[Bug 130368] RFE: add an item to options menu to start onscreen keyboard
Public bug reported: At the gdm login screen, there is an Options menu, that enables users to change their keyboard and language settings. I would suggest to add an item to this menu to start the onscreen keyboard that is shipped with ubuntu and that is called onboard. This would be welcome for people that only have the pointer as input. (for example tabletpc users or disabled users) Appearantly, some people have onboard running at the login screen by applying a little hack: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=267051 Consequently, I hoped that making it appear using an additional item in the Options menu will not be very difficult. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- RFE: add an item to options menu to start onscreen keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 35501] Re: screensaver make crash GDM
I'am using the gutsy release and I have find a workaround for this bugs. xgl-xserver in not involved, it was gnome-screensaver the accountable. In fact, the XGL in on the display :1.0, and gnome-screensaver in on the display :0.0. So when you call gnome-screensaver-preferences, he is called from :1.0, it cause the segfault. If you run: #:-$> DISPLAY=:0.0 gnome-screensaver-preferences the window appear but with no border. The good way it to use gnome- screensaver-preferences with the sync option: #:-$> gnome-screensaver-preferences --sync A note for the Gutsy: In the latest gutsy upgrade 's, the solution found for solve this is to run gnome-screensaver daemon on the current display, so :1.0 (I'am using XGL on an ATI X14OO video card whith the fglrx driver). the gnome-screensaver-preferences running fine, because the panel and the daemon are on the same display :1.0. The old solution to run gnome-screensaver on display :0.0 is better for performance and CPU consumption, because running opengl program on XGL is not a good idea (with fglrx driver). I have modifier the launcher for gnome-screensaver-preferences by adding the --sync option and gnome-screensaver with --disply=:0.0. -- screensaver make crash GDM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35501 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 130376] crash while checking MD5sums on include list
Public bug reported: The build machine behind cdimage.ubuntu.com was recently upgraded to edgy/amd64. While testing the new system, I found that mkisofs segfaulted while trying to build Ubuntu alternate install CD images. Investigation showed that this is due to incorrect linked list code used while constructing the JTE include and exclude lists for jigdo file generation. This is unlikely to affect normal users of mkisofs, but affects those trying to build Debian or Ubuntu CD images. I would like to propose this for a stable release update in order to fix Ubuntu's production CD image building system without the need for a local build of mkisofs. This is also Debian bug 411873, and I've sent a patch there to fix the linked list generation. I have applied this patch in cdrkit 9:1.1.6-1ubuntu1 in gutsy. Corresponding patches against edgy and feisty are attached here. Since the crash is rather dependent on precise details of stack layout, it's not necessarily easy to reproduce directly. However, valgrind picks it up with no trouble. Steps to reproduce on an edgy system with mkisofs and valgrind installed (for feisty and gutsy, substitute "genisoimage" for "mkisofs" throughout: mkdir -p /tmp/mkisofs-test cd /tmp/mkisofs-test mkdir -p t/pool dd if=/dev/zero of=t/file bs=1024 count=100 touch md5 valgrind mkisofs -o t.iso -jigdo-jigdo t.jigdo -jigdo-template t.template -md5-list md5 -jigdo-force-md5 /pool/ t The output will contain an error similar to the following (exact numbers are unimportant): ==8624== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s) ==8624==at 0x42BB38: (within /usr/bin/mkisofs) ==8624==by 0x40E7D6: (within /usr/bin/mkisofs) ==8624==by 0x40EBD9: (within /usr/bin/mkisofs) ==8624==by 0x40460E: main (in /usr/bin/mkisofs) ==8624==by 0x4C570C3: (below main) (in /lib/libc-2.4.so) The patch affects only JTE code, so (barring regressions due simply to rebuilding cdrtools), other uses of mkisofs will not be affected. Thank you for your bug report. I am afraid it is not the translation team's fault. I suspect it is an upstream (most likely Debian) bug or a bug related to migrating data from Debian to Ubuntu. [Bug 70590] Re: Shares do not get unshared but user is unaware
I right-click on a folder in nautilus, select "share folder" (notice that my desktop is in italian, so the english version might differ) and choose a name for the folder. Then in nautilus I go to smb://localhost and I see the folder. Then I go to system/administration/shared folders and see the folder. Then right-click on it in nautilus, select "share folder" and "do not share". The folder disappears from system/administration/shared folders, however in nautilus I can still go to "smb://localhost" and use it. If I unshare it directly from "system/administration" it gets unshared correctly so the bug should be in the nautilus plugin. Moreover, if I share a folder from nautilus while keeping the system/administration window opened, lines are added in smb.conf but the folder is not visible in smb://localhost. The same happens when I unshare it: it is no longer present in smb.conf but it is visible in smb://localhost, so the point seems to be that the nautilus plugins should tell samba to reload its configuration after changing it. -- Shares do not get unshared but user is unaware https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70590 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 130379] movie/visual effects screen turns black while playing a movie / song
