I was also stuck with same modprobe usbserial problem(earlier worked but not working with current kernel version). But as soon as i modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst and restarted the system all went fine. Now i can directly type the "wvdial" to connect my AC2726 modem(ONDA/ZTE). Just do the following... "At the end of the line that starts with "kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=" or something similar, append the following two parameters: " usbserial.vendor=0x19d2 usbserial.product=0xfff1".Replace 0x19d2 and 0xfff1 with the ids for your particular modem." NOTE: Don't put "usbserial.vendor=0x19d2 usbserial.product=0x0064" on a new line, just append to your kernel line. -- usbserial.ko missing in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350904 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 486008] [NEW] mounted disks should not be part of reported disk space on Baobab
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-utils I'm using Baobab to find what's taking up so much space on my root partition, so I click on "Scan Filesystem". When it's done scanning, I find that the guilty folder is /media. Well, of course, I have a 250GB disk mounted right there. I noticed a very similar problem: when I put the laptop to sleep, and later wake it up, it shows the desktop and then sleeps again, inmediatly. [Bug 479296] Re: Karmic: frequent freezes
I'm currently working through a myriad of suspicious events in my syslog to try and troubleshoot major system freezes etc. I am also suffering from these outputs and was wondering if they could cause server banning from VOIP services such as Ventrilo? Is something spamming the audio server and transmitting it over the VOIP connection? I'm also getting the sound stuttering at regular intervals. This is a side issue that arises just before my system malfunctions with graphics problems, which a restart doesn't solve due to failure to detect power connectors to my graphics cards, but i can do nothing and once in a safe low graphics ubuntu environment (2.6.31.15, nvidia- glx-185-latest) i can restart again and be back to my normal high graphics power connector enabled 7800 GT SLI loveliness. So, you know... wtf? I am willing to provide more information if this is tantalizing. Everything gets worse over time, which doesn't make sense. This is a fresh install from two days ago and the first day was fine from a user point of view (haven't checked old logs) but now things are getting worse. It took 5 hours to crash catastrophically yesterday and today it takes as little as maybe 15 minutes to get to major system load, sound stuttering etc. Strangely i'm still on the same system without a reboot and everything is working fine. What is the link between the graphics and the sound issue? Why does it screw with X? It may also be screwing up the resume image and manual resume from disk fails. Also, is anyone having problems with IRQ/wireless RT-chipset/audio configuration in their syslogs? Just wondering if it is relevant. -- Karmic: frequent freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479296 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Michele, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME for information on how to report bugs upstream, since this is where the developers of the software are reading. It is likely that the bug has already been reported upstream and it would be great if you check if one of the bugs at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=product:evolution+vcard is similar to what you experience, because then we can link this bug here and get noticed when it gets fixed. [Bug 486022] [NEW] HP LJ2200D JetDirect recognised but doesn't print: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hplip I've just upgraded to 9.10 from 9.04 My HP LJ2200D was working fine with 9.04 and the version of CUPS that came with that version (1.3). It is still working from another machine which is still running 9.04 so there is no problem with the printer. 9.10 comes with a new version of CUPS (1.4.1) I have eventually managed to get hp-setup to discover the printer on the network using the SLP network discovery method. Manually putting in the IP address did not work for some reason even though I could ping the address fine. CUPS localhost:631 would not find the printer but now recognises it having set up with the hp setup tool. So, now it recognises the printer, I can access the printer via the browser and see all the settings etc. BUT, it will not print. Even printing a test page from either the HP toolbox or from CUPS gives the error "/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed" The hp file is in the stated folder. I have tried reinstalling hplip but no change. I have tried different drivers including the one I was previously using. Now have HP LaserJet 2200 Postscript (recommended) (grayscale) installed. I have looked extensively at other bug reports and howto pages but cannot fix this. Please help as not being able to print is a big problem for me! ** Affects: hplip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- HP LJ2200D JetDirect recognised but doesn't print: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 480492] Re: Computer goes back to sleep upon wakeup, after unplugging from wall.
Yeah, this only started happening with 9.10. I never had this problem with 9.04. That is strange that you are getting it multiple times in a row though. I only ever have it happen once, and only after unplugging it from power while it is sleeping, then resuming. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the computer thinking it is still on external power when it starts up, and once the battery kicks in, the computer goes back to sleep. [Bug 457737] Re: USB Startup Disk Creator does nothing when trying to format a disk
I've come across this error a lot of times lately, the first time it drove me to assuming my usb disk was corrupt or some such. This time I thought it was because lots of other things were broken in the system (bad upgrade problems from jaunty, using pre-release updates... things are starting to go wonky - That's why I was going to make the usb disk lol). I went to one of my other Ubuntu machines to do the deed, and came across this problem there too. I just formatted the partition using gparted. It lists both /dev/sdg with a warning icon, and also /dev/sdg1, which is currently allowing me to create the partition. It is quite confusing though, especially when the default item selected is the warning icon @ /dev/sdg -- USB Startup Disk Creator does nothing when trying to format a disk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/457737 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 457737] Re: USB Startup Disk Creator does nothing when trying to format a disk
I figured I'd add this in, based on what Alex said on comment #8. To get a functional stick, I first deleted all partition tables using fdisk $ sudo fdisk /dev/sdg and then created a fat32 partition, using full space in gparted. Doing this, allowed me to select the /dev/sdg1 partition in usb startup disk, and succesfully create the boot stick. [Bug 378686] Re: evolution don't manage correctly message with vcard inside
Since you reported the bug against Ubuntu 8.10 and I am using Ubuntu 9.10, I tried your example mailbox file. Evolution correctly shows me the buttons "show full card" and "save in address book". The only problem is that the last of the two buttons gives no feedback except when the contact has already been added, which is bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492838. Therefore I suggest you also check if the bug is still present for you in a newer version of ubuntu. Thanks. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #492838 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492838 ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- evolution don't manage correctly message with vcard inside https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378686 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 469881] Re: gnome-ppp fails under 9.10, works under 9.04
I can confirm that the workaround of removing the modemmanager package does the trick for me, allowing me to use my USRobotics USR5637 dialup USB modem with gnome-ppp without problems in Karmic. I did not have to "completely remove" the package in Synaptic, only doing a regular package removal. This workaround probably leaves my system unable to talk to wireless 3G modems, but that is not an issue I can test or need to face. -- gnome-ppp fails under 9.10, works under 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469881 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
