[Bug 546789] Re: Simple scan can't see my printer (scanner), it just see my web cam.
I am not sure if this is the best way to handle this bug, but let's try: I am going to close this bug, and should you experience this bug, please file a new report. While it is the same symptom (webcam is detected, scanner not so) there seem to be varying underlying reasons, like permission problems (well known problem with sane) and missing drivers (other well known problem). ** Changed in: simple-scan (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid ** Changed in: simple-scan Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546789 Title: Simple scan can't see my printer (scanner), it just see my web cam. [Bug 546789] Re: Simple scan can't see my printer (scanner), it just see my web cam.
Hi, I can confirm Rodrigo Alvarez' post #16 with Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) and a Brother DCP-165C. Printing works, but I could not get simple-scan, XSane or Scanlite to work from the Applications menu or from the terminal. Running simple-scan with sudo works like a charm, on the other hand. Trying to scan using a cannon MP160 reports unable to connect to the scanner. If I run sudo simple-scan -d it works beautifully, suggesting there are permission issues somewhere. [Bug 546789] Re: Simple scan can't see my printer (scanner), it just see my web cam.
This might not have been the right bug - but anyway simple-scan was complaining about a missing HP plugin. From hplip-gui there is an option to in the device manager Install Required Plugin. This failed with what looks like a permission problem. So I ran it from the command line sudo hp-plugin that seemed to succeed and I can scan now. However, from the hplip-gui it still syas the plugin is missing, though it did seem to install from the command line. -- Simple scan can't see my printer (scanner), it just see my web cam. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In all three cases please attach the output of simple-scan -d, this will show the communication between simple-scan and your scanner. I have an HP Pavilion dv5 with an integrated webcam. This issue affects Karmic and Lucid beta2. I have a Lexmark x5650 that works perfectly on another machine with Lucid beta2.
