[Bug 1575078] Re: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while
Note: After a complete system re-install my audio had been working fine: **Stock kernel/Intel VGA/GDM/Gnome** Then the problem re-occurred after I did some work with an alternative stack: **Stock kernel/Nvidia/lightdm/Gnome** and then switched back to my original stack. **Perhaps lightdm does some dodgy low level configuration? Or perhaps it's something to do with using Nvidia (with prime-select nvidia)?** (if you're wondering why I'd change my DM for a session it's because nvidia drivers + gdm = dead system. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1559576 so when I need the nvidia stuff for OpenCL support in Darktable I have to switch DMs.) Back on the original stack, the command line fix in comment #7 worked for me on 4.4.0-24-generic after unplugging and re-plugging in the jack. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575078 Title: [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266] Headphone jack stops working after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1575078/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1580917] [NEW] [XPS 15 9550, Realtek ALC3266, Black Headphone Out, Left] No sound at all
Public bug reported: All was working fine, then one day it goes silent when plugging in my speakers to the headphone socket, and forever after with something plugged in (internal speakers still work fine). Looking at pavucontrol and/or "Sound settings" under Gnome it shows that the sound should be playing on the Headphones output port - the VU meter is bouncing up and down ok, but it's silent. Pull out the wire (or select internal speakers for the Output) and the sound switches to the internal speakers OK. Last time this happened I fiddled for ages and then got distorted sound (sounds like some sort of cross-channel thing) and this only went a away with a complete re-install of Ubuntu (which I did to try to fix a separate bug but am not willing to do again!). I ran alsa-info.sh from the command line and uploaded the info. Here's the URL it gave me to share: http://www.alsa- project.org/db/?f=06...3f7ebb379442a7 It's now happened again, having spent all Friday enjoying music, Monday morning turn on and silence! I've not done any upgrades since. I have tried completely reinstalling pulseaudio (based on suggestions found on the ubuntu wiki) to no avail. I had it as a pass because when one monitor is ON it works, but having done the other tests I realised that the hang comes when two are turned on at once, which was not something I tested here. - 5:E With monitor plugged in, working under Gnome, logging out to LightDm caused hang. Also booting to lightdm with hdmi monitor caused hang. - 6:F. gdm goes blinky on laptop, unusable with external screen plugged in. See note below, seems to be the same problem: can't do two screens at once. Unplugging restores a working laptop screen. - 8:F on test 8 first plugin of monitor caused blank screens. Unplug, replug gave an image on the external, laptop turned off. Nb. I had the 'Displays' config ui up the 2nd time I plugged in, not sure if this makes any difference. This is working. [Bug 1574533] [NEW] Cannot start gdm3 with nvidia drivers in use
Public bug reported: When using nvidia-361 drivers gdm will not start, whereas lightdm will start (and is able to launch a gnome DE session). I get a blank screen. [Bug 1559304] Re: nvidia 361 drivers cause unresponsive machine
I tried the solution from #6 but it did not work for me: With nvidia-364 installed: 1. I could start LightDM but could not start a Gnome session - few flashes after entering password and it bounced me back to the lightdm login screen. 2. If I selected gdm as my display manager I could not get to the login screen. It would keep flashing blank, then back to a tty, then back to blank, then back to tty. ** Attachment added: "syslog and Xorg.0.log from trying to boot nvidia-364 to gdm" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1559304/+attachment/4646141/+files/logs.tar.xz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1559304 Title: nvidia 361 drivers cause unresponsive machine To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1559304/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1571664] [NEW] Cannot connect to guest Windows share
Public bug reported: My printer offers up a windows share. It's a guest share with no username/password required. Public bug reported: Running Gnome-Shell on ubuntu 16.04 on my Dell XPS 15 9550 laptop using Intel graphics (Nvidia card turned off), I get this error in syslog when plugging in an external monitor (HDMI). Note that when using Nvidia (proprietary) drivers and Unity DE I do not have this problem; so it seems to be related to the intel drivers, or possibly Gnome Shell's use of them. [Bug 1562140] [NEW] When importing raw+jpg files shotwell needlessly creates _embedded.jpg files

