[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus

2012-06-11 Thread papukaija
** Description changed:

- Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on large
- screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a small window
- somewhere near the low right corner you have to move the cursor all the
- way up to to panel to reach the menu. I understand why the global menu
- was used for the netbook edition (it saves space and most windows are
- maximized), but since Unity is intended to be for the desktop edition
- there should be an option to switch to the traditional position of the
- app menu. It would be welcomed by many desktop users.

+
+ IMPORTANT 2: Do not post anything if you haven't read all comments to

  A commonly suggested solution is:
   [ ] Global Menu on
   [ ] Global Menu off
[ ] Global Menu only for maximized windows
The default is usually suggested as either the first (on) or last (on only
for maximized windows).

  -
  Desired change:

Implement the 'Enhanced Menu' project for 12.10. This project will
address the issue described in this bug and also issues described in the
duplicates of this bus. Note this is the 'official' bug that tracks the
  implementation of this project.

The following options will be added to 'System Settings/Appearance':

  ---
  Menus
  Location:Global/Local
  Visibility: Hidden/Always displayed
  ---

More details to follow during the 12.10 cycle... ;-)

[Bug 480671]

2012-06-11 Thread Sgr33n
This is a very annoying bug. Many websites uses case sensitive logins,
Wordpress one of them. There's no way to insert a new login, even if you
don't want to store it. I tried everyting :P The only way is to access
to saved passwords menu and delete the wrong one.

[Bug 412647]

2012-06-11 Thread Pawsome
(In reply to Alessandro Decina from comment #296)

I'm waiting for the SDK to be ready (gonna be ready Any Day Now ;)), then my
plan is to integrate it in the build and start a discussion on how and where
to enable the gstreamer backend by default.

Just in case, SDK is out.

[Bug 412647]

2012-06-11 Thread Cpearce-t
(In reply to Sid from comment #298)
Just in case, SDK is out.
 http://gstreamer.com/

In the Windows installation instructions they recommend removing the
client app's dependency on MSVC2010's runtime DLL and using the “basic”
C runtime which comes in every Windows system since Windows XP, and is
named MSVCRT.DLL.

See:

Removing the dependency with the Visual Studio runtime
http://docs.gstreamer.com/display/GstSDK/Installing+on+Windows

We apparently ship with the MSVC 2010's RT, and switching runtimes makes
me nervous... Were we to ship this on Windows, we may be best to build
the SDK ourselves with MSVCRT2010 or get Collabora to build one with
MSVCRT2010.

2012-06-11 Thread Itaru Kitayama
Thank you @dannf. One of the recent Linaro u-boot releases, 2012.05
worked fine, now I can get to the prompt.

 % sudo qemu-system-arm -M highbank -m 1024 -kernel ~/projects/boot/u
-boot-linaro-stable/u-boot -serial stdio

If someone already has the qemu image, I wonder if we can share it.

[Bug 1002440] Re: Unity Launcher Fails To Auto-Hide When Enabled Installing Commercial Software

2012-06-11 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Here is my original comment from one of the duplicates:

Hi everyone!
I have the same problem here (I experienced it everytime I installed a Humble
Indie Bundle V game via the Ubuntu Software Center). It's right that it happens
only after the paying process.
I noticed I can hide the launcher again by holding the super key down (but I
also noticed another problem: the shortcut help doesn't appear when I press and
hold the super key).

Anyone has the same keyboard shortcut help problem?

[Bug 1011564] [NEW] the document contains more rows than supported in the selected format.

2012-06-11 Thread Chris B
Public bug reported:

Obtained result:

When saving a Calc spreadsheet in Excel format, the message

Warning saving the document xxx:
the document contains more rows than supported in the selected format.
Additional rows were not saved

appears.

However, the document only has 1100-or-so rows.

Expected result: no error message

- A similar bug has been reported upstream
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50471 but not actioned.
- There is an older bug https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=106083
reported against Openoffice.org which states this issue is caused by sheets
that have undefined Print Ranges, which are not truncated properly by the Excel
export filter.
- I confirmed that the error message does not show if the print ranges are
manually sized to the area of active cells.
- It appears that the issue returned in 3.5.3 having previously been fixed.

Can this bug be reported upstream by Ubuntu, as this report may carry
more weight than the single report on the freedesktop.org site?

[Bug 1009709] Re: printing text files - pdftops problem

2012-06-11 Thread Florin Manolache
The problem (character substitution) occurs only in the tests using
pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops

The printout is correct character-wise but shifted in the tests using
pdftops-renderer-default=gs

[Bug 930807] Re: [gm45] Intel GPU X4500 hung, screen corruption without total freeze

2012-06-11 Thread Bzzz
apport information

** Description changed:

  Hi,

just experienced the second (partial) crash of my graphics subsystem,
this time I'm able to report it instead of rebooting the machine, as the
remaining functionality is much greater this time...

