[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.

2015-12-05 Thread Ufos92
I am not sure if there is a newer version of the same bug. My mouse
freezes sometimes as well. It happens only when I use the touchpad. I
found a workaround, and will leave it here for the time being.

```
sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse
2013-06-21 Thread 2046
I know this will be out of topic, but for those who might follow this
thread..
With the 3.10.0-031000rc1-generic kernel the Internet wired connection
is not found, the eth0 doesn't exist and so You can connect only over
wifi.
The 3.5.0-28-generic is just fine :) .. with the wired and wifi
connections.
So I hope one day it will all work under one kernel ;)
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2013-06-16 Thread 2046
I'm afraid this test won't be any helpful, because the problem doesn't occur
immediately. Sometimes it shows up straight away, but sometimes it pops up out
of nowhere after month or so, that's why I takes me sooo long to post my
result, I have been checking it under all possible circumstances that were
problematic.
I cannot run live distro all the time, and frankly I do not want to reinstall
my machine now, when it is stable after so long time.
If you want me to boot up the live distro and check if the mouse work, sure, I
can do it. But I cannot run it for a long.
2046, thank you for testing the mainline kernel. Could you please
confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu?
ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
command in the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2013-05-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
2046, thank you for updating your BIOS. Could you please test the latest
upstream kernel available (v3.10-rc1) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
mainline kernels archive directory daily folder, but the one all the way at the
bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel,
please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.10-rc1
This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing
If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.
** Description changed:
  On Lenovo Thinkpad L530 with XUBUNTU 12.10 the mouse randomly freezes.
  (this behavior is reported on Thinkpad L520 and some Dell and Asus devices
http://askubuntu.com/questions/127884/touchpad-stops-working-after-suspend-on-lenovo-t520)
  The problem has most likely something to do with this issue
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
  synaptics/+bug/896922 where I have been asked to fire new  report.
  I have tried so far...
  The bug occur on Xubuntu 12.04, CrunchBang(debian) as also Xubuntu 12.10
  I found some advices all around like install the gpointing-device-settings
where some people suggest to turn off "smart mouse selection.. don't remember
exactly the name. This feature is not found on Xubuntu, but Ubuntu.
  I played bit with the settings, nothing helped so far.
  I also tried use sudo modprobe -r psmouse which seams to help a bit from time
to time, but not always..
  Sometimes the mouse is unlocked from the total freeze to a shaky slow moves.
But because this command helps only for touchpads and not external devices, it
is not much of use.. It doesn't solve the problem completely anyway.
  I found the advice here:
http://xpapad.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/dealing-with-mouse-and-touchpad-freezes-in-linux/
  (I got the same errors in log as he mentioned in his post.)
  I also tried disable the touchpad by: xinput -set-prop 'Virtual core XTEST
pointer' 'Device Enabled' 0
  This loges me out of session in an instant.
  I also found a tread where someone suggested update the kernel above
  3.4.8 so I updated the kernel to 3.6.2-030602-generic, but with no luck
  with that either... though I must say the problem occurs "less often".
  Some people say it happens it has something to do with temperature,... or the
fan .. because it happens quite often when they work in bed... it happens to me
in such a cases more often then usual, though it might be just quincidence
..depends where we sit more often :)
  The temperature never went too high.. I think.. it is always about 44-60C
- I have not found any way how to solve this problem, The restart won't help
either.
- Couple more restarts might helps.. if it is related with the heat then it
makes sense .. at least to me.
+ I have not found any way how to solve this problem, The restart won't
+ help either.
- thanks for help 2046
+ WORKAROUND: I use an external mouse hooked to an external Apple
+ Aluminium keyboard and the mouse doesn't freeze.
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2013-05-11 Thread 2046
Hello,
my Xubuntu turns out to be totally unstable, the wifi lost it's connection all
the time, and the mouse freezes as usual. So I'm now on Linux Mint Maya
{3.2.0-41-generic}. and the mouse freezes again constantly.
The problem is solved always by unplugging the AC adapter (it works just like a
switch). Booting with "acpi=off" doesn't help.
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2013-01-22 Thread 2046
hello,
I'm getting the feeling that there is something wrong in the hardware.
Let make a small overview when the problem occurs.
I started in the England in the cold house full of moisture. It happens when I
was working in the bed with computer on the blanket. Then it froze when I work
on the table in the room when the doors and window where open frequently.. but
generally the room has been cold. Sometimes not but mostly yes.
Back in Prague relatively normal weather and cozy in the house... no problem so
far for almost 2 months.
The weather goes down and so the heater is on all the time forcing me to close
and open the window often.
That time I realized that the mouse sort of reacts to it.
When the temperature suddenly changes {goes down} the mouse freezes.  As I
wrote earlier the solution in most cases is to wait, a while or longer, then it
fixes it self.
