[Bug 613371] [NEW] Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in pre-expiration period
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in pre-expiration period With an up-to-date maverick system, integrated in an Active Directory network, the login of domain users with gdm is not possible when the password is in the pre-expiration period. After the insertion of the password (not yet expired), the gdm screen freezes, showing a warning about the future password expiration (see screenshot). The same user can instead login using the console. Local users and domain users, whose password are not in pre-expiration period, can login normally. [Bug 238208] Re: Need MemoryStick driver Ricoh R5C822 chipset
Just one extra comment: This will not work on Lucid. Since the kernel 2.6.34, some block layer functions have been renamed. Therefore, under 2.6.32, this will not compile. It is, however, in theory, possible to hack the source code to rename the mentioned functions. [Bug 605543] Re: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe1 in position 0: unexpected end of data
Aha, a clue! The error message is 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xeb, and the message contained a ë. Byte 0xeb in the *ISO-8859-1* character encoding is ë! This means that it is very likely that the message is not encoded with UTF-8 at all, but with ISO-8859-1, and Gwibber for some reason tries to decode the message using the wrong character encoding! In my own error message posted above the byte it can't decode using UTF-8 is 0xe1, which is á in ISO 8859-1. It used to get stuck in a xargs call in /etc/mysql/debian-start that seemed to go forkbomb. Since then I've just been running `sudo -b -u mysql mysqld`. And after the recent mysql update, I tried to fix it by backing up all the data and remove everything and reinstall, but apparently it just broke even worse. :( 2. [Bug 613381] [NEW] S3 resume hang when PCI Express wakeups don't clear the PM1 PCI_WAKE_DISABLE bit
Public bug reported: It has been observed on a AMD K325 netbook that resumes hang in the BIOS if PCI Express ethernet is enabled on the 2nd or 3rd resume. Disabling the ethernet has shown that the resume works flawlessly. This has been tracked down to the fact that a PCI Express Wake event has occurred and the kernel is not clearing the PM1 PCIEXP_WAKE_STS bit when coming out of resume. Section 4.7.3.1.1 of version 4.0 of the acpi spec (http://www.acpi.info/spec40.htm) in table 4-11 concerning PCIEXP_WAKE_STS states: Software writes a 1 to clear this bit. If the WAKE# pin is still active during the write, one or more PCI Express ports is in the beacon state or the PME message received indication has not been cleared in the root port, then the bit will remain active (i.e. all inputs to this bit are level-sensitive). Note: This bit does not itself cause a wake event or prevent entry to a sleeping state. Thus if the bit is 1 and the system is put into a sleeping state, the system will not automatically wake. A suitable fix is to define ACPI_BITMASK_ALL_FIXED_STATUS to: #define ACPI_BITMASK_ALL_FIXED_STATUS (\ ACPI_BITMASK_TIMER_STATUS | \ ACPI_BITMASK_BUS_MASTER_STATUS | \ ACPI_BITMASK_GLOBAL_LOCK_STATUS| \ ACPI_BITMASK_POWER_BUTTON_STATUS | \ ACPI_BITMASK_SLEEP_BUTTON_STATUS | \ ACPI_BITMASK_RT_CLOCK_STATUS | \ ACPI_BITMASK_PCIEXP_WAKE_DISABLE | \ ACPI_BITMASK_WAKE_STATUS) ..and this ensures PCIEXP_WAKE_STS is cleared by acpi_hw_clear_acpi_status() when coming out of S3. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Colin King (colin-king) Status: In Progress ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Colin King (colin-king) -- S3 resume hang when PCI Express wakeups don't clear the PM1 PCI_WAKE_DISABLE bit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613381 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi everybody. I kind of have the same bug since I changed my graphic card to a Geforce GTS 250. Its particularity is to have a separated supply source coming directly from the Power Supply of the computer. Without the parallel supply source I don't have the bug, so I assume, the bug is linked with the ACPI layer. [Bug 610446] Re: Xorg segmentation fault with Nvidia (ver. 96) driver
Uhm - well, there is a work-around for this problem. As has been pointed-out elsewhere, effectively, if /etc/default/grub is modified so that GRUB_TERMINAL=console is un-commented, or instead, the kernel command line is modified to include vga=normal, as in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= blah vga=normal blah or, generally, GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= blah vga=[normal|ext|0xsome text mode] blah then the framebuffer console is not used, and the nvidia module will run without a seg fault. Something is still broken, with either Xorg or the nvidia module, but you can get on with life, just without running high-res on the framebuffer. BTW, you cannot actually set the text-mode resolution with vga= I seem to get 80x25 text mode regardless of what is set at vga=0x???. I don't know if this is because of grub2 faults, or if intstead, these text modes have been disabled in the newer kernels. grub2 itself will fail for vga=ask. -- Xorg segmentation fault with Nvidia (ver. 96) driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610446 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 605543] Re: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe1 in position 0: unexpected end of data
The plot thickens. I've been looking at the code, and this happens while decoding an HTML entity tag (such as aacute;). Apparently the problem is not that the contents of the tweet are being decoded with the wrong character encoding, but that the tweet contains entity tags, and Python's htmllib is failing at converting those. The line that fails is: self.savedata = self.savedata + data Where savedata is the content of the tweet so far, and data is the character that corresponds to the entity tag, for instance an ë. I wonder why Python feels the need to perform a UTF-8 conversion to perform that concatenation.
