Since this report have a long time without activity, could you check (if
is possible) in latest version included in Karmic if this issue is still
happening? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 262853] Re: ov51x-jpeg-source won't build against kernel 2.6.27, but 1.5.9 (already in Jaunty) would.

2009-11-20 Thread Jarius

Same problem here with Hercules Blog Webcam on Karmic Koala.

Maybe, because kernel-header file gspca.h has NULL byte size??

Tested on up2date karmic with all updates.

lspci shows this
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

So this is another famous show stopping bug it seems.

Here in lspci we get BCM4312
and in dmesg we get BCM4315.

what can be done to fix this? Anyone?

[Bug 350904] Re: usbserial.ko missing in Jaunty

2009-11-20 Thread srikant
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 345002 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345002

Hi everyone..first of all thanx to all members of this active forum.
I was also stuck with same modprobe usbserial problem(earlier worked but not
working with current kernel version).

But as soon as i modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst and restarted the system all
went fine. Now i can directly type the "wvdial" to connect my AC2726
modem(ONDA/ZTE).

Just do the following...
"At the end of the line that starts with "kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic
root=UUID=" or something similar, append the following two parameters: "
usbserial.vendor=0x19d2 usbserial.product=0xfff1".Replace 0x19d2 and 0xfff1
with the ids for your particular modem."

NOTE: Don't put "usbserial.vendor=0x19d2 usbserial.product=0x0064" on a
new line, just append to your kernel line.

[Bug 486008] [NEW] mounted disks should not be part of reported disk space on Baobab

2009-11-20 Thread Fibonacci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

I'm using Baobab to find what's taking up so much space on my root partition,
so I click on "Scan Filesystem".
When it's done scanning, I find that the guilty folder is /media. Well, of
course, I have a 250GB disk mounted right there. Problem is, none of the files
on that disk (or in all of /media, for that matter) are even on the filesystem
I'm scanning, so they should not take up space OR be shown as doing so.

Is it possible to scan ONLY the root partition?

[Bug 480492] Re: Computer goes back to sleep upon wakeup, after unplugging from wall.

2009-11-20 Thread Martín Melado
I noticed a very similar problem: when I put the laptop to sleep, and
later wake it up, it shows the desktop and then sleeps again,
inmediatly. This happens sometimes 2 or 3 times until I can use the
laptop again. It started to happen with 9.10, it did not happen with
9.04 or older Ubuntu releases.

The weird thing is that it happens too with latest version of Arch
Linux. Maybe a kernel/drivers problem?

It is a Samsung R50, old Centrino with Intel 915GM.

[Bug 479296] Re: Karmic: frequent freezes

2009-11-20 Thread an0nu4nc3
I'm currently working through a myriad of suspicious events in my syslog
to try and troubleshoot major system freezes etc. I am also suffering
from these outputs and was wondering if they could cause server banning
from VOIP services such as Ventrilo? Is something spamming the audio
server and transmitting it over the VOIP connection? I'm also getting
the sound stuttering at regular intervals.

This is a side issue that arises just before my system malfunctions with
graphics problems, which a restart doesn't solve due to failure to
detect power connectors to my graphics cards, but i can do nothing and
once in a safe low graphics ubuntu environment (2.6.31.15, nvidia-
glx-185-latest) i can restart again and be back to my normal high
graphics power connector enabled 7800 GT SLI loveliness.

So, you know... wtf? I am willing to provide more information if this is
tantalizing.

Everything gets worse over time, which doesn't make sense. This is a
fresh install from two days ago and the first day was fine from a user
point of view (haven't checked old logs) but now things are getting
worse. It took 5 hours to crash catastrophically yesterday and today it
takes as little as maybe 15 minutes to get to major system load, sound
stuttering etc. Strangely i'm still on the same system without a reboot
and everything is working fine.

What is the link between the graphics and the sound issue? Why does it
screw with X? It may also be screwing up the resume image and manual
resume from disk fails.

