Hi Rob, I examined your dmesg output and it appears the atl1 driver is loading: [ 40.045089] atl1 :02:00.0: version 2.0.7 So this definitely seems odd. Care to maybe attach the dmesg output from one of the successful desktop installations? I'm curious to compare the two. Just to be clear, during the server install where it detects the NIC, the screen goes red and says it can't detect a NIC. Hi Rob, I just chatted with a member of the Ubuntu kernel team. This does not appear to be a kernel bug but rather an issue with the installer. I'm reassigning this to the debian-installer package. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I'm changing the package to linux, which is used to track kernel bugs for linux-source-2.6.24 used on Hardy Heron, as it provides the drivers. Alpha 5 will have a later release of the kernel so if you could test with that and include the full output of 'lspci -vvnn' and 'dmesg' after booting that would be quite helpful. Note: I popped in the 32 bit desktop CD and told it to boot to try rather than install.
