[Bug 613358] Re: alacarte crashes on startup, when all menu entries are not present

2010-08-04 Thread LeadMan
My ~/.config/menus path contained following after this failure:
pat...@esp-patben-lin:~/.config/menus$ ls -lR
.:
razem 12
-rw-r--r-- 1 patben patben  366 2010-08-04 10:27 applications.menu
drwxr-xr-x 2 patben patben 4096 2010-08-04 09:38 applications-merged
-rw-r--r-- 1 patben patben  404 2010-08-04 10:27 settings.menu

./applications-merged:
razem 0
pat...@esp-patben-lin:~/.config/menus$

And my applications.menu file contained only the following:
pat...@esp-patben-lin:~/Backup/.config/menus$ cat applications.menu
!DOCTYPE Menu
  PUBLIC '-//freedesktop//DTD Menu 1.0//EN'
  'http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/menu-1.0.dtd'

MergeFile type=parent/etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu/MergeFile
Menu
NameDevelopment/Name
Include
FilenameSQuirreL SQL Client.desktop/Filename
/Include
/Menu
Deleted/
/Menu

After additional search I have copied /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu to
~/.config/menus. After that, all menu entries has appeared back... together
with  (empty name) entry.
Alacarte has started properly, I have moved squirrel SQL shortcut again to
Programming  entry.
Now I payed more attention, when (empty) was selected Delete button was
greyed out.
I have clicked squirrel shortcut in menu entry and deleted it - went fine.
I have clicked (empty) - delete button was still grey.
I tried to move (empty) to subsection of Accessories with hope i will be
able to delete it.
Then all menu entries has disappeared and after I closed it, terminal contained:
pat...@esp-patben-lin:/etc/xdg/menus$ alacarte

** (alacarte:3726): WARNING **: Error loading menu layout from
/home/patben/.config/menus/applications.menu: Line 6 character 9:

Conclusion: previously I have accidentally moved (empty) menu entry to
another section, which has triggered disappearance of all menu entries. Should
this be reported as separate bug? I remind you, that this bug concerns crash of
alacarte, when there are no menu entries.

[Bug 613371] [NEW] Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in pre-expiration period

2010-08-04 Thread Renzo Bagnati
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in pre-expiration
period

With an up-to-date maverick system, integrated in an Active Directory network,
the login of domain users with gdm is not possible when the password is in the
pre-expiration period.
After the insertion of the password (not yet expired), the gdm screen freezes,
showing a warning about the future password expiration (see screenshot). The
same user can instead login using the console.
Local users and domain users, whose password are not in pre-expiration period,
can login normally.
The AD integration of the system was done with winbind and PAM modules.

gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.2-0ubuntu3
libpam0g 1.1.1-3ubuntu3
libpam-krb5 4.2-1

[Bug 238208] Re: Need MemoryStick driver Ricoh R5C822 chipset

2010-08-04 Thread Stunts
Just one extra comment:

This will not work on Lucid. Since the kernel 2.6.34, some block layer
functions have been renamed. Therefore, under 2.6.32, this will not
compile.

It is, however, in theory, possible to hack the source code to rename
the mentioned functions. One example error is here:

... r592/core/mspro_block.c:1231: error: implicit declaration of
function ‘blk_queue_max_segments’

And here is where I found out what the problem was:

http://old.nabble.com/Kernel-2.6.34-td28609864.html

Anyway, once again, excellent job!

[Bug 605543] Re: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe1 in position 0: unexpected end of data

2010-08-04 Thread Captain Chaos
Aha, a clue!

The error message is 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xeb, and the
message contained a ë. Byte 0xeb in the *ISO-8859-1* character encoding
is ë!

This means that it is very likely that the message is not encoded with
UTF-8 at all, but with ISO-8859-1, and Gwibber for some reason tries to
decode the message using the wrong character encoding!

In my own error message posted above the byte it can't decode using
UTF-8 is 0xe1, which is á in ISO 8859-1. I think it's likely we have
found the bug.

[Bug 613378] [NEW] Printer stopped working

2010-08-04 Thread Alan Jordan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

In the last few days my Brother HL-2040 Printer has suddenly stopped
working, I think as a result of a recent Update to Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
(my System is always kept completely up-to-date). Checking Printer
Drivers shows no Drivers for my Printer, and none available to download.
I have tried ALL the HL-2060 Drivers, the closest match (?) to my
Printer, but none of these work, reporting the Printer as 'Not
connected'.

[Bug 613377] [NEW] mouse pointer is invisible

2010-08-04 Thread Arne Goetje
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

[Bug 613376] [NEW] Kernel panic with printf %M format and over-long buffer

2010-08-04 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: systemtap

Reported this upstream as http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=11870.
 I attached a script that reproduces the problem and other details. The issue
proved to be fixed in SystemTap 1.3, and on further investigation applying

full %m/M buffer, and limit
the length) as a patch to the Ubuntu package fixed the issue.