It has been the same couple minutes ago I have started to write this post. The
computer was frozen, this time completely, so I rebooted it couple times
changing the kernel from rc4 to rc3.. no changes.. mouse in 99%  unresponsive.
So I went ahead and did some keyboard tricks open the browser found this thread
and write this review As I'm writing the window closed the mouse started to
work again.
Let my summarize it a bit. The mouse frozen when the computer laid in the beat
the fan most likely covered the computer covered from many places by the
blanket .. in such a case the moisture comes up naturally.
Then in the kitchen with high moisture with heat on from time to time while
cooking or the heater was scheduled for.
And now while I'm opening the window it freezes again.
And also I have read many people mentioning that the problem occurs when they
where with the laptop in the bed.
What do you think of it?
(Btw the mouse is fine now :) .. took about 5-10 minutes to recover.)
2013-01-18 Thread 2046
Hello,
:/ still no luck.. the mouse froze again. This time also keyboard went half
useless.
After 4 restarts the problem persists. What helps always is just wait and wait.
Sometimes couple minutes sometimes way longer.
That is my last report.
(I went to google and there are many poeple suffering this problem too,
many say it occurs after the upgrade to 12.04 I do not think that is the
problem. Even a pure Debian has frozen (the mouse)).
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2013-01-11 Thread 2046
If I remember right, nope. I have started with 12.04.
Remember the problem occurs on many distors I have tried, it is not a problem
of the Ubuntu exclusively. I do not remember what all I have tried but my first
thread says  Xubuntu 12.04, CrunchBang(debian) as also Xubuntu 12.10 so I
believe my self :) that was it.
thanks for help
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2013-01-10 Thread 2046
bad news,
the mouse start to freeze again. Both touchpad and external mouse, which has
been stable for couple months.
Still same story, it start to freeze for "no" reason in the middle of the
session. The restart doesn't help.
The mouse unfreezes after some time about an half an hour or so, I can't say
exactly.
What info do I have to send this time?
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2012-12-26 Thread 2046
The mouse does not freezes, for now.
I must say that I have been out of the house and used the touchpad for 3 days
before the BIOS update and it did not freeze either.
I do system updates every time they show up, so some of it might solved the
problem already... if it is really solved.
I use the computer most of the time with external keyboard and mouse, which
work grate without problem...
The mouse is connected through the keyboard.
When the mouse have been connected straight it freezes as well, but that
happened couple weeks ago, sine then I have not experienced any freeze.
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2012-12-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
2046, as per http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page? , a
BIOS update is available for your computer (2.07). If you update to
this, does this change anything?
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete
** Description changed:
  On Lenovo Thinkpad L530 with XUBUNTU 12.10 the mouse randomly freezes.
  (this behavior is reported on Thinkpad L520 and some Dell and Asus devices
http://askubuntu.com/questions/127884/touchpad-stops-working-after-suspend-on-lenovo-t520)
  The problem has most likely something to do with this issue
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
  synaptics/+bug/896922 where I have been asked to fire new  report.
  I have tried so far...
  The bug occur on Xubuntu 12.04, CrunchBang(debian) as also Xubuntu 12.10
  I found some advices all around like install the gpointing-device-settings
where some people suggest to turn off "smart mouse selection.. don't remember
exactly the name. This feature is not found on Xubuntu, but Ubuntu.
  I played bit with the settings, nothing helped so far.
  I also tried use sudo modprobe -r psmouse which seams to help a bit from time
to time, but not always..
  Sometimes the mouse is unlocked from the total freeze to a shaky slow moves.
But because this command helps only for touchpads and not external devices, it
is not much of use.. It doesn't solve the problem completely anyway.
  I found the advice here:
http://xpapad.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/dealing-with-mouse-and-touchpad-freezes-in-linux/
  (I got the same errors in log as he mentioned in his post.)
  I also tried disable the touchpad by: xinput -set-prop 'Virtual core XTEST
pointer' 'Device Enabled' 0
  This loges me out of session in an instant.
  I also found a tread where someone suggested update the kernel above
  3.4.8 so I updated the kernel to 3.6.2-030602-generic, but with no luck
  with that either... though I must say the problem occurs "less often".
  Some people say it happens it has something to do with temperature,... or the
fan .. because it happens quite often when they work in bed... it happens to me
in such a cases more often then usual, though it might be just quincidence
..depends where we sit more often :)
  The temperature never went too high.. I think.. it is always about 44-60C
  I have not found any way how to solve this problem, The restart won't help
either.
  Couple more restarts might helps.. if it is related with the heat then it
makes sense .. at least to me.
  thanks for help 2046
Hello,
sorry for the delay.. the thing is that I use these days an external mouse
hooked to external keyboard (Apple Aluminium ) and the mouse doesn't freeze.
I'll definitely test VT-D off end send it once I will work with touchpad more
and longer time.
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2012-11-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
2046, thank you for your comments. Regarding them
>the "apport-collect -p linux 1072672", right?"