[Bug 1559304] [NEW] nvidia 361 drivers cause unresponsive machine
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 Beta1. Installing the proprietary drivers (either the tested or the updates) one results in: the splash screen goes away, revealing all the console output (with mostly green OKs) and the console log-in. This whole thing then flashes on and off and the system seems a little too upset to receive keyboard input. There is no mouse. The only way out is a hard reset, or if networking got started you can sometimes SSH in and issue a shutdown that way. The Nvidia driver is 361.28-0ubuntu1 It's a Dell xps-15 9550 with the UHD 4k screen. *-display description: 3D controller product: GM107M [GeForce GTX 960M] vendor: NVIDIA Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:01:00.0 version: a2 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=nouveau latency=0 resources: irq:127 memory:dc00-dcff memory:b000-bfff memory:c000-c1ff ioport:e000(size=128) memory:dd00-dd07 *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: Intel Corporation vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@:00:02.0 version: 06 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pciexpress msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=i915_bpo latency=0 resources: irq:126 memory:db00-dbff memory:7000-7fff ioport:f000(size=64) To restore the system I have to boot to root console from the grub menu and then remove the nvidia stuff. [Bug 923876] Re: FR: Limit and clean-up kernel images and headers automatically in LTS
Why is this bug marked fixed for Precise? And how can this bug be "fixed" for Quantal which is not LTS? The point of the bug title is that LTS is the one that this bug refers to because over 5 years the kernels will really accumulate. So I don't see how it can be fixed until it's fixed such that those of us on LTS get the old kernels cleaned up simply by running the updates. Installed linux-crashdump. Test with AltGr+SysRq+C. Crashes. Hangs with no disk activity 5+minutes. Does not reboot. [Bug 1166104] [NEW] Forwarding a message breaks character encoding
Public bug reported: I received an email (MIME, multipart, UTF-8 text specified for both HTML and Plain parts). When I click Forward Message then the encoding gets broken. It appears that the UTF-8 has been interpreted as Latin-1 (or at least not UTF8) and 'converted' into UTF8, even though it already was, so I see (what could be) double-encoded characters. The mail was from Yahoo: X-Mailer: YahooMailWebService/0.8.140.532 The message displays fine. If I hit Reply, that's fine. If I start a new message and copy-and-paste, that works properly. It appears to be just the Forward button that's broken. Both Forward and Shift-Forward exibit the same behaviour. [Bug 1161135] Re: Wifi connection never completes
I installed http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc4-raring/linux- image-3.9.0-030900rc4-generic_3.9.0-030900rc4.201303232035_amd64.deb (inc. the extras package), rebooted the machine, but it no longer seemed to think it even had a wifi capability. The wifi light on the laptop was not even on (in the problem case that I opened thebug with, the light would be on, and the computer would start to try to connect, but it would not succeed). I tried a reboot, but still, no light; no connection. [Bug 1161135] [NEW] Wifi connection never completes
Public bug reported: I have an intermittant problem with connecting to wifi networks. If the machine boots and connects successfully, the connection is reliable and stays up. If, however, the machine boots and has not connected, it never succeeds in establishing a connection. In the 2nd (failing) state I have tried connecting to more than one network and it will fail to connect with that, too. At the same time, other devices have not had any problems with their connections to the same networks. These are familiar networks, so I know that there have not been any config changes that would otherwise account for this behaviour. Previously this was not a problem on this machine, which makes me suspect it's a problem that's crept in a few kernel releases ago. I run Ubuntu Precise and update it every month. I've had this problem for about 4-8 weeks, I would guess. I notice that there is a new kernel out, so I will upgrade and try that. $ apt-cache policy linux-generic linux-generic: Installed: 3.2.0.38.46 Candidate: 3.2.0.39.47 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: linux-generic 3.2.0.38.46 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-38.61-generic 3.2.37 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-38-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Bug 1070256] [NEW] mount.cifs occasionally causes GPF error/kernel panic when mounting at boot