Re: [Bug 613032] Re: Install broken, won't start

2010-08-04 Thread Zash
On Tue, 2010-08-03 at 16:59 +, Clint Byrum wrote:
 1. What are the exact steps you took to reach this bug (commands used
 would be ideal, try using the 'history' command)

It broke when I upgraded from hardy to 10.04. Maybe because the machine
didn't run well with a PAE kernel and I had to do a hard reboot for it
to come back to life, or just a broken upgrade.
It used to get stuck in a xargs call in /etc/mysql/debian-start that
seemed to go forkbomb. Since then I've just been running `sudo -b -u
mysql mysqld`.
And after the recent mysql update, I tried to fix it by backing up all
the data and remove everything and reinstall, but apparently it just
broke even worse. :(

 2. Did you choose a mysql root password when prompted?

Choosing a password results in it complaining about not being able to
change the password later, and then getting stuck on `start mysql`
again.

[Bug 613381] [NEW] S3 resume hang when PCI Express wakeups don't clear the PM1 PCI_WAKE_DISABLE bit

2010-08-04 Thread Colin King
Public bug reported:

It has been observed on a AMD K325 netbook that resumes hang in the BIOS
if PCI Express ethernet is enabled on the 2nd or 3rd resume. Disabling
the ethernet has shown that the resume works flawlessly. This has been
tracked down to the fact that a PCI Express Wake event has occurred and
the kernel is not clearing the PM1 PCIEXP_WAKE_STS bit when coming out
of resume.

Section 4.7.3.1.1 of version 4.0 of the acpi spec
(http://www.acpi.info/spec40.htm) in table 4-11 concerning
PCIEXP_WAKE_STS states:

Software writes a 1 to clear this bit. If the WAKE# pin is still active during
the write, one or more PCI Express ports is in the beacon state or the PME
message received indication has not been cleared in the root port, then the bit
will remain active (i.e. all inputs to this bit are level-sensitive).

Note: This bit does not itself cause a wake event or prevent entry to a
sleeping state. Thus if the bit is 1 and the system is put into a sleeping
state,
the system will not automatically wake.

A suitable fix is to define ACPI_BITMASK_ALL_FIXED_STATUS to:

#define ACPI_BITMASK_ALL_FIXED_STATUS   (\
ACPI_BITMASK_TIMER_STATUS  | \
ACPI_BITMASK_BUS_MASTER_STATUS | \
ACPI_BITMASK_GLOBAL_LOCK_STATUS| \
ACPI_BITMASK_POWER_BUTTON_STATUS   | \
ACPI_BITMASK_SLEEP_BUTTON_STATUS   | \
ACPI_BITMASK_RT_CLOCK_STATUS   | \
ACPI_BITMASK_PCIEXP_WAKE_DISABLE   | \
ACPI_BITMASK_WAKE_STATUS)

..and this ensures PCIEXP_WAKE_STS is cleared by
acpi_hw_clear_acpi_status() when coming out of S3.

[Bug 583841] Re: armv7 requirement for 10.04 or later

2010-08-04 Thread Michael Vogt
I mark the maverick task invalid as there is no way to upgrade from
lucid (which does not support less than v7) to maverick with the wrong
CPU.

[Bug 559367] Re: HPLIP software not translated

2010-08-04 Thread David Planella
Would anyone want to contact the HPLIP team, either by filing a bug or
through the answers system?

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+filebug
  https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+addquestion

It looks to me that if there is a new developer team, this bug is just
blocking on someone actively wanting to work on the fix and contacting
them to see what the status is.

[Bug 612553] Re: Unicode input mangled

2010-08-04 Thread l0b0
Also, contrary to http://eyegene.ophthy.med.umich.edu/unicode/, none of the LC_
variables are changed after setting the language:
$ export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=C
LC_NUMERIC=C
LC_TIME=C
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY=C
LC_MESSAGES=C
LC_PAPER=C
LC_NAME=C
LC_ADDRESS=C
LC_TELEPHONE=C
LC_MEASUREMENT=C
LC_IDENTIFICATION=C
LC_ALL=C

I get the same result on virtual terminal 1.

$ cat /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8

$ cat /etc/default/locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Should /etc/default/locale contain LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 as mentioned in
bug #179150 comment #19?

Running through
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow console-setup
with the default settings didn't change anything.

I have not yet tried to reinstall anything; that hopefully won't be
necessary.

PS: I also tried logging out and restarting several times between
miscellaneous steps above.

