This won't be resolved against 2.6.22. Please reopen against Hardy if the patch upstream gets merged. [Bug 83984] Re: Edgy does not respond to USB Devices
hi guys, if you people still have this issue (and you probably do, unless you bought another pc) I have news: there is a fix: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8896 in comment #127 and comment #128 (specifically #128 is the most important, the other can be emulated using acpi=force). Now, the problem is you'll have to patch your kernel manually, because they're not willing to patch the kernel sources as they're "ugly hack". As people working on this bug were a few, and the original reporter bought a new pc, the only thing we could do (apart from patching our kernels on our own) is asking for this patch to be committed. My suggestion is for you people to register on bugzilla and comment on this bug. [Bug 83984] Re: Edgy does not respond to USB Devices
Please see this thread--> http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=348987 I have the exact same laptop as the guy in that thread. In the thread I posted in Ubuntu Forums, I also found the solution ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=356269&page=2 ) The problem is that, the solution, which is booting on acpi=noirq, makes the USB work but there is a side effect. The Wireless LAN of BenQ Joybook R31E stops working. I hope there is type of boot that will solve this. If there is none, I hope this works on Feisty. -- Edgy does not respond to USB Devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/83984 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 83984] Re: Edgy does not respond to USB Devices
For some reason, when I booted my laptop a while ago with my USB mouse plugged, the mouse worked again although it didn't really work properly because the mouse pointer responded very slowly. I tried lsusb code: Bus 004 Device 001: ID : Bus 003 Device 001: ID : Bus 002 Device 002: ID 15ca:00c3 Bus 002 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 001: ID : Then, I tried if my Flash drive will work this time. I plugged it and tried lsusb again but the output code was the same as above. -- Edgy does not respond to USB Devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/83984 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83984] Re: Edgy does not respond to USB Devices
Thank you for the response Brian Murray. I edited the original post and added information. Sorry if the codes were very long. I did not know what I could omit. By the way, I entered all those codes with my USB Mouse and my Kingston Flash drive plugged since before I booted my laptop. -- Edgy does not respond to USB Devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/83984 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 83984] Re: Edgy does not respond to USB Devices
** Description changed: The Problem Kubuntu/Ubuntu Edgy Eft does not respond whenever I plug a USB device (except for my USB mouse which barely worked). The Peripherals I tried I tried a USB Mouse. Whenever I plugged it after booting my laptop, Edgy does not respond at all. The mouse lights up so I believe it is properly connected. Whenever it is plugged since my laptop is booted, it works but the mouse pointer responds very very slowly. + + Edit: I just tried my USB mouse again by booting my laptop with the + mouse plugged. Before Ubuntu was loaded, the red light (since it is an + optical mouse) was lighting up, but when Ubuntu was loaded, the red + light turned of and of course, the mouse did not even work. I tried my EPSON Stylus C43 UX Printer, Canon PIXMA MP150 Printer/Scanner, Kingston DataTraveller USB Flash drive, Memory Card Reader, and Logitech Quickcam Orbit Webcam; but Ubuntu/Kubuntu Edgy Eft did not respond with any of them. The Machine I encountered the problem with I have a Joybook R31E laptop running Kubuntu/Ubuntu Edgy Eft. I believe that it should have worked with my Epson Stylus C43UX Printer since there was a driver available in Edgy by default. As for my Canon PIXMA MP150 and my Logitech Quickcam Orbit Webcam, I still need to hunt for drivers so I do not really expect my machine to work with it well. I am dual-booting this with Windows and all my peripherals work with it so I do not think I am having a USB slot problem. What I have tried I have tried lsusb with my Kingston USB Flash Drive Device and my USB mouse plugged (I just plugged both of them after booting) and the output was Code: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsusb Bus 004 Device 001: ID : Bus 003 Device 001: ID : Bus 002 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 001: ID : Note: I don't know if this would be a significant information but it took about 30 seconds for Konsole to show the output of the code + + dmesg + + Code: + [17179569.184000] Linux version 2.6.17-10-generic ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.1.2 20060928 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.1.1-13ubuntu5)) #2 SMP Tue Dec 5 22:28:26 UTC 2006 (Ubuntu 2.6.17-10.34-generic) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-provided physical RAM map: + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: - 0009fc00 (usable) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: 0009fc00 - 000a (reserved) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: 000e - 0010 (reserved) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: 0010 - 1bfef000 (usable) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: 1bff - 1bc0 (ACPI data) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: 1bc0 - 1c00 (ACPI NVS) + [17179569.184000] BIOS-e820: fff8 - 0001 (reserved) + [17179569.184000] 0MB HIGHMEM available. + [17179569.184000] 447MB LOWMEM available. + [17179569.184000] On node 0 totalpages: 114671 + [17179569.184000] DMA zone: 4096 pages, LIFO batch:0 + [17179569.184000] Normal zone: 110575 pages, LIFO batch:31 + [17179569.184000] DMI 2.3 present. + [17179569.184000] ACPI: RSDP (v000 OID_00) @ 0x000e6010 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: RSDT (v001 INSYDE FACP_000 0x0100 0x00010200) @ 0x1bffc280 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: FADT (v001 INSYDE FACP_000 0x0100 0x00010200) @ 0x1bfffb00 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: MADT (v001 INSYDE APIC_000 0x30303030 0x00010200) @ 0x1bfffb90 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: DSDT (v001 INSYDEPN800 0x1000 INTL 0x02002036) @ 0x + [17179569.184000] ACPI: PM-Timer IO Port: 0x1008 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: Local APIC address 0xfee0 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: LAPIC (acpi_id[0x00] lapic_id[0x00] enabled) + [17179569.184000] Processor #0 6:13 APIC version 20 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: LAPIC (acpi_id[0x01] lapic_id[0x01] disabled) + [17179569.184000] ACPI: LAPIC_NMI (acpi_id[0x00] high edge lint[0x1]) + [17179569.184000] ACPI: LAPIC_NMI (acpi_id[0x01] high edge lint[0x1]) + [17179569.184000] ACPI: IOAPIC (id[0x02] address[0xfec0] gsi_base[0]) + [17179569.184000] IOAPIC[0]: apic_id 2, version 3, address 0xfec0, GSI 0-23 + [17179569.184000] ACPI: INT_SRC_OVR (bus 0 bus_irq 0 global_irq 2 dfl dfl) + [17179569.184000] ACPI: INT_SRC_OVR (bus 0 bus_irq 9 global_irq 9 low level) + [17179569.184000] ACPI: IRQ0 used by override. + [17179569.184000] ACPI: IRQ2 used by override. + [17179569.184000] ACPI: IRQ9 used by override. + [17179569.184000] Enabling APIC mode: Flat.
