PC is frozen from this point. No access with SSH too.

Motherboard: ASUS P5B

[Bug 1123446] [NEW] Ship pidgin-otr by default

2013-02-12 Thread zerwas
Public bug reported:

Parallel to the request [1] to add OTR to the windows release i would like to
suggest shipping the OTR plugin by default in Ubuntu.
The reason is because encryption is a basic security feature and OTR is the
de-facto standard for instant messaging encryption (imagine you would need to
do sudo apt-get install firefox-ssl for SSL support). In Adium, OTR is already
being shipped by default.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-effects

By enabling the effects in the preferences the window decoration is
"flickering". I hope everybody know what this means and is also seeing
this issue.

This does look very unprofessional indeed and my suggestion would be to
grey out everything (same method like gksudo uses?) and show the new
desktop again when compiz has taken control over the windows. That way
it would be a smooth transition.

[Bug 141048] Re: GUTSY Gwget extension for Epiphany doesn't show up in menu.

2007-10-02 Thread zerwas
I got it running by doing:
sudo apt-get install epiphany-browser-dev
svn co http://svn.gnome.org/svn/gwget/trunk gwget
cd gwget
sed -i 's/2.18/2.20/g' configure.in
./autogen.sh --enable-epiphany-extension --prefix=/usr
--with-epiphany-version=2.20
make
sudo make install

Sadly this extension only works when gwget is running before you start a
download.

Will somebody update the package?

[Bug 158487] A way to delete finished jobs needed

2007-10-29 Thread zerwas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

For Ubuntu 7.10 there is a way needed to delete finished jobs in system-
config-printer --no-tray-icon under "View" -> "Show completed jobs".
Right clicking on a job does not bring an option to remove it.

At the moment it is needed to do 3 complicated steps for beginners:

sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys stop
sudo rm /var/cache/cups/job.cache
sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys start

[Bug 566356] [NEW] Clicking on a collapsed mail account should show INBOX or unread mail

2010-04-18 Thread zerwas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Currently it is useless that the entry of a collapsed mail account is
clickable. In my opinion a click should either jump directly to INBOX or
show unread mails or do something different useful.

I attached a screenshot to make clear where a click has no effect. This
is especially annoying when many mail accounts are used which have to be
collapsed in order to keep an overview.

[Bug 607712] Re: .jar file should open with JRE instead of archive manager

2010-07-20 Thread zerwas
Thank you both for your comments.

> @Pedro: I believe zerwas means that when a .jar file is double clicked,
> rather than being opened with the archive manager
That's exactly what i meant, yes.

@Bruno: The question in your argumentation is how often it is _not_ the
case that a .jar file does not include a MANIFEST.MF file. I think that
this will almost never happen. All i know is that it is a quite big
usability problem as people are most often guided to use a terminal in
order to start the application. Regarding security, i don't think this
is a big problem because the executable bit is not set by default, just
like with .exe files; which are also opened with wine by default in
Ubuntu 10.04, if installed. So why don't do the same for .jar files? I
have often seen people despair of this issue, you can see several
threads about it in the german forums.

The process of opening Java applications should be as transparent as
possible and i would love to see a progress here for Ubuntu 10.10
already.

Bruno, i like your other ideas of a restrictive policy and an installer.
But of course this would require much more work than changing the
default "open with" from archive manager to JRE.

[Bug 348747] [NEW] Artefacts after changing orientation with xrandr

2009-03-25 Thread zerwas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Using Jaunty and using a different resultation by executing a xrandr -o
left (or right, etc.) results in some strange artefacts around the mouse

The artefacts only appear when something specific like a tab in firefox

this position makes the issue go away.
