[Bug 537448] Re: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver)
First work around worked. I also had a problem with changes not being there after a reboot so I used the analyser's ability to generate a script (after using the interface to set 0x19 widget control vref to HIZ) and then made the script run on start up (I saved the script in /etc/init.d/soundSet): sudo update-rc.d -f soundSet start 99 2 3 4 5 . Sound works every time now. Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 Title: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/537448/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm using the PPA for ubuntu-audio-dev with the linux-alsa-driver- modules-2.6.32 and haven't had a single problem (sound-related that is) ever since. :) No need to edit any values inside the HDA_Analyzer or stuff like that. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/ppa -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 Title: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/537448/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think I love you (if you're a man, know that it is a pure non-homo love :D). Work around #1 worked like a charm. The moment I switched to HIZ the beautiful sound of Mr. Mozart started pouring out of my speakers, for I was testing my audio with a track from this great genius. So thank you very much and wish you best of luck and keep helping poor buggers like me. :D Btw I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx on a Sony Vaio VPCEB3M1E (uncle Google can show you the specs ;)). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 Title: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 537448] Re: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver)
@ff670099 See Daniel T Chen's comment#97 Here is the link to the ppa with instructions how to add it: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/ppa Once you add the ppa install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) package, e.g. linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-22-generic and reboot. Sound should be working after that. This workaround works fine and we'll have to use it since the update of http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/alsa-base to version 1.0.23 (which has the fix) may take a while. Hi gokul, If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. [Bug 537448] Re: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver)
I think there is some problem with hda-analyzer 's revert feature or I don't know if some settings are automatically applied. Node 0x19 had changed from HIZ to 80 after a reboot and there was no sound in either the builtin speaker or the the headphone jack. I had to change IN on Node 0x19 to HIZ or GRD, and now the builtin speakers and headphone jack are both functional and the speakers are automatically OFF when the headphone jack is plugged-in. (along with changes to Node 0x14 and 0x15 mentioned in comment #50) Intuitively and by the observed behavior, Node 0x14 is the builtin left speaker out and 0x15 is the right speaker out. After a second reboot, I have observed that Node 0x19's IN does revert back to 80 instead of staying as HIZ/GRD. -- No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, as far as the speakers go, sound reproduction is bad and my left one is already bust I think - it fizzles at 80% (windows 7 terminology) volume. Another observation, playing around with an external speaker sometimes freezes my USB devices. Not sure if this also related to [#532095]. Will add this comment there too. running multiple sound apps at one time introduces noise (fizzling/buzz). Another note: Chromium and totem played the same .flv file (go to youtube, play a video in chromium (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Vbs84MziYfeature=related) and play the temporary file corresponding to that ( /tmp/Flash*) in totem): * totem plays it as mono * chromium plays in stereo * Starting totem (along side chromium) introduces noise, stopping totem restores clarity to chromium's playback (I am not talking about sounds overlapping, this is white noise) -- the streams appear to be interleaved and correspondingly tempo is halved -- and girl sounds like a guy etc. * Stopping playback in chromium does not restore full clarity, totem still has residual noise but tempo appears to be restored * closing chromium and restarting totem restores clarity to totem playback. * if totem plays first and chromium starts after, all symptoms are inverted except that stopping playback in totem fully restores chromium's playback clarity. pavucontrol says chromium uses ALSA playback whereas totem is reported as using Playback stream. -- No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have been able to get sound from the headphone jack by specifying model=generic in /etc/modprobe.conf/alsa-base.conf Others have as well. See ALSA bug referenced above. I think a new ALSA model patch is going to have to be created for Sony VPCEBs. -- No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Confirmed. Thanks rvaliant. [Bug 537448] Re: No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver, Karmic)
Among the many troubleshooting things I did, I modified the /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf file. And I committed the sin of not taking a backup of that file. I would like to restore that file to the the original state. What package or configuration utility can do that for me? -- No sound in sony vaio VPCEB16FG (Realtek ALC269, snd-hda-intel driver, Karmic) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
