[Bug 1855303] Re: Update Broadcom Emulex lpfc driver in 5.4 to 12.6.0.x from 5.5

2020-04-03 Thread Vignesh Gunasekaran
Hi Jeff,

I went back to check if those patches in comment #5 are pulled from the
MKP tree into the Mainline tree and I noticed that those are landed now.

The SHA IDs of those commits in the Mainline kernel are as follows,

df3fe76658ed scsi: lpfc: add RDF registration and Link Integrity FPIN logging
73ec6d2748dc scsi: fc: Update Descriptor definition and add RDF and Link
Integrity FPINs
145e5a8a5cbd scsi: lpfc: Copyright updates for 12.6.0.4 patches
ad6203f97526 scsi: lpfc: Update lpfc version to 12.6.0.4
f6770e7d2329 scsi: lpfc: Clean up hba max_lun_queue_depth checks
6cde2e3e2813 scsi: lpfc: Remove handler for obsolete ELS - Read Port Status
(RPS)
4cb9e1ddaa14 scsi: lpfc: Fix coverity errors in fmdi attribute handling
a99c80742af4 scsi: lpfc: Fix compiler warning on frame size
821bc882acca scsi: lpfc: Fix release of hwq to clear the eq relationship
792f3b90be2a scsi: lpfc: Fix registration of ELS type support in fdmi
835214f5d5f5 scsi: lpfc: Fix broken Credit Recovery after driver load
0ab384a49c54 scsi: lpfc: Fix lpfc_io_buf resource leak in lpfc_get_scsi_buf_s4
error path

Could you pass on this info to your kernel team? So that all lpfc
patches can be accepted.

Thanks
Vignesh

[Bug 1855303] Re: Update Broadcom Emulex lpfc driver in 5.4 to 12.6.0.x from 5.5

Jeff,

All of those 72 patches are already accepted by the Kernel community and
most of them are already pulled into linus.git except for the ones you
listed. But, the ones you have listed are present in mkp/scsi.git.

Even when I was creating a patchset I went by searching those commit
IDs, but couldn't find them either in linus.git or mkp/scsi.git. I guess
those commit IDs were from local git. So, I found the equivalent commit
IDs for those patches in mkp/scsi.git and cherry-picked them.

Ultimately, all 72 patches are already cherry-picked from either
linus.git or mkp/scsi.git. The patchset has the cherry-pick reference in
it.

I verified the patchset applies cleanly on the focal tree using:

#git am //*.patch

I thought executing this command is all you have to do it from your end.

Regarding comment 6:

>Additionally, this one does not cleanly apply when cherry-picked:
>765ab6cdac3b681952da0e22184bf6cf1ae41cf8 scsi: lpfc: Fix a kernel
>warning triggered by lpfc_get_sgl_per_hdwq()

This commit is already pulled into the focal tree from upstream.

2020-03-12 Thread Vignesh Gunasekaran
Hi Jeff,

Here is the patchset of lpfc that is required for focal. Some of the
patches mentioned in this bug are already present in the focal tree and
the remainings are part of this patchset. The patches were cut against
the main focal tree.

Regards
Vignesh

Hey Guys,

Thanks a lot deleting the ftp* user resolved this issue. The users are added
as a part of pureadmin gui installation, I guess.

I am not sure whether this thread will help in address another issue I have
related to DVD burn on Lucid. Is there a common tool that can grab all the
relevant info for you. Besides strace/message did not give much info about
this issue as the linux freezes completely and hard reboot is the only
solution.

[Bug 392948] Re: LCD Brightness won't Change - Acer 4736z

2009-12-23 Thread Vignesh
I also have the same problem on a Toshiba T110/00D. It has the Intel
Mobile 4 Series Chipset and graphics (more specifically Intel GMA
4500M).

The fix somewhat works, but I can't decrease/increase brightness of
panel/cairo-dock, because they still remain bright. There's also the
problem that when a pop-up window comes up, and when I open up a new
window, that also remains at full screen brightness. But these are minor
quibbles, as I can finally reduce the screen brightness :-D

I really do hope the Ubuntu devs get this fixed up too :-D

True, and that may or may not go through. We'll leave it to others to
decide.

