[Bug 134245] Re: [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use
zcat: This is a common call (Can you package an older version of this (e.g. 96xx) series of NVIDIA binary only drivers?). The answer is almost certainly older versions will not be packaged simply because NVIDIA don't support them. The drivers in question are binary only and as the kernel and Xorg change old drivers simply stop working and can only really be fixed by NVIDIA themselves. NVIDIA only support the latest version of a driver in a given series so if the latest version in the series you use has an issue, your best bet is to report the issue to NVIDIA and hope that they will resolve it... -- [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Do nvidia actually 'support' any of their drivers? Is 7xxx still supported in some way that 96xx is not? -- [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 134245] Re: [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use
zcat: Driver series that NVIDIA considers legacy have received updates that allow them to compile on new kernels and to continue to work on newer X versions in the past. Driver series that were new at the time have seen new features introduced (so whereas the 7xxx drivers have no AIGLX at all the 8xxx drivers saw the start of AIGLX support). I would imagine that the 96xx series will see a similar amount of attention to 7xxx in the future but this is speculation on my part, but NVIDIA might be able to give you a more complete answer. You can try contacting them about this through their forum on http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14 . -- [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Restricted manager is offering me the choice of a driver (nvidia-gxl) that will NOT work with this card, it might as well be offering me the use of the ATI driver. If I install nvidia-glx rather than nvidia-glx-legacy, I will end up with a system than can't be started. Whatever logic in the software decides that ATI drivers are not an appropriate choice for an nVidia TNT2 should aldo decide that that _only_ nvidia-glx-legacy should be offered in this dialog. nvm, I'll check the latest ISO and find more bugs for you all to fix :) -- [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The card I have in this computer is one of those. . It works with nvidia-glx-legacy, but is quite unstable with that driver . It works much better with a manually installed 1.0.9639 driver. Could this driver be separately packaged as nvidia-glx-older or something? Because it's a real pain to manually fix it after each kernel patch. . It does not work at all with any driver after 1.0.9639. . It does not work at all with the nvidia-glx package driver, wich ISTR is 1.0.98?? -- [gutsy] restricted driver manager claims 2 nvidia drivers in use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