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, Totem 2.18.1. I downloaded all the GStreamer plugins I could find, to watch MPEG and WMV files. Most of the times, I can see only the first frame or so of the movie, after that the screen turns black and there's only audio. When it happens, sometimes if I try to "rewind" it turns out OK. [Bug 120893] Re: kded hogs cpu
Strangely, I have not experienced the runaway kde recently, but I have found that at some point in the last few weeks automount completely stopped working. Are you saying that these two problems might be related? What has also been happening since I reported this bug has been that fairly soon after I log in I get a message telling me that kded has crashed. Sometimes this happens twice in within the first—I dunno—perhaps twenty minutes or so. Occasionally it happens again later on. But it never fails to happen straight after login. What also happens around the time that this happens for the first time at login, although it rarely happens absolutely simultaneously with it, is that I get a message box saying something about processing the file "trash:/" (I can't remember the exact message, but I can make a note of it next time I log in if it is needed). This message box hangs around for several seconds, during which time neither the remainder of the kde panel nor the desktop gets populated with widgets and files. I don't know if this is yet another bug, but I mention it here just in case it is part of the same problem. -- kded hogs cpu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120893 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 130302] Re: klamav crash on ubuntu
>From the information you've provided, It looks like you were trying to have klamav upgrade your clamav to the current version. I'm marking the bug invalid, but if my gueses here are incorrect, feel free to reopen the bug with additional information. If you want to have klamav upgrade clamav and/or klamav, you need to have the build dependencies installed (I'm in the process of updating the Gutsy version of Klamav to describe this). You do that in Konsole using "sudo apt-get build-dep clamav klamav". That said, if you are running Gutsy, the latest clamav is in the repositories. If you are on Feisty, it's available in feisty-backports. Since it's available from the repositories, you are better off to get it there as it has the latest Kubuntu specific patches that aren't present in the upstream version. If you are on Dapper/Edgy, the shipped clamav had a different interface than the current one and upgrading will likely break applications (such as Klamav) the use it. We are working on fixing this, but it takes a lot of testing. ** Changed in: klamav (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- klamav crash on ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Snip from init script in gutsy: case "$1" in start) log_daemon_msg "Starting the Winbind daemon" "winbind" mkdir -p /var/run/samba/winbindd_privileged || return 1 chgrp winbindd_priv $PIDDIR/winbindd_privileged/ || return 1 chmod 0750 $PIDDIR/winbindd_privileged/ || return 1 start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo --exec $DAEMON -- $WINBINDD_OPTS log_end_msg $? ;; Does that solve the problem? Instead of proxy, we are using winbindd_priv group. On setting up, you should just add proxy user to winbindd_priv group. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium Status: New => Triaged -- winbindd_privileged permission issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/64425 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 3581] Re: New ext3 partitions should not have max-mount count
If the disk checking behavior cannot be changed (forcing you to wait 10 minutes or more during boot), then the default should be off. No force disk checking every Xth time you boot. There are times when you need to use your computer now. For example a presentation or a class. In fact that is the normal situation when you turn on a computer. This disk check forces you to wait a long time before you can use your own computer. Many have posted on the Ubuntu forums about this. I hope it will be disabled in Gutsy (or the behavior changed so that a user can override it when a disk check occurs). -- New ext3 partitions should not have max-mount count https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3581 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 128891] Re: inconsistency detected by ld.so
upgraded the above xorg packages today to latest gutsy versions and X is still working after restart. So I guess the bug can be closed. [Bug 22460] Re: Should be warned of upcoming forced fsck
I also would like to be able to either cancel/skip the disk check on boot, or the best option would be to ask users if the disk check can be performed on shutdown, although I know that would require significant changes. Giving users a yes/no choice before performing the disk check is an easy fix, however. -- Should be warned of upcoming forced fsck https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/22460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