Also, is anyone having problems with IRQ/wireless RT-chipset/audio
configuration in their syslogs? Just wondering if it is relevant.

[Bug 486019] [NEW] unable to install 9.10 on system

2009-11-20 Thread Never
Public bug reported:

Try in do install on a 2.4 GHz 764Mb 80 Gb HD Intel P4 machine and it
will lock up the entire machine and corrupt the MBR of sda so that I can
not access any OS on any drives. It will install 9.04 but NOT 9.10.
The same version/ ISO of 9.10 will work on a 1.4 GHz P4 Intel 256 Mb 80
Gb HD machine though with NO problems. I have already tested for bad
memory and HD problems and NO errors or anomilies. I have also tested
as much as i can of other components to see if there are possible

slicks, could you please try installing the 'linux-backports-modules-

unmute devices after the reboot as well. This may or may not solve your

P.S. - avoid removing pulseaudio in the future unless directed to do so.

-nomodeset boot option => KO freezes quickly after X startup

-Option "PM" "Off" in xorg.conf => KO freezes quickly after X startup
-Option "NoMTRR" in xorg.conf => KO freezes quickly after X startup

i don't try because ignoreby drivers version > 2.8 :
Option "AccelMethod" "xxx" - Try "XAA", "EXA" (ignored on -intel > 2.8.0)
Option "Accel" "Off" - turns off the 2D acceleration (ignored on -intel except
for i810 and i815 chipsets)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 360818 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/360818

Do you connect to the internet directly (using network-manager) or do you use a
router?
I think the problem is, that Ubuntu tries to route all traffic through the vpn
conncetion which actually fails.
I am not sure how you have to set up the internet connection to avoid this.
Maye all you need to do is to set up a dns server for the internet connection,
but i am not sure!
I will try it by myself ...

[Bug 379465] Re: Use firefox-notify For Notifications Using Notify-OSD

2009-11-20 Thread Alden
Glad you are still open to the idea! I will be installing the other add-
on, but didn't like how some changes have to be manually made. Perhaps
this could be the first reason to open the preferences button for this
add-on, for when inevitably some will want the old behavior only. But I
can see where it would open up some can of worms. It is a good idea as
it keeps notifications consistent. Empathy, Evolution, pretty much
everything can and by what I understand is supposed to be able to use
Notify-OSD. Perhaps in time.

Paul, thank you for taking the time to report this issue. First, as a

[Bug 486022] [NEW] HP LJ2200D JetDirect recognised but doesn't print: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed

2009-11-20 Thread Stephen Brown
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

I've just upgraded to 9.10 from 9.04

My HP LJ2200D was working fine with 9.04 and the version of CUPS that
came with that version (1.3). It is still working from another machine
which is still running 9.04 so there is no problem with the printer.
9.10 comes with a new version of CUPS (1.4.1)

I have eventually managed to get hp-setup to discover the printer on the
network using the SLP network discovery method. Manually putting in the
IP address did not work for some reason even though I could ping the
address fine. CUPS localhost:631 would not find the printer but now
recognises it having set up with the hp setup tool.

So, now it recognises the printer, I can access the printer via the
browser and see all the settings etc.

BUT, it will not print. Even printing a test page from either the HP
toolbox or from CUPS gives the error "/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed"

The hp file is in the stated folder. I have tried reinstalling hplip but
no change. I have tried different drivers including the one I was
previously using. Now have HP LaserJet 2200 Postscript (recommended)
(grayscale) installed.

I have looked extensively at other bug reports and howto pages but
cannot fix this. Please help as not being able to print is a big problem
for me!

[Bug 486020] [NEW] With multihead the OSD opens at the wrong place

2009-11-20 Thread Brian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

I do have a twin-view multihead setup, with a smaller screen to the left
containing the menu-bar and a larger screen to the right as my main
workspace. The screens are bottom aligned, such that there is an unused
framebuffer area above the main gnome panel. The setup is like this,
with U=unused, 1=Screen 1 and 2=Screen 2

UU2
1112
1112
1112

The popups open at the border of the right screen at the height that
would be just below the panel. I would expect them to be on the first
screen at the right, at exactly this height.

