[Bug 1968783] [NEW] no return code from cinder api calls
Public bug reported: Trying to use the openstacksdk to call cinder's migrate_volume and i was not getting any return code. The cinder API returns a 400 because the volume I'm trying to migrate has a snapshot, so it will always fail. The problem is the openstacksdk doesn't return anything from ANY of the cinder calls. Checking the volume status after the migrate_volume call is useless, because no action was taken on the volume. So looking at the openstacksdk code, you can see almost all the cinder calls don't return anything: No return: https://github.com/openstack/openstacksdk/blob/master/openstack/block_storage/v3/_proxy.py#L616 No Return: https://github.com/openstack/openstacksdk/blob/master/openstack/block_storage/v3/_proxy.py#L588 No Return: https://github.com/openstack/openstacksdk/blob/master/openstack/block_storage/v3/_proxy.py#L495 Yet, the underlying volume object's _action() method does return the result, but the volume object doesn't return the result of that _action call here: https://github.com/openstack/openstacksdk/blob/master/openstack/block_storage/v3/volume.py#L205 ** Affects: python-openstacksdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968783 Title: no return code from cinder api calls To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-openstacksdk/+bug/1968783/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm running Ubuntu 20.10. But I think I can answer my own question. It just happened again, and this time all I needed to run was run `apt update`. I didn't even install anything! A quick google search found this page: https://www.linuxuprising.com/2020/07/how-to-restart-gnome-shell-from- command.html. I pressed Alt-F2 and then r, and that stopped the logging without a reboot! I'd still like to know why this suddenly keeps happening. 21.04 is due out in a few weeks and I'm hoping that will fix it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1905519 Title: Syslog is flooded with Object St.Bin (0x565425162c80), has been already deallocated — impossible to set any property on it. [Bug 1915481] Re: gnome crashes after running `apt upgrade`
Reproducing the crash exactly is basically impossible -- I have no idea what I was doing to trigger it on January 6. The crashes I've been experiencing happen seemingly at random while running `apt update`. It may well happen again in the future, but based on past experiences it will be with a different set of packages than the last time. Also gnome-shell was updated on January 20, and the crashes have continued to happen since then. But the last time I rebooted was after a crash, so I just ran `journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt` and I've attached the results. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915481 Title: gnome crashes after running `apt upgrade` To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1915481/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for replying so quickly. Unfortunately step 1 didn't show any crash reports. Step 2 doesn't show anything recent, but there were crashes on January 6 that might be relevant. They are: gnome-control-center: https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/28c05820-501b-11eb-9503-fa163e983629 gnome-shell: https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/16d604a2-501b-11eb-8b96-fa163e6cac46 Just to be clear, is the workaround from step 3 simply "comment out line 23 from /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and reboot"? There are a lot of other suggestion in that bug report and I wanted to doublecheck that that's all I need to do. As for reproducing the crash, it's probably impossible to exactly reproduce it since it only happens when I'm running `apt upgrade` to install new packages, and these particular new packages have already been upgraded. The best I can do is make the change, reboot, and wait for it to happen again with some new set of packages.

