[Bug 1049123] [NEW] sssd fails to resolve names properly; replacing 'id_provider' by 'domain_type' in sssd.conf fixes it, but this is documented nowhere
Public bug reported: After upgrading sssd from the 12.04 to the quantal version, 1.9.0~beta6-0ubuntu1, sssd no longer works properly. 0. In sssd.conf I have two domains configured, named 'LOCAL' and 'SAMBA' where the latter uses a Samba 4 beta2 AD LDAP server. 1. While getent passwd lists all expected users from passwd and LDAP, getent passwd username produces no output and id username results in id: username: No such user, etc. 2. Running sssd interactively (sssd -i -d 0x) and trying id foo for user foo in the LDAP directory produces some interesting debugging output. === BEGIN === (Tue Sep 11 15:20:10 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_parse_name_for_domains] (0x0200): name 'foo' matched without domain, user is foo (Tue Sep 11 15:20:10 2012) [sssd[nss]] [nss_cmd_getpwnam] (0x0100): Requesting info for [foo] from [ALL] (Tue Sep 11 15:20:10 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_dp_issue_request] (0x0400): Issuing request for [0x42e390:domains@LOCAL] (Tue Sep 11 15:20:10 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_dp_get_domains_msg] (0x0400): Sending get domains request for [LOCAL][not forced][] (Tue Sep 11 15:20:10 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_dp_internal_get_send] (0x0020): BUG: The Data Provider connection for LOCAL is not available!(Tue Sep 11 15:20:10 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_dp_issue_request] (0x0020): The request has disappeared? === END === 3. getent passwd username@LDAP *does* produce output (where username is in the LDAP directory). 4. sssd works properly again if, in the [domain/LOCAL] section of sssd.conf the line id_provider = local is replaced by the line domain_type = local Then the debugging output looks like the following === BEGIN === (Tue Sep 11 15:31:39 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_parse_name_for_domains] (0x0200): name 'foo' matched without domain, user is foo (Tue Sep 11 15:31:39 2012) [sssd[nss]] [nss_cmd_getpwnam] (0x0100): Requesting info for [foo] from [ALL] (Tue Sep 11 15:31:39 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_dp_issue_request] (0x0400): Issuing request for [0x42e390:domains@SAMBA] (Tue Sep 11 15:31:39 2012) [sssd[nss]] [sss_dp_get_domains_msg] (0x0400): Sending get domains request for [SAMBA][not forced][] (Tue Sep 11 15:31:39 2012) [sssd[be[SAMBA]]] [be_get_subdomains] (0x0400): Got get subdomains [not forced][] (Tue Sep 11 15:31:39 2012) [sssd[be[SAMBA]]] [be_get_subdomains] (0x0100): Undefined backend target. [Bug 1046461] Re: [UIFe] UOA integration needs to support multiple accounts
Hi Adam, and sorry for the late reply. I didn't explain the issue properly, so I'll try again. :-) The current situation is: 1) The user chooses a picture and chooses the Publish option from the menu 2) A dialog appears, showing a combobox with the available services, and a login button 3) (optional) The user chooses the desired service, if different from the already selected one 4) The user clicks on the login button 5) (if the OAuth token has expired) A modal dialog (created in the signon-ui process) pops up, embedding the website login page for OAuth 6) Account informations are retrieved 7) The publishing dialog is ready: the user can change some options, if desired, and start the upload. Now, point 6 takes some time to execute, and point 5 is even heavier, because besides taking some time, it requires user interaction. If we remove the login step, and attempt to login automatically, points 5 and 6 will be executed automatically as the user starts publishing, and whenever he changes the publishing service. Now, suppose that the pre-selected service is not what the user wants. There's the risk that the OAuth dialog from step 5 would appear, prompting the user to login to a service which he doesn't want to use. Sure, the user can cancel it and continue selecting another service, but it seems better to me to avoid starting logging in to a service which the user might not want to use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1046461 Title: [UIFe] UOA integration needs to support multiple accounts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1046461/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1049065] Re: Can't compile kernel modules for virtualbox
dkms remove vboxguest/3.2.10 --all didn't help, but your hint was pretty good. I had to remove all virtualbox packages and then delete things from /usr/src and /var/lib/dkms, then reinstall, to get it working. No idea where this stuff came from, since there was no package claiming ownership, and there has never been software on this machine except through debian-packages. So I don't know where this old stuff came from. I also wonder why the machine was working well just some days ago, but failed after recent update. [Bug 1049133] [NEW] brasero process hangs if launched selecting it from contextual menu on .iso file
