[Bug 243786] Re: Wrong resolution for LG L1510S monitor
I've found the root cause of my problems. My grub installation is on another partition and I hadn't updated it after upgrading to Hardy. My kernel should have been 2.4.26-19. This was causing a conflict loading GLX : (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found) which caused fallback to the VESA driver. So I think you can close this bug. Interestingly, while doing all this rebooting and reconfiguring at one point I used Screen Resolution and was offered a large set of choices which included 1280x960. I selected it fully expecting the usual failure to start X and nearly fell off my chair when it worked. Screen Resolution doesn't offer me that option now and my monitors max resolution is supposed to be 1024x768. Thanks for your help. [Bug 243786] Re: Wrong resolution for LG L1510S monitor
I notice that your xorg.conf contains lots of modelines for your monitor. You should no longer need these in Hardy, as Xorg should autodetect the optimum settings for your display. Indeed, from the information you have posted, I am confident that your monitor will be correctly detected without these modelines defined in your Xorg configuration. By default, Hardy ships with a minimal Xorg configuration, and I would like you to try the minimal config. Could you please run the following in a terminal: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg This will re-create the default (minimal) xorg.conf file. As you are running the NVIDIA binary drivers, you will still need to add the following line to the 'Device' section of your new xorg.conf: 'Driver "nvidia"' Note that the above line is normally added automatically when you install the drivers using the Restricted Drivers Manager. You only need to add this line manually when the xorg.conf file is recreated in this way. Please let me know how it goes Thanks -- Wrong resolution for LG L1510S monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/243786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