Yesterday it happened within rssowl, scrolling down to an embedded gif
animation; this time it was just random surfing the web with firefox,
reading news at a hardware magazine. Screen goes blank for a moment,
afterwards characters go invisible or form blocks and special chars,
title bars of windows go black and buttons become unreadable (however,
stay functional). Within an already opened vmware machine, the mouse
pointer is just a rectangular mess of colorful pixels and some milder
screen corruption happens. Restarting applications does not fully
recover the state (but it cures over time). Some applications are
affected much stronger than others, rekonq (why do I have to report bugs
with rekonq?!) offers now full functionality, while content in firefox
was nearly unreadable. Will append photos if it occurs next time, as
there are no real artifacts left that would describe the initial
  problem.

Using Ubuntu precise (development branch) , Release:12.04

  xorg:
Installed: 1:7.6+10ubuntu1
(please ask me for specific packages, as I do not know which causes the issue)

  dmesg lines:

trimmed xorg log is attached. Maybe you can also spot the reason for a
logout overnight, as I left a locked session running and after returning
Kubuntu wanted me to log in. Firefox and others told me about a program crash,
so the session wasn't exited properly.

  /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state will also attached

[Bug 1011569] [NEW] Roman numerals aren't ordered

2012-06-11 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

In a library of songs containing album entries like Final Fantasy IX
and Final Fantasy VIII, 8 is put after nine because the sorting
mechanism is working alphabetically, saying 'I' comes before 'V'.

I propose that rhythmbox be taught that, as it would with numbers, it
should order roman numerals as well when sorting library entries.

[Bug 883105] Re: Lubuntu Network Manager option Share with other computer fails to work. 2of2 With eth connected

2012-06-11 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Do you mean network connection sharing in a way that your lubuntu sets
up DHCP/NAT server and routes traffic trough itself for other clients
connected through wlan? That is not fully supported in Network manager
yet.

More information on how to do this manually is available here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing

Also there are ideas about this in brainstorm:

[Bug 603415] Re: Unity should have a screen magnifier

2012-06-11 Thread Franck
I can confirm the problem. One of my colleagues has worthening vision problems.
Specialists send by the sécurité sociale speak of using ZoomText
(http://www.aisquared.com/zoomtext/more/zoomtext_magnifier) which is a paying
Windows only application...
Turning to my LUG, I've been sent to kwin zoom mode (kde), gnome3 accessibility
zoom. But no solution for Unity. Well, my colleague will probably switch to
another environment, but this should definitely be addressed (not to mention
cases where such features must be compulsory to compete in some gov calls for
tender).
My two cents...

[Bug 1011572] [NEW] gnome-power-statistics dislpays a blank window

2012-06-11 Thread Pascalio
Public bug reported:

When I open a gnome-power-statisics window (either by the icon on the top panel
or by the terminal), the first time every thing works fine, but if I close the
window and then reopen it (no matter how long after) the display is just blank,
only the window frame and control are there but absolutely no content. I can
try again as many time ever, no change. This may have to do with the fact, the
process is always running in the background and the second time a window is
asked for there is something wrong. If I artificially start another power
statistics process, like in another account using sudo, then I can get the
window to display content for the other times.
(and this has nothing to do with the presence of xfce software that appear in
the addition infos, it was happening before I installed them...)

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1007371] Re: Precise - bonding without link aggregation

2012-06-11 Thread Dvorak David
I'm sure that's bug, but I do not know if in kernel or bonding driver. Next - I
think, that is it critical bug. For corporate sector is bonding on server (I
think) very important and without link aggregation is that server in large
network unusable. For example, our network has about 100 PCs (~80 Thin client
and ~20 full PC) and throughput in this network is one of the decisive. So -
if 12.04 LTS server has bonding without link aggregation - in this case I can't
upgrade servers from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS.
As I described above, bonding in 10.04 LTS is O.K. - working as failover and as
link aggregation. But in Precise bonding is working only as failover. Link
agregation NOT WORKING. You can have several gigabit NICs in bonding, but total
throughput (bandwidth) to server is only ~1Gbps (for three NICs in Precise is
3x ~305 Mbits/sec, but for three NICs in Lucid is 3x ~925Mbps).
Precise server has :
- 3.2.0-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 21 16:52:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux
- Ethernet Channel Bonding Driver: v3.7.1 (April 27, 2011)
- config of bonding is above

I guess modemmanager should communicate with the new /dev/cdc-wdm0

[Bug 1011576] [NEW] Mac UK long-alu keyboard has wrong mapping for keypad-enter key

2012-06-11 Thread Paul Garner
Public bug reported:

Full details here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/148083/why-the-enter-key-in-a-mac-keyboard-is-mapped-to-level/149187

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04

Trying to use a Mac keyboard (full-size recent UK aluminium model) - the
keypad-enter key is mapped to 'Level' instead of 'KP_Enter'.

