[Bug 653266] Re: [Realtek ALC272X] Recording problem

2010-10-23 Thread Hari Siswantoro
I have the same problem on Acer Ferrari One 200 running ubuntu 10.10
x86_64.

But, the mic is working flawlessly when I run live-usb 10.10 i386 (32
bit). So, I guess there is a problem with the 64 bit version, either the
alsa or pulseaudio (I am not sure). I won't switch to 32 bit kernel,
since I won't get the optimal power of my machine. And I hope that there
is somebody can fix this problem.

@Luke: there is no "acer" model in ALC272 section. Here is the available model:

[Bug 653266] Re: [Realtek ALC272X] Recording problem

2010-10-07 Thread Neetesh Biswas
I have the same problem with Acer Aspire 5517. I am experiencing this
problem from ubuntu 10.04 and it still persists in 10.10.

I also tried to add the line as suggested by Luke, unfortunately it
didn't help.

This issue is not related to suspend/resume.

As pointed out by brittyboi, when I unmute mic in alsamixer, I can hear
my own voice.

I have had some luck being able to get sound out of my mic initially
after I reboot my computer, but if I open a program or do anything can
can actually utilize the mic it immediately shuts off and no matter what

Is this issue suspend/resume related? I e, if you fully turn off your
computer, then turn it on again, does it work reliably (until you
suspend/close the lid/etc)?

[Bug 653266] Re: [Realtek ALC272X] Recording problem

2010-10-04 Thread brittyboi
I did that and it did not solve the isse. The issue is not with ALSA
though, I can get sound out of my mic using alsamixer, the problem I
believe is with pulseaudio. I dont think that pulseaudio is using the
right alsa mic as the mic for pulseaudio. In alsa mixer i unmuted "mic"
to hear myself. But the mute/unmute that coresponds to the settings for
pulseaudio is for something else. Meaning when i unmute the "mic" in the
sound menu in ubuntu, it simultaneously unmutes the "recorder" setting
in alsamixer, rather than the "mic" one.

2010-10-04 Thread Luke Yelavich
Please open /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf in an editor, as root/using
sudo. Add the following line to the bottom of the file:

options snd-hda-intel model=acer

Save the file, and reboot. Please report back as to whether this fixes your
microphone issues.

[Bug 653266] Re: [Realtek ALC272X] Recording problem

2010-10-01 Thread brittyboi
I have figured out this problem is with Pulseaudio. Alsamixer lets me
hear sound out of my speakers from my mic when I unmute it, and there
are times when I can actually get sound to show in the sound menu and in
skype, BUT then is shuts off and while alsamixer will still let me hear
sound from my mic, the sound menu will now no longer show any sound. It
is bizzar
