[Bug 600112] Re: firefox freezes on load

2010-07-17 Thread tiggsy
I am still getting the problem. I can't start a new profile, as I would
not want to lose all the extensions, and most importantly, my bookmarks.

I did disable all the extensions, and it all worked fine, then i
reenabled the essential ones, and it still seemed ok. Then i realized i
had not turned fireftp back on. Immediately, the problem recurred.

[Bug 600112] Re: firefox freezes on load

2010-07-02 Thread tiggsy
With Ubuntu upgrades, you get what is delivered. But as it happens about
an hour after I read your reply we got an update to Firefox, but I have
to report that this morning the same problem recurred, so it doesn't
seem to have been fixed in the new version.

Another thing I've noticed, which may or may not be connected is that
sometimes when you start firefox up successfully, the facility to pick
answers from a dropdown list is not present. So you have to close it and
reload to get that working. This used only to happen if you opened
Firefox by clicking on a link in Tweetdeck, but as I have learnt and
never do that any more until Firefox is open, seems to have spread...

[Bug 600112] [NEW] firefox freezes on load

2010-06-30 Thread tiggsy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

On starting up Firefox in the morning, with say 15-20 tabs in the
session, sometimes - more frequently lately - the package freezes, the
loading symbols freeze on each tab, and nothing further occurs unless
firefox is closed and restarted. This morning it took 4 goes to get it
working.

This has only started happening in the last couple of versions.
Previously I was able to load up to 50 tabs without problems (when
tabkit still worked). It doesn't seem to matter whether I have more than
1 window open (i generally run radio 4 in a separate window).

[Bug 583797] [NEW] Firefox closed multiple tabs without warning

2010-05-21 Thread tiggsy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I have "warn on closing with multiple tabs open" set to yes in firefox.

I found a "workaround" that says to set "open to a blank page" somewhere
else, and I set this, but it still doesn't warn me.

I work from home and frequently spend an hour or so putting in data, all
on one screen. If I accidentally hit the stupid little x (which is now
in the left hand corner just where you don't need it, it is too easy to
hit it by accident, but i can't change this, it comes with the distro),
i lose all that work.

Please tell me how to fix this terrible bug. [Also it would be nice to
be able to move the window control buttons (X ^ v) back to the right
hand corner, but it's not a sufficient answer to this bug.]

[Bug 580492] [NEW] gedit freezes regularly

2010-05-14 Thread tiggsy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

At least once a day, gedit freezes while I'm working. Whenever it
happens, you can't do anything at all, not even close the window. You
have to go to System Monitor to close it. Obviously, there's no way to
save what you're doing, and you sometimes lose a great deal of work. It
has been doing this for some time, and I think it did it in the previous
version of Ubuntu as well (though I can't be sure).

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
gedit 2.28.0-0ubuntu2 with plugins 2.28.0-0ubuntu1

i was working as usual. What I do is paste in a file, edit it manually,
use search and replace AND regex search and replace to make further
changes, then cut from it, pasting it to another place, one
paragraph/line at a time. I was about 20% through the cut/paste process
when it failed this time. But it happens all the time, and is beginning
to drive me nuts. If gedit didn't have such good addons, I would most
likely find another option.

Sure, you can set it to send html. You can't set it to not say "this

Re: [Bug 457126] Re: Path to file being edited does not appear in title bar

2009-11-12 Thread tiggsy
Hi Pedro

Thanks for that. After enabling Users and Groups (which for some reason
was disabled in the menus) I did what you said, and sure, it works for
files on the home disk. And when I came back to my normal user, I see
that it works in my user too BUT ONLY FOR FILES ON THE "HOME" disk.

All my programming and internet source files are on a separate drive:
sdb. I don't have room for them on the home drive. All I get in the
title bar is (sdb) as the address, no matter where on that disk the file
resides. In Hardy, i got a full path name. So this appears to be a bug
affecting files on drives other than the home drive.

