[Bug 646634] Re: Firefox incorrectly uses the window title as the application title in Gnome 3

2011-11-04 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I'm
going to close this bug since the first stable release of gnome-shell
wasn't until April 2011. Since the code has changed considerably since
the preview version available in the Ubuntu 10.10 archives, I don't
believe anyone will be interested in trying to fix this bug.

Also, the Firefox title bar seems to work correctly here in Ubuntu
11.10, the first Ubuntu release to have a stable GNOME Shell available
in the repositories.

[Bug 646634] Re: Firefox incorrectly uses the window title as the application title in Gnome 3

2010-09-24 Thread Chris Coulson
I'm not convinced this is a Firefox bug. Firefox sets WM_NAME to the the
string it wants to be in the titlebar (which is correct, and also what
every other application is doing). The applications aren't setting any
super name or application title as you call it, but gnome-shell
looks like it is matching windows to desktop files, and using the name
in the desktop file to display in the panel.

However, the matching fails for Firefox for some reason. Other things
like Docky correctly match Firefox windows to its desktop file, so I'm
reassigning it back to gnome-shell

Ah, I see now, thanks. So, what I called the 'application title' is in
the .desktop files and gnome-panel isn't matching Firefox correctly.