Public bug reported: I have a number of Ubuntu Precise Desktop machines which are turned on during office hours on a LAN which rely on /etc/fstab entries to auto mount cifs shares to a Debian Samba server on the LAN. Normally this works fine. Some machines have static IPs, some use DHCP. Occasionally though, at boot time, I get a black screen of death with stack trace dumped like that shown below. Note that often this causes the entire system to hang, but that today it's continued to boot and everything seems to be working, except the samba shares. It is usually fine after a reboot. There is no reason to suggest there is any problem at the server end (nothing in syslog) and the server is in use by a dozen other machines on the LAN which are successfully connected. Sample output (I expect ubuntu-bug attached this anyway): [ 18.231766] CIFS VFS: default security mechanism requested. [Bug 1060052] [NEW] gnome shell freezes on startup. intermittent
Public bug reported: Occasionally, gnome shell locks up right after lightdm login. The mouse moves, but nothing responds to clicks. Keyboard is ignored. I've found a work-around suitable for technical people only, which is to Ctrl-Alt-F1, log in, and type pkill -HUP gnome-shell, then log out and go back with Alt-F7. At the command prompt, I observed 2 zombie lightdm processes. Not sure if related. Figured it was a gnome bug because restarting gnome-shell fixes it. Having now rolled gnome-shell desktops out in my business to non- technical users, this is a serious bug: most of them have to do a hard reset. [Bug 1046898] [NEW] complete system hang; no response to SysRq
Public bug reported: On this (and other) i5 machines, Ubuntu Precise has had daily lock-ups of this type. But the problem had gone away, and now this week it's back (happened on 2 consecutive days). I suspect an upgrade around 4/5th Sept made the change. Wasn't doing anything unusual or taxing at the time of the lock-up. Reporting in case there's a patch that's been rolled back or something, that may be identifiable. Possibly between Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-29-generic and Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-30-generic. [Bug 1033532] [NEW] Won't load pages. Sits "waiting for example.com"
Public bug reported: Firefox on the same machine, at the same time, has no problems accessing webpages. Chromium has a not-quite-every-time habit of hanging, with the twirly indicator going backwards, saying "Waiting for example.com". It will sit like that for minutes at a time, sometimes you get a page loaded, sometimes not. I know that it is not the webpage in question because (A) it can happen on any site and (B) some of the sites are mine, so I have monitored the server load at the time and not observed a problem. However, what is interesting is that I can click a link in Chromium, go to my SSH terminal for the server with tail --follow access.log running, and see that the request is not actually being received (until it is, at which point, Chromium receives + renders the page at normal speed). So DNS? I've put the test site in my hosts file, to eliminate this one. Still the problem exhibits. [Bug 1004363] [NEW] package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: I had installed fglrx-updates through Jockey, which crashed. I had then gone to command line and apt-get install fglrx-updates, which didn't crash. I then rebooted a couple of times and all seemed well. Then today, with no other changes having happened, Gnome Shell ceased up on boot, unresponsive to clicks or keyboard, and seemed to be also holding back wireless connections. fun. I believe it was in purging fglrx with apt-get that this crash occurred. I am now back on the hotter and half-speed (according to glx-gears) OS drivers and have managed to boot fine. [Bug 996467] [NEW] Hangs loading pages
Public bug reported: Intermittantly Chromium refuses to load a page, saying it's "Waiting for host", but basically something's up and it will never display the page. Hit refresh as much as you like, very rarely will this work. Restart the browser and it will usually work. Obviously this is not always a suitable option. Obviously you're going to say "ah ha, maybe it IS the webserver", but I have firefox along side and it never has any trouble on the same pages at the same time. I notice from a google search that this is a frustration with Chrome, too, on many different platforms. This morning it has happened so frequently that it has pushed me to submit this bug report because it was becomming a serious productivity issue for me.