Thanks,

Nick

I haven't read the whole patch through, but I strongly disagree with the

doesn't make any sense, or sounds like a little clumsy English...

A doc guru should review this.

[Bug 219973] [NEW] Tech review report of applications.xml

2008-04-20 Thread vignesh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

* Under Installing applications, This introductory paragraph can be
added. There are two ways of installing applications in ubuntu. One is
by using the Terminal command line interface and another one is by using
either Add/Remove or Synaptic Package Manager GUI applications. This
section deals about how to install applications using the Add/Remove GUI
Tool. To install applications using the command line interface, see
[link to the section 'apt' under add-applications]. To install
applications using the Synaptic package manager, see [link to the
section 'synaptic' under add-applications].

* Under Installing applications, The advantage to using these methods
are that you will be automatically notified of updates should be
changed to The advantage of using these methods is that you will be
automatically notified of updates.

* Under Ubuntu equivalents to Windows programs, the list is way too short.
The following applications which are the basic needs should also be in that
list,
 1) Winzip, Winrar - File Roller, Ark (I'm not sure whether Ark can be here in
this list since it belongs to KDE, File Roller can be there)
 2) Notepad, Wordpad - GEdit
 3) Adobe Reader - Pdf Viewer
 4) MS-Paint - Openoffice.Org Draw, Tuxpaint (Again i'm not sure if Tuxpaint
can be here in this list since it is not preloaded in Ubuntu)
 5) iTunes - Rhythmbox Music Player (For iPod Synchronisation)
It cannot communicate with Skype, which uses proprietary technology.
* Under Ubuntu equivalents to Windows programs, a sentence which descibes
Ekiga says, It cannot communicate with Skype, which uses proprietary
technology. This might make beginners to come to a conclusion that it is not
possible to communicate to Skype users from ubuntu, which is infact possible.
So, i think the specified sentence should be replaced with, Skype is also
available under ubuntu platform but has to be installed explicitly.

* I think WINE deserves to be described under the section Ubuntu equivalents
to Windows programs as follows, In case you are not convinced with any of the
above mentioned software or in case you are too close to Windows, there is an
application called WINE, which enables Windows executables to run under linux.
With WINE, you can install any Windows application you wish, if it is
compatible. WINE has to be installed explicitly in ubuntu..
I say WINE should be here because, though its against free software principles,
this description is just for users who are too close to Windows, but still want
to use ubuntu.

[Bug 219972] [NEW] Tech review report of config-desktop.xml

2008-04-20 Thread vignesh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

The following issues are notable..
* First of all there is no definition for what a Desktop Environment is.. That
should be there..
A Desktop Environment is a graphical server which renders the users the
graphical user interface of any operating system. Every desktop environment has
its own file manager, icons, windows and other tools. Three of the famous
desktop environments in the open source world are GNOME (GNU Network Object
Model Environment) , KDE (K Desktop Environment) and Xfce.
I think this definition is to be fit in there..

* Under Installing KDE Desktop, there is procedure to install
kubuntu-desktop via synaptic manager.. but there is no procedure to do it
from terminal.. it should be in there definitely..
* the same holds good for Installing Xfce Desktop section also..

Status in Source Package ubuntu-docs in Ubuntu: Confirmed

Bug description:
The following contains grammatical errors found under the categories
'compiz-intro', 'compiz-configure', and 'compiz-problems' from
desktop-effects.xml for Hardy.

Compiz-intro
- [desktop more fun and easier to use.] I think it should be reworded 'desktop
fun and easy to use'.
- [Visual effects are enabled by default] As far as I know, visual effects are
not enabled by default. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the default is no visual
effects.
- [users of computers with certain] Somehow, I don't think the statement 'users
of computers' makes sense. The sentence should be reworded.
- [or cause the computer] Should be reworded 'or they may cause the computer'.

Compiz-configure
- The directions at the beginning to open up Appearance should be italized.
- It is often quicker to open up Visual Effects through right-clicking the
desktop background. Perhaps this should be mentioned.

Compiz-problems
- Again, the navigating should be italized.
