[Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-10-30 Thread phpmonkey
Martin,
The Make Default Apply are buttons in monitor preferences.
It doesn't seem to have created a custom xorg.conf file.
I have attached a screenshot.

[Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-10-12 Thread phpmonkey
I upgraded my twinhead e10 to Maverick (clean install) and things worked
beautifully out of the box (geode version installed by default is
2.11.9-5).

It booted up in 640x480 but after selecting 1024x600 (these are the only
two options, fine by me!) and then Make default apply it now
boots up with the correct resolution every time. And there was much
rejoicing!

Thanks everyone for your help, I really appreciate it.

[Bug 576204] Re: lucid doesn't shut down completely

2010-10-12 Thread phpmonkey
I just did a clean install of maverick on my twinhead twinmate e10 and
had the same issue as I did with Lucid.

Once again, using Alfonso's quiet acpi=force (#15) method worked for
me.

Should this be reopened?

2010-10-11 Thread phpmonkey
I'm sorry, I didn't intend to submit that comment mid-draft (:

My xserver-xorg version is 1.7.5+5Ubuntu1

In reply to your comments,

1) Since the correct ratio for my screen is 16:9, I'm honestly not
fussed about the availability of 4:3 ratios (640x480, 320x240,
especially that last one given my screen size :))

2) This on the other hand is annoying. I've attached the Xorg.0.log

[Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-09-30 Thread phpmonkey
Wonderful! I can confirm that with 2.11.9-5 on my TwinHead Twinmate e10
I can now get the correct ratio.

However, It defaults to 640x480 (4:3), which I quickly changed to
1024x600 (16:9) ;) [These are now the only two options]

When I boot up, the login screen still displays skewy, with the 4:3
ratio (which doesn't happen when I have the xorg.conf file)

Cheers,

Jenny (phpmonkey)

2010-09-29 Thread phpmonkey
Hi Frank,

As I mentioned, I have no problem getting a 1024x600 resolution with a
custom xorg.conf (which I have supplied previously, it's in the
attachments section).

I believe we are trying to see whether it is possible to have this ratio
available by default (without an xorg.conf file).

Hi Martin-Éric,

I downloaded Geode 2.11.9-1 but there are dependency issues with my
current 10.04 setup (xserver-xorg-video-geode-_2.11.9-1 needs xorg-
video-abi-8.0 which needs an updated xserver-xorg-core which needs an
updated xserver-common (no worries) and keyboard-configuration (which
conflicts with installed package 'console-setup'). I should be able
to test it when I upgrade to 10.10 though? :/

[Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-05-31 Thread phpmonkey
Hello,

If I run ps -aux | grep Xorg I get the error message

bad ps syntax, perhaps a bogus '-'? See http://procps.sf.net/faq.html;

which says According to the POSIX and UNIX standards, the above command
asks to display all processes with a TTY (generally the commands users
are running) plus all processes owned by a user named x. If that user
doesn't exist, then ps will assume you really meant ps aux. The
warning is given to gently break you of a habit that will cause you
trouble if a user named x were created. which doesn't mean much to me
:o)

Anyway, after the error message it outputs a line that looks like this:
jenny 0.0 0.03252 YYY pts/0 S+ 0.00 grep Xorg

With a number that is different every time the command is run (and
YYY changes sometimes). Neither killing 3252 nor any of the numbers
does anything, it says no such process each time...

Cheers
Jenny

2010-05-31 Thread phpmonkey
OK, well here's what I did (don't know if it's good form or not...)

1. logged in as usual
2. press Ctrl+alt+F1
3. logged in
4. $ sudo pkill gdm
5. $ /usr/bin/Xorg -configure [gave some error message]
6. $ sudo /usr/bin/Xorg -configure [saved xorg.conf.new into my home directory]

I then looked at the conf file, it already had geode as the driver.
(see attached)

I copied it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf but I had the same issue (defaults to
1024x768 and no option for 1024x600)

Yes my computer has a 16:9 ratio (lspci already provided) which is why I
was seeking a 1024x600 resolution.