[Bug 1875163] Re: rdiff-backup crashes when running backup
My apologies. I resolved this locally back in April but I forgot to come back here and update the ticket when I resolved the problem. This is a known bug that has been fixed in the rdiff-backup repo: https://github.com/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup/issues/310 The code was fixed way back in March, but it never made it into 20.04. Since the files that were causing the errors for me were all in /run, my fix was just to add /run to my list of excluded directories. That was an easy decision for me since I probably should have been excluding them anyway. [Bug 1875163] Re: rdiff-backup crashes when running backup
I modified get_indexpath() in log.py to catch a TypeError exception and return the string "TypeError" instead of aborting. [Bug 1727868] [NEW] New windows are unfocused and go below current window
Public bug reported: When new applications are launched from the terminal in 17.10, the windows are unfocused and appear below the current window. This is the opposite of the behavior in (at least) 16.10 and 17.04, where new windows would appear focused and on top. This appears to be a feature in Gnome 3, which is new in 17.10. Ubuntu users upgrading from earlier versions should not be assumed to be familiar Gnome 3, nor with how to tweak Gnome settings. The Release Notes should indicate this change and document how to turn it off. Also, and more importantly, there needs to actually be a way to restore the previous behavior. If there is, I've been unable to find it in Settings, gnome-tweak-tool, or dconf-editor. I figured out what my problem was, and since I haven't seen any solutions anywhere else, hopefully this will be of some use to the next person. [Bug 1606358] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.1 unity disappears when set to autohide
There is this guy.. http://askubuntu.com/questions/802468/menu-bar-and-launcher-missing-after-installing-updates-16-04-lts which addresses virtualbox specifically. It wouldn't submit, literally nothing happened. Now that was under a 16.04 image that was upgraded to 16.04.1. When I did a fresh 16.04.1 install into VirtManager, yes, it worked, right up until I set launcher to autohide, then it was good night Charlie Brown. . If you are not using an existing 16.04(.0) image then you can't reproduce the issue. But, as you can see from the above URL, someone else reported the very same upgrade problem as I did. SOmething you should take a look at is 1001255, that is likely the culprit, with the exception of unable to move windows, as I reported as well as the above url. Are there no launchpad bugs opened against 16.04.1 re: immovable desktop windows? Being a VM I am guessing the image's concept of its video device is done externally like spice/qxl. Remember, when you first boot a new image, the launcher is set to autohide=no. Turning autohide=yes will immediately create the issue. As I mentioned im my comment in the above askubuntu issue, renaming that subdir simply restores the laucher, it does not fix autohide=yes. Ah, very interesting! I brought that image back and the suggested 'fix' of removing .config/compiz-1 restores the launcher but disables any effect of setting the autohide. I showed it as autohide on yet the launcher was visbile. I did restore setting, which turned autohide=off and then switched it to on and it is showing, regardless of what I do. I thought I'd try it with a different browser. I see chrome is not an option so I tried the ubuntu brand browser...it won't let me choose the file to attach. This stuff, your bug-ubuntu needs some work. This is crazy. I just tried firefox again and it allows me to choose files but the Submit Bug Report button is inop. It appears I can provide no further information. The other thing Sebastien, if you can not reproduce the bug, you can't verify the fix. This is a critical bug for me. [Bug 1606358] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.1 unity disappears when set to autohide
OK, I did describe two steps to reproduce. In the original case, it was an existing 16.01 current with maintenance, that I in-place upgraded. As it was existing I had already switched the launcher from autohide=off to autohide=yes as well I already had a desktop icon. so there were two artefacts of the upgrade, 1) no access to launcher and 2) applications on the desktop were functional but there were not dragable by the window's title bar. In order to determine if that was an upgrade bug or a 16.04.1 bug I created a fresh vm of JUST 16.04.1 and could reproduce the initial symptom of the launcher being absent but the terminal window (context menu->new terminal) was drag-able. There was a crash file in the first case of upgrading an existing current 16.04 vm. I can get it to submit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1606358 Title: Ubuntu 16.04.1 unity disappears when set to autohide To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1606358/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1606358] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.1 unity disappears when set to autohide
I guess I don't understand your question concerning what I changed. My change was to upgrade a perfectly good 16.04 image that functioned perfectly and after the upgrade and subsequent reboot there was no louncher and if I started Netbeans 8.1 (a desktop icon) or started a terminal session, both would start, neither were draggable. It's unclear to me why the importance went from undecided to High (which, yeah, I agree with as it's a major functionality regression, the status from new to incomplete. I gave perfectly reproduceable steps. As for what daemon or process is running I don't know. I am guessing it would take less than 30 mins to have an 'in the lab' reproduction' of the issue. In other words, this is not a wedge use case. As for your question about turning on the autohide and restarting. I did that too but as soon as I set no to yes, the problem existed. Uppon reboot, it still existed. I hope that makes sense. What else would you like? Oh, apport started throwing exceptions when I used it to create this bug so perhaps everything it was supposed to provide was missing.
