[Bug 549585] Re: Wlan connection peridically lost (set_device_state error)

2010-10-01 Thread Peter Lemieux
I installed the 9/28 daily build of Maverick Meerkat with
2.6.35-22-generic, and this problem appears resolved. My machine has
been up for well over twenty-four hours at 54 mbit. Thanks to the
developers for fixing this problem. Let's hope it doesn't rear its ugly
head again.

[Bug 549585] Re: Wlan connection peridically lost (set_device_state error)

2010-09-17 Thread Peter Lemieux
Looking at my logs, it appears to be another incarnation of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/548992";>548992.
I see many "deauthenticated from [router MAC] (Reason: 7)" errors in
/var/log/syslog. A quick Google search for 'deauthenticated reason 7'
shows people reporting this problem on various distributions as far back
as 2008. Unfortunately obscure error messages like "reason 7" don't
really give me much information to go on. I browsed a few of the items
that came up on Google but didn't see much that told me what reason 7
might be. I guess I could go browse the kernel source to try and figure
this out, but frankly that's more work than simply reverting back a
minor kernel upgrade.

@Peter: What is the error message you get in dmesg? I'm asking this
because this bug is about rt2500 loosing (or not getting at all) the
connection to the router and re-connections were not even possible (if I
remember well). Thanks in advance!

2010-09-16 Thread Peter Lemieux
This problem appeared resolved in Maverick kernel 2.6.35-20-generic but
has reappeared in this week's 2.6.35-21-generic release. Reverting back
to -20 provides a stable connection. In -21 I get repeated
disconnections and re-connections even while simply browsing web pages.

papukaija,
Please note that the backported kernel will only be supported on the server

Thanks!

[Bug 549585] Re: Wlan connection peridically lost (set_device_state error)

2010-06-04 Thread papukaija
I am closing this bug because the bug has been fixed in the latest
development version of Ubuntu - Maverick Meerkat a sit includes 2.6.34
(2.6.34-5.12). A backport request has been requested for 2.6.34 kernel
in bug 589678. If the request is rejected, then wait for stable maverick
or use this workaround: Add "wlan0 power off" to your rc.local file (use
google to get instructions to use that file).

@Ludio: The attached patch is downloaded from kernel.org and I think
that it is creted against the 2.6.33 mainline kernel. However, I see no
reason that this patch would not work in 2.6.32.

[Bug 549585] Re: Wlan connection peridically lost (set_device_state error)

2010-05-16 Thread Ludio
I have tried to patch the rt2500usb.c myself but it appears that
"rt2x00dev->hw->wiphy->flags" flags is not a valid value. What version of the
rt2500usb.c and headers are needed? I am running Linux 2.6.32-22-generic
#33-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux
can this version be patched or do I need to download the 2.6.34 kernel?

Thanks for any information.

[Bug 549585] Re: Wlan connection peridically lost (set_device_state error)

2010-04-11 Thread papukaija
** Description changed:

I'm running Lucid Beta and my wlan connection is periodically lost. For
the two first times it happened after about 1h but on the third time it
happenend after 30 mins. On the fourth time it happened after 10 mins.
The problem doesn't come from the router since the other pcs can connect
to it normally. My wlan card is Asus wl-167g (usb with rt2500 kernel
