after that made no difference. What did help (temporarily) was removing all profiles. If Firefox could find no saved profiles when it launches, it worked - until the next restart of course, because then a profile was already saved. As for your workaround (thanks again), I'll only add it is a 'recommended package' for me, I cannot install it from within Firefox. Once installed with 'apt-get install xul-ext-ubufox' it appears as an installed extension and can be disabled (didn't try) from within Firefox. [Bug 1546078] Re: ffmpeg outdated: please upgrade to 3.0
Ubuntu 16.04 should be released with ffmpeg 3.0 as default. For VLC you could release renamed ffmpeg packages(like _2.8 as ubuntu does with many packages) or add ffmpeg as part of vlc(and renamed libs) or just compile it static-ffmpeg and vlc are gpl so no problem. [Bug 1159409] [NEW] "Rename..." menu option falsely greyed out (still works though)
Public bug reported: After ctrl+c (copy), ctrl+v (paste) -ing a file a number of times, I went to rename the duplicates. Tachyon is built as a C callable library, which can be used with the included demo programs or within your own application. The distribution also includes a simple scene file parser front-end which reads a few different formats. Tachyon implements all of the basic geometric primitives such as triangles, planes, spheres, cylinders, etc. Some of the goals in developing Tachyon were to make it fast and for it to parallelize well. These are what set it apart from more full-featured programs like POV-Ray, Rayshade, and others. Tachyon supports enough features to be an excellent alternative to slower programs for demanding animation and scientific visualization tasks. As time goes on, Tachyon will indeed incorporate more features, but with a continued emphasis on rendering performance. [Bug 751490] [NEW] With gedit window "full screen" (not maximized), spelling dialog is inaccessible
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Metacity allows one to run a window "full screen", which hides all window decorations and uses all screen real estate for the window. This does NOT maximize the window. In this state, the spelling dialog pops UNDER the main gedit window, and cannot be raised. Steps to reproduce: Start gedit Make the window full-screen in Metacity (Go to System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts to bind this to a key) Type a misspelled word, I use "thate" Go to Tools > Check Spelling Observed behavior: Check Spelling window is not visible. Using Alt-Tab, it appears in the window list and can be selected, but it never becomes visible. None of the controls of the gedit main window are accessible. One must Shift-Tab then Space to exit the window (ESC doesn't do it). Expected behavior: Check Spelling window appears above the main gedit window. [Bug 518368] Re: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
I get the two assert lines. No segfault/crash. But, I find an instance of gnome-appearance-properties in the background taking 100% CPU. That is a problem discussed in some older bug-reports and I wonder if there is any relation. I have to do a 'killall gnome-appearance-properties' to get the processor back. My system is running standard Lucid with some customizations on the Ambiance theme (I think this problem started after I did these changes; but that is not certain, I recently shifted from Jaunty to Lucid -- new-install, not an upgrade). I have all packages updated to current. Could not locate any specific fix for this processor hog problem and I am not even sure it is really related to the asserts. Any light on the relation or lack-there-of would be great. Also, any references to specific open bugs discussing this will also help. thanks.