[Bug 1606358] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04.1 unity disappears when set to autohide
Public bug reported: Initially I was going to report this against a completely working 16.04 VM using spice. In that case the system, once rebooted after the upgrade failed to show launcher at all and no desktop applications could be moved. This is new behavior in 16.04.1. All these things worked in 16.04. To have a clean slate I created a brand new VM with the brand new 16.04.1 iso. It came up using spice just fine, as the default for the launcher is autohide off. As I prefer the full desktop I turned autohide to on and voilà. Should you need further details, let me know. I use VMs to test new systems before I upgrade my production 14.04 system to 16.04. As it is an desktop existing system I am awaiting the software-updater prompt. Bug 1439612 was meant to identify our solution for the 14.04.03 release. Hi Brian, we are using this bug to track our submission for 14.04 (3.13 kernel). we are using bug 1439612 to track our submission for 14.04.03 (3.19 kernel) submission. Nikhith's request would be to set the version number for the driver in 14.04 update. [Bug 1439612] Re: lpfc driver for Ubuntu 14.04.03
Brian, just want to confirm, earlier today, you mentioned that the Vivid release is frozen. If so, then we may have to go with the driver you have. We have been working with the Upstream kernel maintainers to get some of our recent patches pulled into their tree. If there is a chance, we would probably ask the team to pull in a few more patches for consideration for this driver candidate for your Vivid kernel release. RE: [Bug 1439327] Re: lpfc driver needs to be updated.
OK. The challenge for us will be to see how fast we can do the development work, create the Upstream patch set, get James or Christoph to pull it in as it relates to your timeline for getting a solution from Emulex for the 14.04.03 release. I guess we will take it one step at a time and communicate our progress on getting the Upstream patch pushed to the scsi misc list and then we can track the progress together. We prefer not to pick patches straight from the scsi ml list, but rather to see the patches at least integrated into a subsystem maintainer's tree first. If they are bug fixes, etc, please make sure they are CC'd to upstream stable and we would naturally pick them up in our SRU process when we pull patches from the stable v3.19.x tree. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1439327 Title: lpfc driver needs to be updated. [Bug 1291258] [NEW] Stuck keys on Lenovo Yoga 13
Public bug reported: On the Lenovo Yoga 13 some keys, when being held down, are not released (e.g. pagedn, up arrow, etc.). Once this happens, the mouse cursor also starts scrolling in some or other direction (it can be moved with the track-pad, but keeps moving in that direction). Using an external keyboard fixes the problem. At startup, the keyboard complains about unknown key events, but I silence those using sudo setkeycodes e03e 255 sudo setkeycodes e060 255 The behavior described here happens irrespective of whether these commands were executed. My temporary work-around is to put the machine to sleep; after wakeup the keyboard works fine again. [Bug 1206463] [NEW] Non-default themes will not remain selected
Public bug reported: Firefox 23 on Ubuntu 13.10 with gnome-shell Xfce installed. I can download and select themes other than default. Firefox restarts behaves correctly. However, on the next restart or on the second restart, the default theme is active even though I do not wish it. [Bug 1048141] Re: Ubuntu boots up in a black screen
I had this problem with 12.04 on my laptop. After accepting an upgrade I could no longer boot back in. I agree that acpi=off works solidly but, from everything I've read, bad stuff can result. One thing I've noticed myself as well as listening to others is you need to reboot several times to be confident the issue is fixed. I followed one poster's advice and removed ro, it worked once, not twice. I updated my rom to v12, it also worked once, not twice. So there is a 'common' fix applied to both 12.04 and 12.10 that introduced this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1048141 Title: Ubuntu boots up in a black screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1048141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For future googlers: dconf-editor is an easier way to set the (very stupid) gnome middle-button setting. Run dconf-editor from a command prompt and navigate to org::gnome ::settings-daemon::mouse. Re: [Bug 745960] Re: Cannot boot GRUB on Intel Mac after installing to LVM
I believe there were several bugs open for essentially the same thing. In my case if the partition was from a firmware RAID, grub wouldn't be installed. I viewed this as a regression as originally, perhaps in the 7. time frame it didn't work with firmware raid unless one used the alternate install, even for desktop. I believe in the 8. or certainly the 9. time frame it would with the standard install, until 11.10 where it once again broke.