[Bug 457126] [NEW] Path to file being edited does not appear in title bar

2009-10-21 Thread tiggsy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

1) Jaunty Jackelope i386
2) gedit 2.26.1
3) In the previous version (supplied with Hardy Heron), the path to the file
being edited appeared in the top bar. This was useful when editing 2 files with
the same name from different places - which I do frequently. For instance, I
might have the index.php file for one site open as a template for a similar
routine on another site, which is just being implemented.
4) The bar now just shows the file name, followed by the disk it's on in
brackets - eg temp.html (sdb)

How do i restore this functionality, or will i have to wait for a
bugfix? It's going to make my work much more difficult until it's
sorted.

[Bug 107819] Re: Right click near bottom right corner deletes message

2009-06-03 Thread tiggsy
Yeah, seems like it. I just right clicked to check, as I generally use
the button at the top of the screen to delete a message.

It's not the only problem I get with right click. Frequently in firefox
rightclick will open up the Window Resizer. That is not the last thing
on the right click menu, but the first. It's a lot less annoying as I
just continue right clicking till I get the option to copy, paste or
whatever, then close all the window resizer windows afterwards, lol

[Bug 107819] Re: Right click near bottom right corner deletes message

2009-06-02 Thread tiggsy
I use Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (20090318) in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron

I never open an email in a window, i just read them in the lower panel.
This is an intermittent bug, in that it doesn't occur all the time.
However, once it's started in a particular email, it will carry on
happening no matter how often you undelete it. And you don't have to be
in the lower part of the email for it to occur.

It drives me nuts. When will it be fixed? Given that this thread
started in April 2007 and it's now June 2009?

[Bug 208209] Re: when clicking a URL link in Evince, it hangs

2008-05-29 Thread tiggsy
Well, since I used the bug reporting thing, i guess it must be evince i
was using, it is whatever program reads a pdf when you double click it.
i don't find it hangs when you click on a link. It doesn't do anything.
If you double click, it selects it as if for copying. Right-clicking the
selected link does not give an option to go to the specified url. This
means that you have to copy the url, open firefox or a new tab in
firefox, paste the link, and press go to get there. This kinda puts you
off bothering, especially if there are a number of links to click
through to. It seems pretty odd to make a pdf reader without this
functionality.

[Bug 228759] Re: Unmet dependencies installing ImageMagick API for Ruby

2008-05-09 Thread tiggsy
I looked in synaptic and found libmagick9. When i marked it for
installation (the one I had installed earlier was libmagick9-dev, not
libmagick9), I got the following message:

Package libmagick9 has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never
uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of
sources.list

Can libmagick9 be made available? Or what else should I do to obtain it?

[Bug 228759] [NEW] Unmet dependencies installing ImageMagick API for Ruby

2008-05-09 Thread tiggsy
Public bug reported:

I tried to use the automatic bug report about this twice, but it didn't
give me any chance to put comments in.

I've gone through every step in the Recommended section on this page to install
RoR on Ubuntu:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/RailsOnUbuntu

It all seems to work well until the last command, where it says to
install the Imagemagick API for Ruby you should use the prebuilt package
for ubuntu (edgy, feisty and gutsy) instead of installing the API via
sudo gem install rmagick:

~$ sudo apt-get install librmagick-ruby1.8

When I run this, I get:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
librmagick-ruby1.8: Depends: libmagick9 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

but libmagick9 was installed 2 steps before successfully.

I'm using Hardy Heron with full updates

[Bug 186071] Re: Terminal stuck installing configuring-sun-java-6

2008-05-07 Thread tiggsy
Even if you close terminal and reopen it, any further commands get "E: Could
not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another
process using it?" even though there is nothing else which should be using it.
So presumably, the java thingy is still supposedly doing something, even though
it really isn't.

This all started when I executed this command:

sudo apt-get install alsa-oss compizconfig-settings-manager faad
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-
bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-
multiverse gstreamer0.10-pitfdll liblame0 sun-java6-fonts sun-java6-jre
sun-java6-plugin unrar w32codecs

as per instructions here:

This happened to me, too. I don't know if it means the package has
installed correctly or what. There's an under the scrolling bit,
but you can't select it and Enter does not do anything

[Bug 64594] Re: hurestore will always crash on startup (unfinished tool)

2008-05-07 Thread tiggsy
This is not good. I was hoping to restore my backup.

I'm on hardy, so i am surprised that this package has not yet been
fixed. it seems to have been a known problem for some time.

In the meantime, how does one restore from a backup created with
hubackup?