[Bug 480492] Re: Computer goes back to sleep upon wakeup, after unplugging from wall.

2009-11-20 Thread border43
Yeah, this only started happening with 9.10. I never had this problem
with 9.04. That is strange that you are getting it multiple times in a
row though. I only ever have it happen once, and only after unplugging
it from power while it is sleeping, then resuming. I have a feeling that
it has something to do with the computer thinking it is still on
external power when it starts up, and once the battery kicks in, the
computer goes back to sleep. I don`t know why.

[Bug 457737] Re: USB Startup Disk Creator does nothing when trying to format a disk

2009-11-20 Thread Tim Tilberg
I've come across this error a lot of times lately, the first time it
drove me to assuming my usb disk was corrupt or some such. This time I
thought it was because lots of other things were broken in the system
(bad upgrade problems from jaunty, using pre-release updates... things
are starting to go wonky - That's why I was going to make the usb disk
lol).

I went to one of my other Ubuntu machines to do the deed, and came across this
problem there too. I just formatted the partition using gparted.
It lists both /dev/sdg with a warning icon, and also /dev/sdg1, which is
currently allowing me to create the partition.
It is quite confusing though, especially when the default item selected is the
warning icon @ /dev/sdg

[Bug 457737] Re: USB Startup Disk Creator does nothing when trying to format a disk

2009-11-20 Thread Tim Tilberg
I figured I'd add this in, based on what Alex said on comment #8.

To get a functional stick, I first deleted all partition tables using fdisk
$ sudo fdisk /dev/sdg
and then created a fat32 partition, using full space in gparted.

Doing this, allowed me to select the /dev/sdg1 partition in usb startup
disk, and succesfully create the boot stick.

I hope this helps.

I've done some digging, but haven't been able to make a whole lot of
headway. I tried creating a new pixbuf engine section in the gtkrc
file for the panel, but it doesn't seem like any of the possible
function= values have any effect on the panel as a whole. I looked at
the code, and found where gtkrc is parsed, but wasn't able to easily
see where the data is actually applied. Do you know if this is this
something missing from libgtk+? Or does gnome-panel need to be
changed to coincide with one of the function definitions? FLAT_BOX
has some effect, but only on the panel widgets, not the panel as a
whole.

[Bug 486023] [NEW] Multiple applets crash on login

2009-11-20 Thread Dark Knight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After upgrade of UNR from 9.04 (Jaunty) to 9.10 (Karmic) on my Acer
Aspire One, many applets crash on login with likelihood 50%. After fresh
install with complete reformat of the HDD nothing changed. See the
attached screenshot.

After the crash nothing can be done - be it revert to home screen (Go-
Home applet unavailable), switch between tasks (no window picker
applet), turn off or restart can only be done with the hardware button
(no power off applet) - whereas system in general works as usual.

System locale is Russian (maybe the problem is caused by that).

[Bug 378686] Re: evolution don't manage correctly message with vcard inside

2009-11-20 Thread Martin Mai
Since you reported the bug against Ubuntu 8.10 and I am using Ubuntu
9.10, I tried your example mailbox file. Evolution correctly shows me
the buttons "show full card" and "save in address book". The only
problem is that the last of the two buttons gives no feedback except
when the contact has already been added, which is bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492838.

Therefore I suggest you also check if the bug is still present for you

I can confirm that the workaround of removing the modemmanager package
does the trick for me, allowing me to use my USRobotics USR5637 dialup
USB modem with gnome-ppp without problems in Karmic. I did not have to
"completely remove" the package in Synaptic, only doing a regular
package removal. This workaround probably leaves my system unable to
talk to wireless 3G modems, but that is not an issue I can test or need
to face.
