Hi Guys, xdevent, since you are the orignal bug reporter and have confirmed this is resolved for 2.6.27 (and since Adrian no longer has the hardware), lets go ahead and mark this Fix Released for Intrepid. Thanks. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- Hardy hangs while using the pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi all! I've finally bought a new laptop and gave away mine, so I didn't had a chance to test the new kernel on that one. I'll be contributing now with the new one, which has it's own compatibility problems :S. At least it doesn't hang, so for me this issue is over. -- Hardy hangs while using the pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi everybody, I'm happy to announce that the Intrepid Beta with kernel 2.6.27 doesn't hang :) In my opinion, i can say that this bug is finnally (in this kernel version) solved. Let's have a look with Adrian, if he has any problems or not. [Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Finally, I'm sure that the problem has no relation with the graphic card driver, because vesa and nv still hang the pc. About Intrepid kernel (2.6.26): The hang is more radical. It hangs at the start of the computer. No possibility to do something with the desktop live-cd too. -- Hardy hangs while using the pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- Hardy hangs while using the pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi guys. Just an update: I tryed lastest Nvidia Driver, 173.14.12 with no success. The system still hangs after a random ammount of time. I decided to try intrepid alpha 3. After update, I could not be able to log in to the system using kernel 2.6.26. I get a complete freeze. I have to boot with 2.6.24. I'll be testing the repositories driver. @ Adrian: With the generic graphics card driver (nv) your computer doesn't freeze? Because I remember that I used the generic card driver and my computer freezed too. @ Leann: Thanks for the advertisement. I want to try too the linux- image-2.6.25 package form the intrepid repositories, but it isn't published yet. Eh, I forgot to say something. I don't have all the factory default hardware of the laptop. My hard drive died few months ago, so I changed it. The new one is a Samsung HM120JI Serial ATA 100 GB. [Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi, I just wanted to add that today I tryed the Nvidia 173.14.05 driver without any results, the computer hangs completly as usual. I had to go back to the generic driver. I'm using kernel 2.6.24-19-generic. Have any of you guys found a workaround for this issue? I haven't been able yet to enjoy linux graphics effects on the desktops (on the job I have an OpenChrome video card that sucks). I'll be reading Nvidia forums to see what I can find. @xdevent: did you tryed the 2.6.25 or 26 kernel? [Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi everyone. I have the same problem with my Hardy on a Presario F562LA, it just freeze completely after a random amount of time. For me, I have notice that happens mostly when browsing the web in firefox. I tryed removing the Nvidia driver I got with ENVY, and it seems to be working normally again. It comes to my attention that both laptops have the Nvidia GeForce 6100. Could there be any relationship with this driver? Which driver are you using xdevent? Have you tried working with generics video drivers just for the test? Also, do you get the BIOS BUG #81[XX] error on startup? [Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi again Adrian, Finally I think that doesn't matter where we are doing at the pc for this problem: last day, my computer freezed a few . So, I think that it's absolutely randomly. Probably that you say is the most sure option that we have for the moment. I have the latest NVIDIA driver from hardy repositories. While the time I was using Feisty Fawn, i used the driver on Feisty Fawn repositories. But i have something to say in that: i think mostly the problem is the kernel, because if only is the nvidia driver, my computer won't freeze COMPLETELY. For example: the fan never shutdown itself in this state, the lights remain all the time in the state before the oops... And i had problems with the gutsy kernel before, so i think that it can be a problem of the older kernel release not solved at all. Probably is a compatibility problem with the nvidia card. Also, can you see if we have more hardware in common? Like wifi cards or this stuff? Something more to say: i have the same problem in the x86 version of hardy and in tha amd_64 version too. And yes, I have too the bug BIOS BUG #81 error in startup :-) -- Hardy hangs while using the pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
No more hardware in common, as my wireless is a Broadcom 4311 wich I finally manage to install with NDIWrapper. Could you please post the results you get with the mentioned kernel update? I don't know if I'll have time today to make the test but if I get some time I'll try with that too and see how it goes. I also readed that it could be a problem with ACPI or something. -- Hardy hangs while using the pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225484 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 225484] Re: Hardy hangs while using the pc
Hi xdevent, Just to see if it makes a difference, care to test the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel? It was most recently rebased with the upstream 2.6.25 kernel and is currently available in the following PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA basically do the following . . . Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the following two lines: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main Then run the command: sudo apt-get update You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel package. After you've finished testing you can remove the kernel- ppa.list file and run 'sudo apt-get update' once more. Please let us know your results. Same for me. Dell XPS 1330, Ubuntu Hardy hangs randomly. Mouse pointer still active but nothing is clickable or commandable through the keyboard. Hi xdevent, Do you notice any sort of kernel oops or panic? I assume the only way to recover is to shutdown the system?
