[Bug 1815939] Re: Upgrade to HWE stack fails in make of spl module (zfs)

2019-12-01 Thread Peter de Kraker
Ok, it seems that zfs is just included in the kernel. Also on 18.04 HWE.
I removed zfs-dkms and spl-dkms, and needed to run 'zpool import' after which
my zpool showed up again.

Maybe a good idea to remove those 2 packages while upgrading?

[Bug 1815939] Re: Upgrade to HWE stack fails in make of spl module (zfs)

2019-12-01 Thread Peter de Kraker
I am running into this same error. I have a home server on Ubuntu 18.04
with a raidz2 3 disk ZFS array (not as root filesystem). Today I tried
upgrading to the new HWE kernel, but building failed. It hangs at
'checking spl build directory...'.

There is no 0.7.9 package for ZFS in 18.04. And removing zfs-dkms resulted in
'no datasets available' in 'zfs list' after booting into 5.0.

So, it seems like a no go?

[Bug 1815939] Re: Upgrade to HWE stack fails in make of spl module (zfs)

2019-10-24 Thread BertN45
This is an ancient bug-report on a HW stack upgrade of 18.04, that should have
included an upgrade from ZFS 0.7.5 to 0.7.9. For those older ZFS releases
0.7.x, SPL is still needed. Only at ZFS release 0.8.x SPL has been integrated
into zfsutils-linux.
I think we could say, that this bug-report has died of old age. Nobody will
upgrade the hw stack of 18.04 anymore and the chance, that they also use ZFS is
almost zero.

[Bug 1815939] Re: Upgrade to HWE stack fails in make of spl module (zfs)

2019-10-24 Thread Cornelius
I just noticed that SPL and ZFS is not needed as DKMS with hwe kernels -
I do not know in which version it was included as kernel module.

Simply removing dkms for zfs and spl solved the problem.

apt remove zfs-dkms spl-dkms

(if it is not needed for older kernels)

I have done a fresh install from Xubuntu 18.04.2 and did notice it was
using zfs 0.7.9 with Linux 4.18. So probably you have to add those to
the upgrade of the HWE stack.
