[Bug 227149] Re: USB Wireless zd1211 based not working in hardy's kernel

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

2008-08-02 Thread Denis Rut'kov
I have this bug too.
When zd1211rw module is loaded, I have a eth1 interface. I can configure it
freely, but I cannot establish a conection.
Switching to ndiswrapper driver helps: I get a wlan0 interface and the
connection works (at least in 802.11b mode).
Dmesg  output is attached.

2008-07-02 Thread Carlos Barros
Hi guys.

i was working on this. i have about 4 kernel updates in the past 2
months (2.6.24.16 to 2.6.24.19) and nothing solve the problem.

I'd tried to use the upcoming ubuntu 8.10 beta kernel 2.6.25 and i just
broke my instalation. The problem still present.

someone has been able to solve the problem in any way different from use
the ndiswrapper and the windows drivers? I mean, that way it works, but
have a poor performance and some sporadic disconnections.

i will appreciate someone with more knowledge and experience gets
involve on this issue and maybe give us some light to solve it.

by the way. it is the lsusb from my system using the 2.6.24.19 kernel.

2008-05-28 Thread robertmartin
Same problem: ZyXEL G-220-v2 USB wireless worked in Ubuntu 7.10
but not in booting up 8.04 Live CD. I use WPA2 encryption.
It appears to associate with AP but cannnot ping it, and wpa_cli output
indicates it loses connection:

=== wpa_cli ===
# wpa_cli status
Selected interface 'eth1'
bssid=00:13:10:[xx.xx.xx]
ssid=mySSID
id=0
pairwise_cipher=CCMP
group_cipher=CCMP
key_mgmt=WPA2-PSK
wpa_state=4WAY_HANDSHAKE

But then, immediately issue a second wpa_cli:
# wpa_cli status
Selected interface 'eth1'
wpa_state=ASSOCIATING

Successive invocations of wpa_cli give the same result.

Some more maybe useful data:

[Bug 227149] Re: USB Wireless zd1211 based not working in hardy's kernel

2008-05-19 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Guys,

Just to see if it makes a difference, care to test the upcoming Intrepid
Ibex 8.10 kernel? It was most recently rebased with the upstream 2.6.25
kernel and is currently available in the following PPA:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive

If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA
basically do the following . . .

Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the
following two lines:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Then run the command: sudo apt-get update

You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel
package. After you've finished testing you can remove the kernel-
ppa.list file and run 'sudo apt-get update' once more. Please let us
know your results.  Thanks

[Bug 227149] Re: USB Wireless zd1211 based not working in hardy's kernel

2008-05-16 Thread stek79
Hello, I have the same problem.

USB wireless with zd1211rw driver, statically configured wireless
network - no NetworkManager.

Randomly at boots I get the 'link not ready message' and the network is
down. Other times it works just fine. I had no problem with Gutsy, now
I'm using Hardy with all updates applied.

One important note: when at boot the network is down, in order to bring
it up I have found that the two following commands usually works:

sudo ifdown eth1
sudo ifup eth1

I've tried to add those commands to my rc.local file, but the situation
didn't get any better.

Please let us know if you want any other detail.

Dmesg is attached, lsusb:
