[Bug 71953] Re: Can't copy audio cd's from Nautilus in Edgy Eft

2007-08-04 Thread Francesco Potortì
I apparently have the same problem: I insert an audio CD and a writeable
CD. Then I choose the Copy Disc entry from the audio CD contextual menu.
The process of copying and writing completes without signalling any
errors, but the resulting CD cannot be read either by Ubuntu or by my
DVD reader, which says it is a "VCD 1.0" disk, but does not play it.

Using Sound Juicer and then Serpentine I can manage do build an audio
CD.

[Bug 128424] Re: kftpgrabber 0.8.1 will not fxp files, only directories

2007-08-04 Thread Mark
I've done more testing. I tried FXPing 1 15-meg file and it actually
tried to transfer but only 107bytes were transferred. Then I tried to
fxp a folder full of files and only the top folder was made, all of the
files failed. I've tried the 0.8.1 package in Ubuntu repository and
I've tried the Ubuntu pakage from the KFTPGrabber webpage and they both
do not work correctly.

I would love to help further in order to get this bug squashed.

[Bug 130362] can't load module acx100 for DWL-650+ Wireless LAN card on Gusty alpha 3

2007-08-04 Thread baosheng
Public bug reported:

hi
I have a D-link DWL-650 Wireless LAN card. It works well on previous version of
Ubuntu as well as the first time I logged into my new Gusty box.

But after I upgraded my kernel version as the Update Program Notifier
asked me, I found it doesn't work, though I can see it in "System" ->
"Preference" - > "Hardware Information", as well as "lspci".

[INDENT]04:00.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1510 PC card Cardbus
Controller
05:00.0 Network controller: Texas Instruments ACX 100 22Mbps Wireless
Interface[/INDENT]

There is no such interface wlan0. I also can't see it in "System" ->
"Administration" - > "Network".

According to this list,
[URL="https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsDlink"]https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsDlink[/URL]
, this card is driven by the kernel module acx100. So I tried "sudo modprobe
acx100" and got this result:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe acx100
FATAL: Module acx100 not found.
[/INDENT]

If I try to load module "acx", I will get this result:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe acx
FATAL: Error inserting acx
(/lib/modules/2.6.22-8-generic/ubuntu/wireless/acx/acx.ko): Invalid argument

I have tried to boot to the first kernel image. But the problem still exist.
Why I can't load that module?

Can anyone help me?

PS: I also attach the snapshot to the page about this card in device
manager. dmesg.log is also attached.

However, I don't see your name as "watcher" of this critical bug filed against

Would you review the issue and incorporate the patch or provide further

[Bug 130365] key combination ctrl+w to close a tab is repeated automatically

2007-08-04 Thread johannes graën
Public bug reported:

when pressing ctrl+w the current tab gets closed as wanted. but
sometimes it closes more than one (for instance three tabs).

this behaviour also happened one time with ctrl+t to open a new tab.
instead the programm opened about 20 or 30 and then crashed.

for me it seems as if some keystrokes get internally repeated or a key-
pressed-event is not deleted after having processed it.

[Bug 51106] Re: Calculations by "date" are wrong

2007-08-04 Thread Tino Meinen
its also in coreutils 6.0 so it's upstream.
If you do:

date -d '11:40 8 minutes'

(so leave out the '+'), it gives the right answer: 11:48
11:40 60 seconds gives 11:41 (correct)
11:40 + 1 day gives correct answer
11:40 1 day gives correct anser.

With day, week, year, you can add the plus sign, (or minus sign) doesn't make
any difference.
With seconds, minutes and hours, date does strange things when you add a plus
or minus sign.

This is probably an upstream bug.

[Bug 124499] Re: [feisty] ifdown not invoked when removing pcmcia wireless card

2007-08-04 Thread wildthewiz
Lately I went out with this patch, which is far simpler:

/etc/udev/rules.d/85-ifupdown.rules

-#SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="?*", GOTO="net_start"
+SUBSYSTEM=="net", GOTO="net_start"

by the way, this is how the script appeared in dapper.
I don't know what can be broken by removing the DRIVERS line,
but adding it for sure breaks the ifdown process

[Bug 129581] Re: Gutsy - Kubuntu - USB Flash Drive does not automount

2007-08-04 Thread Mike Grunde
My problem is very similar to yours when you have kded off. The only
differences are that I have kded running, and media:/ shows all of my
drives, except any flash drives I have plugged in. However, like you, I
do get a new device in /dev and no popup.

Perhaps this isn't a bug, just something I broke, but I'm not sure what
I could have done to break it. It seemed to stop working right after I
installed Gutsy.

[Bug 72660] Re: entering swat commands causes command line to become inoperative

2007-08-04 Thread Ante Karamatić
@peterfoster
That's not a bug. Once you start swat, it bind to a port and listens, it
doesn't quit. You should start it with 'swat &'. And command line is operative
- ctrl+c kills swat and brings you back command line. This is normal behavior.

Your problem isn't related to Samba, so please fill it as a new bug.

[Bug 130368] RFE: add an item to options menu to start onscreen keyboard

2007-08-04 Thread Francesco Fumanti
Public bug reported:

At the gdm login screen, there is an Options menu, that enables users to
change their keyboard and language settings.

I would suggest to add an item to this menu to start the onscreen
keyboard that is shipped with ubuntu and that is called onboard. This
would be welcome for people that only have the pointer as input. (for
example tabletpc users or disabled users)

Appearantly, some people have onboard running at the login screen by applying a
little hack:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=267051
Consequently, I hoped that making it appear using an additional item in the
Options menu will not be very difficult.

Looking through ubuntu's 2.6.22 source tree, I notice that the ubuntu

Side note: It doesn't seem like bug reports are the way to communicate
with developers. Should I be doing this through a developer channel? I
just want to help out from time to time. I don't have the time to be an
active developer responsible for packages.

Are developers reading these bug reports, or is there a layer of bug
report readers who follow both the bug reports and kernel development? I
feel quite useless here. hmmm!!!

Hi. Sorry to bother again, but the Feisty template does not seem to be

gnome-app-install 0.3.31. I put this on IRC before Carlos's irc client
quit:

Rosetta still doesn't have new strings. Did you fix the make update-po
manually before uploading the pot, so that a new pot was generated?

If I get 0.3.31, make update-po in po/ doesn't work unless I add a line

are updated with the codec strings. The 0.3.31 is in feisty-updates.

[Bug 35501] Re: screensaver make crash GDM

2007-08-04 Thread cedric santran
I'am using the gutsy release and I have find a workaround for this bugs.

xgl-xserver in not involved, it was gnome-screensaver the accountable.

In fact, the XGL in on the display :1.0, and gnome-screensaver in on the
display :0.0.
So when you call gnome-screensaver-preferences, he is called from :1.0, it
cause the segfault.
If you run:

 #:-$> DISPLAY=:0.0 gnome-screensaver-preferences

the window appear but with no border. The good way it to use gnome-
screensaver-preferences with the sync option:

#:-$> gnome-screensaver-preferences --sync

A note for the Gutsy:
In the latest gutsy upgrade 's, the solution found for solve this is to run
gnome-screensaver daemon on the current display, so :1.0 (I'am using XGL on an
ATI X14OO video card whith the fglrx driver). the gnome-screensaver-preferences
running fine, because the panel and the daemon are on the same display :1.0.
The old solution to run gnome-screensaver on display :0.0 is better for
performance and CPU consumption, because running opengl program on XGL is not a
good idea (with fglrx driver). I have modifier the launcher for
gnome-screensaver-preferences by adding the --sync option and gnome-screensaver
with --disply=:0.0.

[Bug 130376] crash while checking MD5sums on include list

2007-08-04 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

The build machine behind cdimage.ubuntu.com was recently upgraded to
edgy/amd64. While testing the new system, I found that mkisofs
segfaulted while trying to build Ubuntu alternate install CD images.
Investigation showed that this is due to incorrect linked list code used
while constructing the JTE include and exclude lists for jigdo file
generation. This is unlikely to affect normal users of mkisofs, but
affects those trying to build Debian or Ubuntu CD images. I would like
to propose this for a stable release update in order to fix Ubuntu's
production CD image building system without the need for a local build
of mkisofs.

This is also Debian bug 411873, and I've sent a patch there to fix the
linked list generation. I have applied this patch in cdrkit
9:1.1.6-1ubuntu1 in gutsy. Corresponding patches against edgy and feisty
are attached here.

Since the crash is rather dependent on precise details of stack layout,
it's not necessarily easy to reproduce directly. However, valgrind picks
it up with no trouble. Steps to reproduce on an edgy system with mkisofs
and valgrind installed (for feisty and gutsy, substitute "genisoimage"
for "mkisofs" throughout:

  mkdir -p /tmp/mkisofs-test
  cd /tmp/mkisofs-test
  mkdir -p t/pool
  dd if=/dev/zero of=t/file bs=1024 count=100
  touch md5
  valgrind mkisofs -o t.iso -jigdo-jigdo t.jigdo -jigdo-template t.template
-md5-list md5 -jigdo-force-md5 /pool/ t

The output will contain an error similar to the following (exact numbers
are unimportant):

==8624== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s)
  ==8624==at 0x42BB38: (within /usr/bin/mkisofs)
  ==8624==by 0x40E7D6: (within /usr/bin/mkisofs)
  ==8624==by 0x40EBD9: (within /usr/bin/mkisofs)
  ==8624==by 0x40460E: main (in /usr/bin/mkisofs)
  ==8624==by 0x4C570C3: (below main) (in /lib/libc-2.4.so)

The patch affects only JTE code, so (barring regressions due simply to
rebuilding cdrtools), other uses of mkisofs will not be affected.
Typical uses of mkisofs to build simple ISO images from a tree of files
on disk do not use JTE; it is an advanced feature for use by
distributors of heavily-downloaded ISO images.

+ affects those trying to build Debian or Ubuntu CD images. I would like
+ to propose this for a stable release update in order to fix Ubuntu's
+ production CD image building system without the need for a local build
+ of mkisofs.

This is also Debian bug 411873, and I've sent a patch there to fix the
linked list generation. I have applied this patch in cdrkit
9:1.1.6-1ubuntu1 in gutsy. Corresponding patches against edgy and feisty
  are attached here.

Since the crash is rather dependent on precise details of stack layout,
it's not necessarily easy to reproduce directly. However, valgrind picks

2007-08-04 Thread Martin Böhm
Thank you for your bug report. I am afraid it is not the translation

bug related to migrating data from Debian to Ubuntu.

Do you know about the situation in Debian? Are their man pages all

[Bug 70590] Re: Shares do not get unshared but user is unaware

2007-08-04 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
I right-click on a folder in nautilus, select "share folder" (notice
that my desktop is in italian, so the english version might differ) and
choose a name for the folder. Then in nautilus I go to

smb://localhost

and I see the folder. Then I go to system/administration/shared folders
and see the folder. Then right-click on it in nautilus, select "share
folder" and "do not share". The folder disappears from
system/administration/shared folders, however in nautilus I can still go
to "smb://localhost" and use it.

If I unshare it directly from "system/administration" it gets unshared
correctly so the bug should be in the nautilus plugin. Moreover, if I
share a folder from nautilus while keeping the system/administration
window opened, lines are added in smb.conf but the folder is not visible
in smb://localhost. The same happens when I unshare it: it is no longer
present in smb.conf but it is visible in smb://localhost, so the point
seems to be that the nautilus plugins should tell samba to reload its
configuration after changing it.

[Bug 130379] movie/visual effects screen turns black while playing a movie / song

2007-08-04 Thread ortutt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, Totem 2.18.1.
I downloaded all the GStreamer plugins I could find, to watch MPEG and WMV
files.
Most of the times, I can see only the first frame or so of the movie, after
that the screen turns black and there's only audio.
When it happens, sometimes if I try to "rewind" it turns out OK.
In the few times it starts out OK, if I move the window, the movie screen turns
black again.
This happened again with the visual effects when playing a WMA song.

This is a pure Samba problem, as the "smb" backend is part of the Samba
package. The error_log does not show anything wrong which happened to
the "smb" backend. The "smb" simply crashed.

So closing the cupsys task ...

[Bug 120893] Re: kded hogs cpu

2007-08-04 Thread Robert Persson
Strangely, I have not experienced the runaway kde recently, but I have
found that at some point in the last few weeks automount completely
stopped working. Are you saying that these two problems might be
related?

What has also been happening since I reported this bug has been that
fairly soon after I log in I get a message telling me that kded has
crashed. Sometimes this happens twice in within the first—I
dunno—perhaps twenty minutes or so. Occasionally it happens again later
on. But it never fails to happen straight after login.

What also happens around the time that this happens for the first time
at login, although it rarely happens absolutely simultaneously with it,
is that I get a message box saying something about processing the file
"trash:/" (I can't remember the exact message, but I can make a note of
it next time I log in if it is needed). This message box hangs around
for several seconds, during which time neither the remainder of the kde
panel nor the desktop gets populated with widgets and files. I don't
know if this is yet another bug, but I mention it here just in case it
is part of the same problem.

[Bug 130302] Re: klamav crash on ubuntu

2007-08-04 Thread Scott Kitterman
>From the information you've provided, It looks like you were trying to
have klamav upgrade your clamav to the current version. I'm marking the
bug invalid, but if my gueses here are incorrect, feel free to reopen
the bug with additional information.

If you want to have klamav upgrade clamav and/or klamav, you need to
have the build dependencies installed (I'm in the process of updating
the Gutsy version of Klamav to describe this). You do that in Konsole
using "sudo apt-get build-dep clamav klamav".

That said, if you are running Gutsy, the latest clamav is in the
repositories. If you are on Feisty, it's available in feisty-backports.
Since it's available from the repositories, you are better off to get it
there as it has the latest Kubuntu specific patches that aren't present
in the upstream version. If you are on Dapper/Edgy, the shipped clamav
had a different interface than the current one and upgrading will likely
break applications (such as Klamav) the use it. We are working on
fixing this, but it takes a lot of testing.

[Bug 130380] Images no longer display

2007-08-04 Thread billca42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox version 2.0.0.6
OS: Ubuntu Feisty Faun
Intel Pentium series 32 bit single processor

Upgraded to this version of Firefox using Ubuntu's automated upgrade
feature. After install and reboot, images on web sites no longer
displayed. Sometimes there is no error message, and sometimes there is a
message saying that there is an error in the image file.

This is true for many web sites. Here is an example URL

http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/5341/Events/5341/11263691_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Dinklage,%20Peter

I double checked this against another browser (Konqueror) and the images
displayed fine.

[Bug 64425] Re: winbindd_privileged permission issue

2007-08-04 Thread Ante Karamatić
Snip from init script in gutsy:

case "$1" in
start)
log_daemon_msg "Starting the Winbind daemon" "winbind"

mkdir -p /var/run/samba/winbindd_privileged || return 1
chgrp winbindd_priv $PIDDIR/winbindd_privileged/ || return 1
chmod 0750 $PIDDIR/winbindd_privileged/ || return 1
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo --exec $DAEMON --
$WINBINDD_OPTS

log_end_msg $?

Does that solve the problem? Instead of proxy, we are using
winbindd_priv group. On setting up, you should just add proxy user to
winbindd_priv group.

[Bug 3581] Re: New ext3 partitions should not have max-mount count

2007-08-04 Thread DH
If the disk checking behavior cannot be changed (forcing you to wait 10
minutes or more during boot), then the default should be off. No force
disk checking every Xth time you boot.

There are times when you need to use your computer now. For example a
presentation or a class. In fact that is the normal situation when you
turn on a computer. This disk check forces you to wait a long time
before you can use your own computer.

Many have posted on the Ubuntu forums about this. I hope it will be
disabled in Gutsy (or the behavior changed so that a user can override
it when a disk check occurs).

[Bug 22460] Re: Should be warned of upcoming forced fsck

I also would like to be able to either cancel/skip the disk check on