[Bug 583841] Re: armv7 requirement for 10.04 or later

2010-08-04 Thread Michael Vogt
Has this patch actually be tested? It looks like the following line
mixes tab and space:

+   def _test_and_fail_on_non_arm_v7(self):
+

If I apply the patch I get:

  File
/home/mvo/devel/update-manager/checkout/lucid/DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeQuirks.py,
 line 544

  ^
IndentationError: expected an indented block

Please fix it. Please also provide a TEST CASE line for the SRU.

Thanks,
 Michael

[Bug 114620] Re: GDM has no change password option

2010-08-04 Thread Renzo Bagnati
In my setup within an AD network, when my password is in the expiration period
I can barely see the warning in the GDM login window for a fraction of a
second. A normal user would not even notice it.
Introducing the option of changing the password when it is in the expiration
period would also allow a user to be notified of this.

[Bug 613390] [NEW] drag and drop bookmarks sometimes doesn't work

2010-08-04 Thread Kensum T.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

In the browser there is only one way to organize the bookmarks, and
that's the drag and drop function.

My problem is that the drag and drop function sometimes doesn't work at all,
but only sometimes.
Sometimes it's annoying when you want to organize something and it suddenly
doesn't work.

If it happens to someone then you can restart the browser and the drag
and drop function works again, but I don't know how to recall the bug,
because it's too irregular.

The problem is similar to #551090, maybe.

[Bug 557065] Re: frozen mouse/ keyboard

2010-08-04 Thread Aldian
Hi everybody.

I kind of have the same bug since I changed my graphic card to a Geforce
GTS 250. Its particularity is to have a separated supply source coming
directly from the Power Supply of the computer. Without the parallel
supply source I don't have the bug, so I assume, the bug is linked with
the ACPI layer.

Which also makes me say this, is that when I shut down the computer, it
prints will now halt, but now longer auto shutdown.

[Bug 27441] Re: Prevent extended periods of thrashing

2010-08-04 Thread Ole Laursen
Hi! I'm the original reporter. This problem still occurs with new
kernels, otherwise I would have closed the bug. Tim Gardner, would you
please explain whether your last remark applies to me too?

I understand that there's no real momentum behind getting this fixed,
it's probably not simple either, but I believe this bug still serves a
useful purpose as a landing page for people who encounter the problem.

[Bug 613395] [NEW] keyboard starts repeating the last pressed key in Ubuntu 10.04.1 on Dell Studio 1535

2010-08-04 Thread therockita
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This problem may be related to Bug #599316 or Bug #548909

The problem is the following:
When I am typing on the laptop keyboard a key starts to repeat, as if I were
holding it down (but I am not).
Repetition stops when I press some any other key.
This is happening periodically. Sometimes 3 times in 5 minutes, sometimes once
in 2 hours.

[Bug 610446] Re: Xorg segmentation fault with Nvidia (ver. 96) driver

2010-08-04 Thread james
Uhm - well, there is a work-around for this problem. As has been
pointed-out elsewhere, effectively, if /etc/default/grub is modified so
that

 GRUB_TERMINAL=console

is un-commented, or instead, the kernel command line is modified to
include vga=normal, as in

 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= blah vga=normal blah

or, generally,

 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= blah vga=[normal|ext|0xsome text mode]
blah

then the framebuffer console is not used, and the nvidia module will run
without a seg fault.

Something is still broken, with either Xorg or the nvidia module, but
you can get on with life, just without running high-res on the
framebuffer.

BTW, you cannot actually set the text-mode resolution with vga= I
seem to get 80x25 text mode regardless of what is set at vga=0x???. I
don't know if this is because of grub2 faults, or if intstead, these
text modes have been disabled in the newer kernels. grub2 itself will
fail for vga=ask.

[Bug 604501] Re: A second Maverick installation, in top of Windows/Maverick won't add a grub entry for self

2010-08-04 Thread Ara Pulido
I cannot access to that config file now (the system is no longer
installed), but the problem is that it does not add an entry for the
newly installed system (the second log).

After the installation of the first system we got:

Linux First (sda5)
Windows 7

After the installation of the second system we got:

Linux First (sda5)
Windows 7

(without an entry for the second system, installed at sda7)

[Bug 605543] Re: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe1 in position 0: unexpected end of data

2010-08-04 Thread Captain Chaos
The plot thickens. I've been looking at the code, and this happens while
decoding an HTML entity tag (such as aacute;). Apparently the problem
is not that the contents of the tweet are being decoded with the wrong
character encoding, but that the tweet contains entity tags, and
Python's htmllib is failing at converting those.

The line that fails is:

self.savedata = self.savedata + data

Where savedata is the content of the tweet so far, and data is the
character that corresponds to the entity tag, for instance an ë. I
wonder why Python feels the need to perform a UTF-8 conversion to
perform that concatenation. Any Python experts care to comment?