I will provide the info I have, please let me know if I am missing
anything.

I tested the three scenarios in the following order

1. no xorg.conf - default for 10.04
2. Hunk Cui's xorg.conf
3. my xorg.conf (provided earlier)

I will provide screenshots showing Monitor config xorg.0.log

I will also attach my syslog (which spans the three cases).

Please let me know if I can do anything else (preferably with
instructions!)

The xorg.conf file that works for me is attached to this earlier

I'm fine with that conf file, but I'm happy to do more testing, so I
tried to run usr/bin/Xorg -configure but I just get the error message:

[Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-05-17 Thread phpmonkey
I have a Twinhead Twinmate e10 laptop which I have been struggling to
get working with a 1024x600 screen in Ubunt or UNR. It always goes to
1024x768. I'd made it used to make it liveable by putting two blank
panels at the bottom that filled in the excess 168 pixels. Then,
working in full-screen mode it was the right size. Still not ideal
though!

The most recent driver I was using was 2.11.8-4 (from a fresh install of
Ubuntu 10.04)

But now I've got it working, thanks to Albrecht Rainer, with the
attached xorg file. I've also attached the lspci for my machine in case
it's of interest!

If I create a new contact in evolution directly into the Ubuntu One
CouchDB, it also loses the address info I type in.

If I create a new contact on the 'ubuntu one 'website, the address seems
to port over correctly to evolution.

System info is attached, let me know if I can provide any other info.

Cheers

Jenny

[Bug 486633] Re: Evolution contacts have no address in CouchDB

2009-11-22 Thread phpmonkey
Thanks for the quick reply.

I added the repository and updated to:
evolution 2.28.1-0ubuntu2
evolution-couchdb 0.3.4-0ubuntu1
ubuntuone-client 1.1+r278-0ubuntu1~ppa1~karmic
ubuntuone-client-gnome 1.1+r278-0ubuntu1~ppa1~karmic
python-ubuntuone-client 1.1+r278-0ubuntu1~ppa1~karmic

I rebooted everything now...
*when I try to copy/move any address to the Ubuntu One DB I get: Error adding
contact: other error.
*when I create a contact directly into the address book, It doesn't save the
address part of the address, but the rest (city, zip, etc) is fine.
*I can import a vcard file directly into the Ubuntu One database, but once
again it doesn't save the address part of the address, but the rest (city,
zip, etc) is fine.

[Bug 485185] [NEW] f-spot folder export fails to rotate resize image if resize to set to larger than the original.

2009-11-18 Thread phpmonkey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

If you try to export a file to a folder using the Folder Export Plugin,
and choose to resize it to something larger than the original, it seems
to work fine, but when you go to open it, it is the same size as it was
before.

This might be the expected behaviour (as in the resize is presumably
designed to create thumbnails, and making it larger than the original
would degrade the quality of the photo) but it IS a little counter
intuitive.

Anyway, the real problem for me was that in the case where you choose a
larger size than the original AND to rotate it, it fails at both
operations.

I know that example is silly (why would you want to make it bigger?),
but this might come up if you are exporting a bunch of photos of an
event, and one happens to be taken from a mobile phone. You choose to
resize and rotate them all to 750px to send them in an email. It would
tell you everything went well, but if the photo from the mobile phone
was less than 750px to begin with, then it will still be at original
size and will NOT be rotated. All the other ones rotate resize fine.

I guess I would like to have the photo rotate whether or not it is
resized successfully.

Cheers :D

[Bug 485185] Re: f-spot folder export fails to rotate resize image if resize to set to larger than the original.

2009-11-18 Thread phpmonkey
Attaching a video of me trying to export a single photo (640x480px) to a
folder, with resize set to 1000px rotate enabled. The export says it
went fine, but it is the same size and has not been rotated.

+ Edit: Using the previous example, If you create a web gallery, and choose to
resize all to 750px and rotate, all the thumbnails will be correctly rotated,
but when you click on the thumbnail of a photo that was originally 640x480px
for example, it shows the original photo which is not rotated.