There is no need to map it to 'Level' since it seems the right-hand
'Alt' key is already mapped to that (which seems correct). The Enter key
should work as an Enter key though!

[Bug 1009657] Re: lp:~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu/hardy/apport/ubuntu is a branch of 'hal', not 'apport'

2012-06-11 Thread Martin Pitt
What are my options to do something about this? I can certainly remove
all current files from lp:ubuntu/hardy/apport, download the current
hardy apport source, add them to the branch, and push --overwrite. But
that would neither have any history, nor be compatible with the UDD
branch format. Isn't it possible to just delete the branch and have the
package importer re-import it again?

[Bug 1010451] Re: Cairo-dock takes 100% CPU.

2012-06-11 Thread Martin Bodin
Thank you for your answer!

As I don’t know myself what’s exactly happens, I do not see how to
reproduce it. I’ll make some tests as soon as I get some time to do
them…

Here is the informations given by “lspci” about my video card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98M [GeForce G 105M]
(rev a1)
I’m using the non-free Nvidia driver.

I’m not sure, but I think this is the first time I was experiencing this
bug… But I did not experienced it this week-end: I don’t know what did
change, though!

I’m afraid I do not have enough time right now to make a backtrace, but
the link you’re pointing gives enough informations to do it, thanks!
I’ve just installed the debug package and I’ll do a backtrace as soon as
I can.

The strangest things about this bug is that I’ve not found any way to
reproduce it for now… I’ll make some tests later.

Thanks for your help,
Martin.

[Bug 1007773] Re: wine installation requires removal of google earth

2012-06-11 Thread Darwin Survivor
It appears that they can both be installed if they are installed in the
opposite order.

1) Install google-earth (may not be required, but I already had it)
2) Install wine (it will remove google-earth)
3) Re-install google-earth

Interrestingly enough, step 3 did NOT remove wine! I now have both
installed, but I still feel there is a bug here somewhere's because it
shouldn't matter in which what order they are installed.

So, why has this bug been closed;marked as Opinion?

[Bug 1011587] [NEW] Cannot move files to Trash

2012-06-11 Thread florin
Public bug reported:

Nautilus reacts strange from the user's point of view: as long as it is
configured to move files to Trash, when I delete something, it should
always move files to Trash. But it does not react like this on some
occasions, I could not figure it out exactly.

One case is when I delete files from NTFS mounted partitions (local hard
disk). Another case seems to be when I delete files belonging to Root or
some other user (I think).

This does not make any sense. Either it puts all files in Trash, either it does
not, but for all the files I delete. This is unreliable reaction as I do not
know when I am safe to delete and recover a file and when I am not.

[Bug 1007371] Re: Precise - bonding without link aggregation

2012-06-11 Thread Thomas Ward
In regards to your saying this is a critical bug, I'll say this:
Lets all refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance for bug importance
criterion. Critical is not a valid importance for this bug.

Thanks to Dave Gilbert for setting this against linux i couldn't do
that yesterday because of an internet router that got fried.

From what I can tell this is handled in the kernel. With the
information that is here, I believe this can be marked as New again
since there's more than enough information here (and is not incomplete).

[Bug 1011564] Re: [upstream] the document contains more rows than supported in the selected format.

2012-06-11 Thread Chris B
On further experimentation I found that restricting the print area does
NOT remove the error message.

However, in the document used for testing, a template file prepared as
follows gives the error, tested with Libreoffice 3.5.4_2 from PPA and
3.5.3:

- new document
- fill column A with data using fill/increment for a hundred or so rows.
- Select column header and give all cells borders (which extend the to the rows
limit), or perform other formatting to the entire column, such as background
fill
- save as .xls format

Result: unsupported rows

If the cell formatting is restricted to the active area, the error
message does not show.

It appears that the range of formatted cells is not truncated by the
Excel export filter, giving rise to an error for the formatting over 64k
rows.

Unfortunately this technique of cell formatting is in common use by
spreadsheet users to avoid selecting a specific area in their document.

[Bug 1011587] Re: Cannot move files to Trash

2012-06-11 Thread florin
A add a screenshot this test case: I run LAMPP on this computer and it
is installed in /opt/lampp. The standard installation makes it belonging
to root user. The subfolder htdocs belongs to my user and in htdocs
folder I have multiple folders, that also belong to my user (florin).

cd /opt/lampp
ls -al
drwxrwxr-x 33 florin florin 4096 Jun 11 15:27 htdocs

cd htdocs
ls -al
drwxrwxr-x 33 florin florin 4096 Jun 11 15:27 .
drwxr-xr-x 18 root root4096 Apr 27 20:53 ..
drwxrwxr-x 2 florin florin 4096 Jun 11 15:32 Untitled Folder

So, if I delete the Untitled Folder, I cannot use the Trash, although it
belongs to my user (the '..' of the parent folder belongs to root).

See the delete dialog: 'Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete
immediately? - The file Untitled Folder cannot be moved to the trash.'
