[Bug 771824] [NEW] pointer speed/acceleration should be device specific, not generic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Different types of pointing devices behave differently, and so settings like acceleration and movement speed should be set by device rather than generically tied to pointer. For example, I'm using a ThinkPad x201. This has the IBM trackpoint (the red joystick nub in the keyboard), a touchpad and I am using a bluetooth Apple Magic Mouse. When I'm not using the bluetooth mouse, I typically use a combination of the pointer and the touchpad (for example, when working on a plane, or in a restaurant). These devices typically need a faster acceleration set to make pointer movements more efficient. So I set the acceleration higher to account for the much smaller surface area of the touchpad and the limited movement of the trackpoint. BUT, as soon as I connect my Magic Mouse, it takes on the same acceleration settings as I had set for the other devices, and becomes all but unusable because it's far faster by default when moving the pointer. So, the means that I, the user, must set the mouse properties manually every time I use one or the other. So when I don't have my bluetooth mouse connected, I have to set the acceleration up to compensate for the slow trackpoint/touchpad devices. when I do connect the mouse, I have to manually slow down the acceleration to make the mouse behave properly. Expected results: I should be able to set a profile for each pointing device with settings set accordingly. So I can set one set of parameters for the built-in devices and one set for my bluetooth mouse, and perhaps a third profile for a different USB mouse. Or at the very least, generic parameters set for decice TYPE. So built- in devices get one profile and config while external devices get another. [Bug 771698] Re: /usr/bin/id does not show ldap groups
I am unmarking this as a security issue. If a user is a part of a group that is listed in getent, the user is supposed to be in that group and any DAC checks should be checking for that. The fact that id shows fewer groups is not a security issue-- the user should have fewer privileges than with the intended ldap groups. [Bug 732677] Re: bcmwl 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu2 not work on BCM4311
The bcmwl-kernel-source package should have installed a very similar workaround as above when it installed. If your /etc/modprobe.d /blacklist-bcm43.conf is missing something like this at the end: blacklist b44 install wl modprobe -r b43 b44 b43legacy ssb; modprobe --ignore-install wl; modprobe --ignore-install b44 Then you should add it to the end of the file. I know the blacklist file is meant to be removed when the package is removed, but I recently noticed it's not actually removed/upgraded correctly when bcmwl-kernel-source is upgraded. So if you've; * had some version of that package installed since before 2009-06-19; or * if you for some reason didn't have b44 loaded when the package was being installed; or * if you had a lingering blacklist-bcm43.conf for any reason before the package was installed; then you will be missing the above workaround Alberto introduced in 2009. [Bug 771837] [NEW] xorg died (gracefully to login) but without ado
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I was using it normally (firefox, chrome, banshee, and also reading a PDF) when suddenly the X turned off, back to a textual background (as I would expected if I have pressed Ctrl+Alt+Bckspc, but I have not) and shortly after I was presented with the login screen again (gdm?) ... it has happened at least five time the last two weeks, but I was not sure if it was related with other issues I was also facing during the beta testing, but now I am sure it had nothing to do with anything else I was doing. The system is fully up to date (checked just after the issue, to be sure). I do not had a real step-by-step to reproduce the problem, as it seems to happen kind of out of the blue. Sice the first few times I have experience this issue I have installed a current kernel (not from apt-get) to try to solve something else (it did not seemed to have any influence on the current problem, as it happened before and after the upgrade anyway). I also suspect it might have something to do with intel drivers in xorg, but I am not skilled in x enough to even try this theory. [Bug 771840] [NEW] Software Center resize glitch with Unity
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I stumbled upon this bug after upgrading my W510 (early 2011 model) from Maverick to Natty. The bug is hard to describe, when you attempt to resize ubuntu software center window by pressing and holding the left mouse button over the bottom-right resize trigger the resize overlay (transparent representation of the new window size) is sometimes largely inaccurate, as if the resize trigger happened 30-50 pixels away from the point of click. At times I managed to reproduce this bug in a configuration where software center window was very small in the top-left corner of the screen and the resize attempt immediately moved the overlay (not the pointer) all the way to the bottom right of the screen (but not 100% full screen, just a lot). A video is attached to illustrate the issue. Please pay attention in the second half of the video, you can hear my mouse clicks to know when I press and release the left mouse button. Thank you for using Ubuntu and filing a bug. [Bug 770324] Re: DNS resolvers are not requested/learned from DHCPv6
There may be some differences brought from the version difference. Ubuntu Natty is still at isc-dhcp 4.1.1-P1-15ubuntu9; which is only slightly below the version from Debian: 4.1.1-P1-16.1. The latest upstream release appears to be DHCP 4.2.1-P1. We can update the packaging in Oneiric (or wait/ask for the Debian maintainers to update it), which will likely get the same behavior as 4.2.0 in Fedora. I haven't seen any of these details in release notes, but it's likely just been omitted. For now I'll reassign this to the 'isc-dhcp' package since there doesn't appear to be any issue with NetworkManager, just unexpected defaults for the DHCP client and server. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (mathieu-tl) = (unassigned) ** Package changed: network-manager (Ubuntu) = isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770324 Title: DNS resolvers are not requested/learned from DHCPv6 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 753971] Re: Display garbled upon restoring original resolution or connecting external displays
Hi all, Apologies for the delay testing this. First, without upgrading, I reproduced the bug by changing resolution to 800x600, waiting 5 seconds, and switching back up to 1366x768. With the OLD version of Unity, the bug still occurs as reported. Then I used the ppa to upgrade unity and libnux to these versions: ii libnux-0.9-0 0.9.48-0ubuntu1~ppa1 ii libnux-0.9-common0.9.48-0ubuntu1~ppa1 ii unity3.8.12-0ubuntu1~ppa1 I used the same procedure to try and reproduce the bug on four upgraded systems (Dell Inspiron 1545, Toshiba Tecra R700, HP ProBook 6550b and Sony Vaio VGN-Z540). On all the systems, the desktop and application windows restore correctly when coming to the original 1366x768 resolution. The only issue I could observe was that the top panel/menu bar doesn't restore; it's transparent, I can see a horizontal line delimiting its position but the background is visible where the panel should be. The panel is very easy to restore; basically moving any window, moving the pointer to where the panel should be, or even pressing certain keys (such as PrtScrn when I tried to get a screenshot) restores the panel. I'm attaching a picture of the invisible panel so you can see what I mean. Thanks so much to everyone involved for the work you've done on this problem! ** Attachment added: t2.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/753971/+attachment/2091569/+files/t2.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753971 Title: Display garbled upon restoring original resolution or connecting external displays -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 759545] Re: user prompted to update unmodified grub configuration during Ubuntu server upgrade
Release-noted: * In some cases (particularly if different kernel parameters from the default are in use), upgrades from Ubuntu 10.10 may prompt to resolve conflicts in the `/etc/default/grub` configuration file even when it has not been manually changed. Performing a three-way merge should normally be sufficient if presented with this prompt, although you should check afterwards to ensure that `/etc/default/grub` still looks correct. While we will attempt to make it as fast as possible, performance would be greatly improved if Firefox would render using surfaces that fit within the maximum renderable dimensions.