No. What is requested is you boot into a Ubuntu kernel. For example, using
Quantal mine is:
uname -a
Linux moniker-PC 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012
i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux
not a mainline one, and then perform apport-collect -p linux 1072672 .
Otherwise, the apport-collect will not gather the desired information.
>"add 2: all the test (text files) I have committed where from the
3.7.0-030700rc2 kernel."
Thank you for clarifying.
same" issue and one guy on the end mentioned: ...After a full upgrade (back to
Turning Vt-D back on in the BIOS recreates the problem. Thanks for posting your
this http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTAzNzk it might be a
Please test toggling the VT-D off in BIOS and report back if this
changes anything.
Thank you for your understanding.
2012-11-05 Thread 2046
add 1:
I'm on 3.6.2-030602-generic and have removed the 3.7.0-030700rc2
So what you want me to do is to install new mainline kernel and try it and send
the "apport-collect -p linux 1072672", right?
add 2: all the test (text files) I have committed where from the
3.7.0-030700rc2 kernel.
add3: nope, it's better then the mainline kernel which has unstable the whole
Xsession.
In other words the problem is still present.
btw I have found a post of a guy who runs the Arch linux on the same hardware
as I have without problem.
http://zenforyen.wordpress.com/2012/07/16/experiences-with-thinkpad-l530-on-arch-linux/
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2012-10-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
2046, thank you for testing the newest mainline kernel. Please answer
the following three questions:
1) Regarding them
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1072672/comments/4
 :
>"ProcEnviron.txt Edit (106 bytes, text/plain)
tags: added: apport-collected
description: updated"
Unfortunately, you were booted into the mainline kernel when you apport
collect'ed, and the desired debug information was not provided. Could you
please boot into the kernel that came from the Ubuntu repositories and then
execute at a terminal:
apport-collect -p linux 1072672
2) Regarding comments https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1072672/comments/5 through
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics/+bug/1072672/comments/9 , could you please comment what kernel
you were booted into specifically when you performed each test?
3) Regarding your current use of kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6.2-quantal/ , this has no mouse or touchpad
freezing problems at all, correct?
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2012-10-29 Thread 2046
This time with the kernel 3.7.0-030700rc2 it was even worst then before.
It works for a while (about an hour-two) then it freezes again. After the
restart the whole X session becomes unresponsive, second restart the same.
Now I'm back on the 3.6.2-030602-generic (this kernel change solved the issue
for now).
When you boot into this kernel, does the mouse still freeze from time to
time?
** Description changed:
  On Lenovo Thinkpad L530 with XUBUNTU 12.10 the mouse randomly freezes.
  (this behavior is reported on Thinkpad L520 and some Dell and Asus devices
http://askubuntu.com/questions/127884/touchpad-stops-working-after-suspend-on-lenovo-t520)
  The problem has most likely something to do with this issue
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
  synaptics/+bug/896922 where I have been asked to fire new  report.
  I have tried so far...
  The bug occur on Xubuntu 12.04, CrunchBang(debian) as also Xubuntu 12.10
  I found some advices all around like install the gpointing-device-settings
where some people suggest to turn off "smart mouse selection.. don't remember
exactly the name. This feature is not found on Xubuntu, but Ubuntu.
  I played bit with the settings, nothing helped so far.
  I also tried use sudo modprobe -r psmouse which seams to help a bit from time
to time, but not always..
  Sometimes the mouse is unlocked from the total freeze to a shaky slow moves.
But because this command helps only for touchpads and not external devices, it
is not much of use.. It doesn't solve the problem completely anyway.
  I found the advice here:
http://xpapad.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/dealing-with-mouse-and-touchpad-freezes-in-linux/
  (I got the same errors in log as he mentioned in his post.)
  I also tried disable the touchpad by: xinput -set-prop 'Virtual core XTEST
pointer' 'Device Enabled' 0
  This loges me out of session in an instant.
  I also found a tread where someone suggested update the kernel above
  3.4.8 so I updated the kernel to 3.6.2-030602-generic, but with no luck
  with that either... though I must say the problem occurs "less often".
  Some people say it happens it has something to do with temperature,... or the
fan .. because it happens quite often when they work in bed... it happens to me
in such a cases more often then usual, though it might be just quincidence
..depends where we sit more often :)
  The temperature never went too high.. I think.. it is always about 44-60C
  I have not found any way how to solve this problem, The restart won't help
either.
  Couple more restarts might helps.. if it is related with the heat then it
makes sense .. at least to me.
[Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2012-10-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
2046, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you
please execute the following in a terminal:
apport-collect -p linux 1072672
As well, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection ?
Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
(v3.7-rc2-raring) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not
test the kernel in the mainline kernels archive directory daily folder, but the
one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please
comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed
in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.7-rc1-quantal
This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing
If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.
