curiogeo writes ([Bug 115676] Re: Couldn't rebuild package cache): What is your analysis and suggestion based on the facts that you have to this point? dpkg --version does nothing except print out the version number. If it coredumps then either (a) your hardware is not working properly now or (b) the files on disk or cached copies in RAM are corrupted which suggests that your hardware was not working properly at some previous point. If you think the problem was transient then you should restore from your backups or reinstall. Otherwise you should starting doing hardware debugging/testing. [Bug 115676] Re: Couldn't rebuild package cache
Please forgive my ignorance on this subject but I have no clue where to begin the hardware testing. My question is 1) Where do I look for support at debugging the hardware? 2) Is this a process from which, in your opinion, there is a safe and attainable solution? 3) It sounds like you feel I have a memory problem? If so are we talking RAM, or fixed storage issues? 4) Based on the line of your advice there is an issue with my hardware that is keeping dpkg from running properly? Thanks for your assistance in this it is very much appreciated. D ps. I'm afraid I don't have the time right now to help you debug your computer. Maybe you can answer where you feel the problem lies and I will take it away from there. Memory or otherwise. This is a core dump of the issue that I get when i run the dpkg --configure -a.
