[Bug 810976] Re: Fn keys don't work on Samsung X65
They worked fine in Windows before I installed Ubuntu over the default Windows install. I don't have it dual boot so I'm unable to confirm this now. They have never worked on any version of Ubuntu, going back to 8.04. I suspect a broken set of ACPI tables that don't work on Linux, not a surprise as Samsung don't support Linux on any of their machines. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810976 Title: Fn keys don't work on Samsung X65 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/810976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 810976] Re: Fn keys don't work on Samsung X65
MarkS, have you tried searching through your BIOS options in case there is a setting affecting the default function of the Function key? I had a similar problem on my Dell laptop and as it turns out a BIOS switch was toggled that reversed the default function of the Fn key. Is that a regression? Have you tried a previous Ubuntu version that works? Does the same problem now affect e.g. Windows (if you have them installed)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810976 Title: Fn keys don't work on Samsung X65 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/810976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected precise ** Description changed: Reference bug #442320 marked at Won't fix on Karmic. Issue still exists on 10.04.2 LTS. I have a Samsung X65 laptop running Karmic, everything seems to work OK except for a few of the special blue Fn keys, specifically the battery status, screen switch, and the Samsung special Magic Doctor key. Running xev, the keys don't even report events to the X server so this appears to be a hardware management issue. [Bug 810976] Re: Fn keys don't work on Samsung X65
MarkS, thank you for testing the mainline kernel. Could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTesting/Keycodes ?
MarkS, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810976 Title: Fn keys don't work on Samsung X65 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/810976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