Public bug reported: If you want to burn an iso it is simple to do it launching brasero from contextual menu opened doing right click of the mouse just on .iso file. The problem is that at the end of the burning processo it seems that you cannot open brasero anymore. The real fact is that with the above steps brasero parent process is init (number 1) and at the end of burning it hangs. Next time you try to launch brasero a process is already running so nothing is launched. You can simply try it with these simple step: - create an .iso - right click on it and select open with brasero - type a ps on a terminal (you will find parent process of brasero is init) - press cancel button - if you type agains a ps the process is always running - launch brasero from command line: you will see * (brasero:16807): WARNING **: An instance of Brasero is already running, exiting Tested with brasero 3.4.1 on Ubuntu 12.04 (x86_64). ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049133 Title: brasero process hangs if launched selecting it from contextual menu on .iso file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/1049133/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1009312] Re: GPU loads unreliably, possible kernel timeout
Arrrgh, spoke too soon. After several reboots that went fine, I just booted up the computer, the splash screen failed to show, and I'm now in Unity 2D without my GPU. I'm really out of ideas as to what could be going on. I diffed the dmesg logs again, and after the times have been stripped, the only difference before the video device fails to boot is that the chip is detected as being at slightly different frequencies (fraction of a MHz) and the boot time is obviously different. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1009312 Title: GPU loads unreliably, possible kernel timeout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1009312/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 988079] Re: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz
** Description changed: + [Test Case] + Performance issue - just checking if performance in OpenGL applications with Unity loaded are normal. + + [Regression Potential] + Visual regressions, shell drawing problems. Part of a big change, many regression potentials. + + Original description: + The main problem is that OpenGL apps run slower with unityshell compared to plain compiz (Gnome Classic). In extreme cases, running glmark2 under Unity only achieves 0-3 FPS. Yet on the same machine reports frame rates of several hundred FPS in Gnome Classic. See comments #28-#30. In other cases, game performance is OK but still visibly worse under Unity. ioquake3 drops in frame rate by around 20% in Unity compared to plain Compiz in Gnome Classic (see duplicate bug 1005074). ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: On my Z600, with a fresh Precise installation, after installing the NVIDIA driver 295.40 (same version as in gPrecise), glxgears runs extremely slowly full-screen. When running on Precise, Chrome's GPU accelerated rendering path produces correct results, albeit extremely slowly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988079 Title: Much slower OpenGL frame rates with unityshell loaded, than plain compiz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubutter/+bug/988079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1049144] [NEW] Fix Brasero user experience
Public bug reported: My first experience using Brasero to burn a DVD is awful, and since it is the default tool shipped with Ubuntu, should be revised by the QA team. What I want: Burn a mp4 movie transcoded as DVD. What I get: Obscure dialog messages, packages needed to be installed via the terminal, and tons of error messages. Chronicle: From Brasero I selected the Video Project, dragging a mp4 file to the Window. Brasero recognized the file just fine, and I pushed the Burn button. First message I received was Installing packages by files isn't supported. Closing that, I get another dialog with some instructions: Please install the following manually and try again: mplex (GStreamer plugin), dvdauthor. Just for testing, I searched for this packages on the Ubuntu Software Center. None found. Then I searched for Brasero, opening the more info, taking a look at the Add-ons section. None. Time for some Terminal work. sudo apt-get install dvdauthor was easy, but I could not find mplex. Since the message says it is a GStreamer plugin, I searched on Google and found that the plugin is part of the gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse, so I installed that. Closing Brasero, opening it again, now it ask for vcdimager, but odd enough, it autoinstalls the package. First try, Brasero stopped just before burning anything with a log message: Checking session consistency (brasero_burn_check_session_consistency brasero-burn.c:1739) - Session error : An internal error occurred (brasero_burn_record brasero-burn.c:2856) Second try, Brasero starts to transcode, and then burn the DVD, but it stop with another log message: 27 - Some files may be corrupted on the disc. I ended installing Bombono, that worked just fine on the first try. My thoughts: Bugs aside, the experience is not good. Even an advanced user could have problems trying to install the dependencies. If the userflow can't be fixed, better to disable the Video Project option. ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049144 Title: Fix Brasero user experience To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/1049144/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

We have tested the fix in the development version that we're planning on releasing in April 26th and have found no problems. + With the big diff, the regression potential might be a bit bigger for precise. == Original Report == The unity launcher is reliably corrupted upon resume from suspend with some (all?) NVidia hardware with the proprietary NVidia driver. All other visual elements seem to draw correctly, it's just the unity launcher that has this problem. The launcher looks fine after it redraws (for example, if you mouse over it). [Bug 1044035] Re: UIFe: Checkbox header image is wrong
Al 11/09/12 15:32, En/na Daniel Manrique ha escrit: Hello! I'm writing again to request a UI Freeze Exception for checkbox. Currently checkbox in Ubuntu has a wrong header image as can be seen here: http://people.canonical.com/~roadmr/header-bad.png We'd like to replace it with this, which is present in the development version but got left behind during a merge due to an oversight (apologies): http://people.canonical.com/~roadmr/header-good.png This new header image works better with the default Ubuntu theme and also takes care of usability concerns, where testers were unsure if the icons on the old header image are clickable. No translatable strings are involved or changed; the system testing string on the right is already in the .pot file and didn't change. Also there's no change to checkbox's functionality. The corresponding bug report is this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/checkbox/+bug/1044035 Thanks! - Daniel Hi Daniel, A couple of cycles ago I filed a bug requesting the header text to be translatable, which was eventually fixed in Checkbox. I now see the untranslated System Testing string in the header again, even though it is translated in Launchpad. So I assume that this has regressed and we're back to non-translatable static text (or perhaps it is a consequence of the of this bug). Would it not be possible to e.g. reuse the Software Center code already has for its banners? Visually it'd be identical and the default banner's text (Our star apps) on the SC is fully translatable already. Right now, the System Testing text says nothing to non-English speakers, and it feels a bit out of place in a desktop that is otherwise fully translated. Thanks. Cheers, David. [Bug 1049144] Re: Fix Brasero user experience
** Description changed: My first experience using Brasero to burn a DVD is awful, and since it is the default tool shipped with Ubuntu, should be revised by the QA team. None. - Time for some Terminal work. sudo apt-get install dvdauthor was easy, but I could not find mplex. Since the message says it is a GStreamer plugin, I searched on Google and found that the plugin is part of the gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse, so I installed that. + Time for some Terminal work. sudo apt-get install dvdauthor was easy, but I could not find mplex. [Bug 1046461] Re: [UIFe] UOA integration needs to support multiple accounts
Alberto, I find that it is uncommon that the Oauth token has expired. I have never been prompted to login on the website before publishing, so clicking the login button seems pointless. If the OAuth web site is truly a pop-up, I can see the problem with automatically launching it, since it would get in the way and steal focus. I think this could be fixed by either - embedding the web site in the form, so that it doesn't steal focus or block the UI. [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render() from brw

The black-screen-lock happens either on sleep- resume and even after just locking the keyboard (lock, wait till display goes to sleep, move the mouse, display wakes up, mouse cursor visible, but nothing works). Re: [Bug 1033695] Re: External HDMI Monitor does not get detected / invalid EDID checksum
Updating my monitor's firmware fixed this issue, so I think it's rather a legit message than a bug, however, useful information could be extracted from the EDID data, so maybe some looser checking could be used.
