[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
The bug still persists for me. In fact it has worsened after upgrading to jaunty. I usually access the internet from behind a proxy server (in my university). Before 8.04 I could see the weather conditions of both manually added locations and locations which were already in the list. After hardy only locations in the list worked. Now in jaunty none works when I'm working behind a proxy. But it works fine when I'm directly connected to the internet and that too I have only checked for locations in the list (forgot to check for manually added locations ;)). So I'm changing the status beck again to Incomplete. ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Incomplete -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Well, my city (Bangalore/India) is in the list. I somehow always get 27*C / Realfeel 29.5*C, Wind speed 5.1 m/s etc Basically, this information *never* changes. The interesting point, however, is that the icon that shows the weather icon does change intermittently, and possibly, accurately too. It now shows "broken clouds" (which is also what forecastfox plugin in firefox is showing). [Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
I have the same problem as Kimiko Koopman. I am using ubuntu 8.10 (gnome 2.24) and my location is Chandigarh , India. My location is not available in the list of cities so I enter it manually but I don't get the weather info. But, however, if I set the location to New Delhi, India , which is the closest location available in the list, I can see the weather info. I tried using the above solution by Kimiko Koopman but that shows the weather info of New Delhi. In hardy I could see the weather info of any city (that I entered manually), but that is not the case in 8.10- I am able to see info for only those cities which are listed by default. If this is of some help I once found in my ~/.xsession-errors file something regarding "Libgweather: Metadata not found: 403 Forbidden" (Sorry I can't reproduce the exact content as that error disappeared after using the hack by Kimiko Koopman) . -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Oh, I found the solution (which is probably also what I used on the old installation). Using gconf-editor, you can edit the key "/apps/panel/applets/clock_screen0/prefs/cities". The 'code=' field of it was set to '(null)'. After changing that part to 'EHVB', the clock applet now shows both the correct location (Leiden) and weather info (from Valkenburg). Still, there should be an easier way to accomplish this than using gconf-editor. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
The clock doesn't show weather info for me either, even though the checkbox is marked. My city (Leiden, Netherlands) isn't listed, so I have to enter the timezone and coordinates manually. The closest weather info is from Valkenburg, Netherlands, but that info is not shown when I enter my city. Conversely, I do get weather info when I choose Valkenburg, Netherlands, but then I can't change the location name and coordinates anymore. The dialog allows me to edit them, but it simply disregards my edits when I click Okay. The applet should either allow me to specifiy both my own location and the weather info to use, or select the closest weither info automatically. I think this is a regression from some earlier version, because my old installation (upgraded in place over the years from warty or something like that all the way to jaunty) does show both the correct location and weather info. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
sorry, another self-correction. I was testing the day-night dependence with a rain symbol, which in fact is the same at day and night. Sun and moon are correctly switched by coordinate. So, my suggestion boils down to automatically finding the nearest available weather station by coordinate. This should be easy, the coordinates for weather stations are available in Locations.xml. I easily implemented this in a spreadsheet. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
I now understand that the issue I had was not a bug. The showing up of wrong time zones in the dialog is a bug, but not related to the weather issue, at least not on my system. I was assuming that libgweather does some sort of interpolation between known weather stations, using the given coordinates. That is not the case. In fact, changing the coordinates has no effect on the weather, not even the day/night symbols. So the error was, I had not chosen a weather station from the list, just typed in the coordinates, which resulted in not having any weather. So just choose a suitable site from the list and adjust name and coordinates afterwards, then it works. But I still think the applet should at least find the nearest weather station on its own, or even better, interpolate between the nearest ones. Also, the day/night switching of the symbols should absolutely depend on the coordinates. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
I still get this issue in fully updated Hardy. I had the problem with one location in America, my timezone being Europe/Berlin. The German sites had working weather information. However, America/Los Angeles never had any weather information. When I clicked to edit the location, the timezone said Asia/Yekaterinburg. From experimenting I know that the timezones are paired, that is, when I entered Asia/Yekaterinburg, I got America/Los Angeles on next boot. No weather though, also the deviant timezone is only shown in the edit location dialog and only when opened the first time. I tried reinstalling the panel, now I have no weather at all, Europe/Berlin always changing to something else (don’t remember exactly what, remember that it only shows up the first time). -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
I am not sure, but for me it seems to be one problem. The gnome-clock-applet does not show the icons for weather and temperature until I change the setting for the clock-applet (timezone), but after a reboot the settings are set to something different. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If I do a reboot of my machine, the timezone settings changed to America / Dawson and does not show Europe / Berlin. [Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Before the updates, the timezone for my city was set wrong (for Guetersloh -> Europe / Amsterdam). After the update, no weather information were shown. So I've simply choose Guetersloh again from the list of cities and everything works well (also after restart). So I think it is a big because of the updates and does not appear again. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Indeed, my time zone wasn't set. and this seems to have fixed it, thanks Timo! I haven't rebooted as yet, so I don't now if the fix will stay. I'll report it if I observe further problems. By the way, the resetting of the time zone that Timo reports may be related to bug #210561. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Martin, just check if the timezone information is correct. Actually it is not saved after reboot. I have to set the timezone every time I log in. If I change it, I can seealso the weather and temperature icons in the panel. ** Attachment added: "Bildschirmfoto-gnome-panel.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13406107/Bildschirmfoto-gnome-panel.png -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Unfortunately, kmon's approach didn't work for me (Hardy beta, last updated yesterday). As shown in the attachment, the applet is actually able to download and display weather information, but not directly on the panel. "Show weather" and "Show temperature" are both checked in my preferences. ** Attachment added: "Clock applet shows weather info on a tooltip, but not on the panel" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13405952/Screenshot.png -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I do not use the network-manager. I am using wicd. I will startup the network manually and so I do not have a connection on startup. after a restart of gnome, I do not have the icons back. But I have seen, that my location was not correct. I am living in Germany so I used Europe/Berlin as zone, but it was not set correctly. [Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Hi Yes, I use network manager. My internet access is working berfore gnome- panel starts. I get weather reports on my locations, but it seems that I the Home location is not remembered anymore after the updates. If I set the home location and re-login the bug reapperars and in the clock applet I can only see the date/time. Once I set my home location the weather info appears at the left of the date/time. thanks -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Thank you for your bug report. Do you use network-manager? Is you internet access working before the gnome-panel start? Do you get the weather informations after a while? I've fixed the issue by removing the applet, reinstalling the gnome- applets & gnome-applets-data packages, and adding the clock applet again (setting my home location again). hope this helps -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
