[Bug 1276960] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 upgrade broke click-and-drag
Also, this doesn't seem to be a fixed-time delay between pushing the mouse button and the event firing. Instead, it appears that the mouse-down event can only fire if the cursor is not in motion, or when the button is released (in which case mouse-down and mouse-up fire consecutively). For example, clicking while spinning the cursor in circles never registers a drag event. But if I stop moving the mouse for even a moment, the mouse-down event registers then (regardless of how long ago I actually pressed it). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276960 Title: Ubuntu 13.10 upgrade broke click-and-drag To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1276960/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1276960] [NEW] Ubuntu 13.10 upgrade broke click-and-drag
Public bug reported: After upgrading to 13.10, click-and-drag no longer works correctly (system-wide). Steps to reproduce: * Open a window where you can highlight text * Move the cursor to the start of the text you want to select, using the touchpad * Press the right-click button and immediately start dragging using the touchpad * Eventually let go of the button and stop dragging On Ubuntu 13.04 this worked fine. After upgrading to 13.10, however, click events are only registered with a large delay. So doing the steps above actually causes the following event sequence. * The mouse moves along the drag path * The button-down event registers long way into the drag (or maybe at the end of the drag path) * The remainder of the mouse motion events then happen * The button-up event triggers (I verified the event order using `xinput test`) Workaround is to wait (maybe about a second) between pressing the right mouse button and starting to drag. Needless to say, this makes using Ubuntu pretty annoying. [Bug 835857] Re: Lifebook T901: system crashes, hangs, etc at frequent intervals
I was running a batch process on my computer (converting file formats and rendering pngs) when the following happened: 1. The mouse started lagging 2. Panels, menus, workspace switching, etc. stopped working 3. I logged in to a text terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and killed the batch script and the renderer subprocess 4. Graphical environment started working a little better, and I clicked "stop" all of firefox's "unresponsive script" dialogs that popped up 5. Graphical environment hung again, so I killed unity--server from the text terminal 6. The unity menus rebooted, hard drive access stopped for a while, and everything seemed more or less fine 7. The computer hung completely, and needed a hard reboot 8. I checked the kernel log and it looked nasty. Some other notes (don't know if they matter): The wireless switch was OFF, and the computer was connected to ethernet The laptop was plugged into power and charging when I began the batch process, and plugged in and fully charged after the reboot. An older version of the batch script running overnight may have frozen at the exact same file. (All I know is that the computer hung, and it stopped at around the same place) In short: I can count on having to reboot Ubuntu once a day, at the most inconvenient moment imaginable. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Is this an Ubuntu bug? A hardware problem? Something else? ** Attachment added: "Kernel log from when the computer was running with intensive lag and constant hard drive usage." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/835857/+attachment/2340777/+files/kern.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/835857 Title: Lifebook T901: system crashes, hangs, etc at frequent intervals To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/835857/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 695149] Re: [i945gm] Right-click menus don't disappear
I honestly don't understand what's going on with the bug status here. I wasn't involved in any kind of beta-testing for maverick: I've been using the production version ever since its release. The bug occurs at random intervals with all kinds of pop-up menus: right-click, menubar, and others: any of those black-background selection menus that pop up on top of everything else on the screen and are drawn by GTK. Also, are you sure this is likely to be a bug in X? If I were to guess, I'd think it much more likely to be a bug in GTK, Gnome, or the window manager than a bug in X. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/695149 Title: [i945gm] Right-click menus don't disappear -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 695149] [NEW] Right-click menus don't disappear
Public bug reported: Sometimes, exiting out of a right-click/menu-bar menu doesn't actually close the menu. Sometimes, the actual menu options remain, while other times they are replaced by an empty black box. Launching any new menus over the previous one causes them to "stamp" themselves onto the old menu area. This happens for "File menu" and similar, as well for context menus (see attached screenshot). Opening up the same menu again once or twice fixes the problem. In the case of the panel issue, I can't find the menu again so I can't make the overlay go away. Clicking on it just clicks on the application under it, and locking/unlocking the screen only "stamps" pure black onto the menu. [Bug 445303] Re: policykit-1 password dialog sometimes hangs
James_w's PPA fixes it for me. Thank you very much! Steps which reproduce the problem in Maverick, but which cause no such problem in the PPA: 1. Run "gnome-network-properties" 2. Change the location. 3. Press close 4. Press "Apply System-Wide" on the dialog that pops up. 5. Bring focus to the authentication window by clicking on the window header (NOT the password box) 6.
