[Bug 263345] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_pixbuf_loader_close()

2008-09-19 Thread skotti
Hi Sebastian,

sorry for the delay. I was too busy lately.

I just had a look at the dvd again and this time there is no problem
anymore. So this issue appears to be gone - like most of the other
issues i reported - while gnome matured.

[Bug 271182] [NEW] Firefox crashes

2008-09-16 Thread skotti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Starting firefox 3.0.2 (x86_64/Intrepid) and opening any headline from
http://www.heise.de in a new tab crashes the application.
Sometimes opening the application and waiting is enough.

Unfortunately i did not find the debug symbols which suit the build so
gdb doesn't give much useful info i'm afraid:

[Bug 269976] [NEW] Download speed depends on harddisk activity (?!?)

2008-09-13 Thread skotti
Public bug reported:

Affected versions: Hardy/Intrepid (x86)

When updating the system with update-manager the download speed is about
50kBit, which is too slow for 16MBit DSL.
When i create heavy I/O load on the harddrive by running baobab for /, the
download speed increases more than tenfold.
Taking away the load lets the download speed drop again.

I tested this during upgrade from hardy to intrepid (update-manager -d) and
with intrepid updating to the latest packages.
This is an Intel ICH7 chipset notebook with a Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10) wired network adapter.

[Bug 255244] Re: vinagre crashed with SIGSEGV in dlclose()

2008-08-06 Thread skotti
Only possibility would be fglrx. The driver (2:8.512-0ubuntu1) is
installed but - according to the Hardware Drivers tool - unused. lsmod
shows the radeon driver as loaded. Trying to do a glxinfo results in a
segfault of the tool.

Possibly related is a number of attempted beeps on Gnome startup.

[Bug 82803] Network config tool breaks /etc/network/interfaces

2007-02-01 Thread skotti
Public bug reported:

Description:
Enabling a wireless adapter causes the networking tool to write
incomplete/invalid data into /etc/networking/interfaces.

Involved hardware:
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 0.2)
Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)

Output from /etc/init.d/networking restart:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/init.d# ./networking restart
 * Reconfiguring network interfaces...

/etc/network/interfaces:14: too few parameters for iface line
ifdown: couldn't read interfaces file /etc/network/interfaces
/etc/network/interfaces:14: too few parameters for iface line
ifup: couldn't read interfaces file /etc/network/interfaces

Reproduction:
- open network config tool, i find three unnamed devices listed
  * wireless
  * cabled
  * modem
cabled is checked and working (RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+)
- add a profile name, e.g. Homebase, click the ok-button
- configure the wireless adapter: SSID, WEP, KEY, DHCP, close dialog
- Progressbar appears

After the progressbar closes all network connections are non functional
and there is no way returning to a working configuration using the
Network tool.

More things i tried:
- Adding another WLAN adapter that is known to work out of the box (orinoco
driver)
  * Adapter is detected and listed as eth2, configuration fails
- Restoring cabled network by entering static ip information
  * No go, none of the adapters work

Sample of a working /etc/network/interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Sample of a defective /etc/network/interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth2
iface eth2 inet dhcp

auto ath0
iface ath0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

iface eth0 inet
address 192.168.1.4
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.254

auto eth0

[Bug 81235] Re: Networking broken after update (2007/01/23)

2007-01-25 Thread skotti
Hmm, getting nowhere really.

I did a few fresh installations and it failed two out of five times after i've
been trying to enable the wireless adapter. I've compared the output of lsmod
before and after installing/configuring they showed no difference.
When the installation fails eth0 is not present, eth1 is the first adapter
listed.

I suggest we close this issue until i've found something usable.

[Bug 81235] Networking broken after update (2007/01/23)

2007-01-23 Thread skotti
Public bug reported:

With the latest updates Feisty does no longer recognize the built-in
cabled network adapter (Realtek). This is a full update from Herd-2 to
most recent level in one go.

The networking configuration tool fails to enable the network -
configure the net (appears to work on the first look), save settings
close and reopen Networking tool and all settings are gone.

During boot there is a longer delay while trying to find the net, then
feisty continues to search for WLAN adapters.

I apologize for this sort of error report, but i do currently not have
the time and opportunity to really search for the root cause. :-(
