[Bug 1248763] Re: incorporate patches for sliding window support

2013-11-07 Thread Jamin W. Collins
The addition of sliding window support makes gvfs sftp transfers behave
more like openssh sftp file transfers, resulting a significant
throughput increase for connections with moderate to high latency (see
below).

The hang is being handled within one of the original bug reports, specifically:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=532951.

I'm testing updated patches to see if they resolve the hang.

From the referenced bug reports:
==  PULL ==
Some benchmark figures:
Old behavior:
Copying from local server = 6.1MB/s
Copying from local server with 250ms of RTT latency = 0.251MB/s
Copying many small files with 250ms of RTT latency = 0.64 files per second

New behavior:
Copying from local server = 13MB/s
Copying from local server with 250ms of RTT latency = 6.6MB/s
Copying many small files with 250ms of RTT latency = 1.24 files per second

OpenSSH sftp client:
Copying from local server = 14.2MB/s
Copying from local server with 250ms of RTT latency = 6.4MB/s
Copying many small files with 250ms of RTT latency = 1.34 files per second

== PUSH ==
Some benchmark figures:
Old behavior:
Copying from local server = 6.1MB/s
Copying from local server with 250ms of RTT latency = 0.249MB/s
Copying many small files with 250ms of RTT latency = 0.93 files per second

New behavior:
Copying from local server = 12.2MB/s
Copying from local server with 250ms of RTT latency = 6.2MB/s
Copying many small files with 250ms of RTT latency = 1.24 files per second

OpenSSH sftp client:
Copying from local server = 12.8MB/s
Copying from local server with 250ms of RTT latency = 6.7MB/s
Copying many small files with 250ms of RTT latency = 1.33 files per second

[Bug 1245216] Re: Kubuntu-settings-desktop makes the Grub lose the translations

2013-11-07 Thread Harald Sitter
Most certainly not. Please file a bug against grub. It seems very
strange that it would work with update-grub manually though since a new
kernel would as far as I know also simply call update-grub.

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-11-07 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
I've never had 100% CPU usage, only some kind memory leak that unity-
panel-service slowly uses more and more memory. After the new packages
the situation is better, but still, memory usage of unity-panel-service
is increasing over the time needs to be killed at some point to allow to
be re-loaded with acceptable memory usage again. Again: not so much CPU
usage problem here, and it wasn't the case for me either, only the
memory usage.

Bug #1242735 is my original report (which is now a duplicate of this
one) for more information.

[Bug 1241745] Re: [regression] Changing the screen brightness does not work anymore in 319.xx

2013-11-07 Thread Daniel Dadap
Not to my knowledge: that changelog entry refers to adding an additional
interface via the NV-CONTROL API to the existing backlight
functionality. The problem is that the existing backlight functionality
is now broken on some laptops, so it doesn't make a difference whether
it's exposed through a new API or not.

[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2013-11-07 Thread Daniel Dadap
Sorry, I don't have any ideas. I don't think we've seen anything like
this either; we'd probably need a machine that uses the same touchpad or
touchpad driver.

If the Nouveau driver also supports the RandR 1.4 provider source
capability, it might be an interesting experiment to configure PRIME
with Nouveau - modesetting to see if it's a generic interaction between
the touchpad driver and RandR 1.4. Alternatively, it might be useful to
attempt configuring an X screen on the Intel GPU using the modesetting
driver and no offloading, to see if it's a general interaction between
the touchpad driver and the modesetting X driver. That should be a lot
easier to set up.

Or... another possibility would be to try configuring the offloading
with the Intel driver as the provider output instead of the modesetting
driver. I can't remember the specific problems we ended up having with
the Intel driver that led us to recommend the modesetting driver in the
README instead, but if the Intel driver works as an output for you, and
the problem is due to an interaction between the modesetting and
touchpad drivers, then this may be a way to avoid the problem.

These are all just wild guesses though; I don't have any good ideas as
to why this might be happening.

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-11-07 Thread Jarno Suni
I instructed to download the script to /usr/local/bin/ since you don't
have to overwrite the original lxlock script in /usr/bin/ in that case,
but it will be used instead of the original, if the /usr/local/bin is
before /usr/bin in PATH environment variable (and not full path is used
in the command to launch lxlock). You can type echo $PATH in terminal
to see, if that is the case in your OEM installation. If you don't have
/usr/local/bin/lxlock, but overwrite lxlock in /usr/bin, a possible
update of lxsession may overwrite the workaround script.

For some reason there is lxlock in /usr/bin/X11/, too, but it seems to
be identical to the version in /usr/bin/.

[Bug 767752] Re: Unity Windows return to the wrong place in multi-moniter

2013-11-07 Thread Stephen M. Webb
Well, it's not actually released upstream in Unity yet (yeah, I know,
weird right? Ubuntu does rolling releases of certain projects even
though the upstreams do not, which can get hellaconfused for folks not
intimately involved, and also for some who _are_ intimately involved).
No biggie, though.

My Launcher is set to Autohide.
The Launcher hides correctly but the Background-Color is still visible.

The Color is the one set in CCSM für Unity→General→Background Color.
(see attached Screenshot)

If i chnage the hide-animation to Fade only then there is only a ~1-2
pixel wide line.

I have the problem since i upgraded from precise to saucy.

[Bug 970758] Re: Right Click on the Menu will make it frozen and will never disappear unless you click back on the Menu's icon

2013-11-07 Thread salama
I also confirm it.
The menu usually disappears when one clicks away from it, but this doesn't
happen if we right-clicked something on the menu, triggering the (ADD TO
DESKTOP - PROPERTIES) form.

When we trigger the said form, the focus of the system in turned to it,
forgetting the Menu.. so when we finish with the form the menu forgets
to excute the usual command of (if user clicks away from the Menu, close
it).

I hope this helps solving the problem.

The fix for that should be in the trusty kernel I believe mid-next week.

Would you mind opening a new bug against lxc saying that if the
container is in profile lxc-start, and apparmor support is lacking,
it must run unconfined or refuse to run?

[Bug 1248730] Re: touchpad detected as ImExPS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse

2013-11-07 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.12 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-11-07 Thread sudodus
echo $PATH
/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games

so /usr/local/bin is before /usr/bin in my user's path.

But what about root's path? Maybe /usr/bin/lxlock will be used that way?
-
 /usr/bin/lxlock:
...
# Try to lock the screen with thos applications (in this order) :
# lighdtm, xscreensaver, gnome-screensaver, slock, slock, i3lock and
xdg-screensaver

seat=$XDG_SEAT_PATH
dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.DisplayManager
$seat org.freedesktop.DisplayManager.Seat.SwitchToGreeter \
  2 /dev/null
elif test x`which xscreensaver-command 2/dev/null` != x; then

elif test x`which gnome-screensaver-command 2/dev/null` != x; then

elif test x`which xlock 2/dev/null` != x; then
xlock $*
elif test x`which i3lock 2/dev/null` != x; then
i3lock -d
# In the end, try to fallback to xdg-screensaver. Don't do at the first try,
# because if lxlock is called by xdg-screensaver, we may enter a loop.
else
xdg-screensaver lock

[Bug 1248310] Re: libsoup has some issues recognizing its own objects

2013-11-07 Thread Martin Pitt
How can this crash be reproduced? pygobject was bumped from 3.10.0 to
3.10.1 in trusty, with these changes:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/pygobject/3.10/pygobject-3.10.1.news
. None of them particularly stands out as being able to break this, but
to confirm, could you downgrade to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygobject/3.10.0-1ubuntu1/+build/5094584/+files/python3-gi_3.10.0-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
and verify that it works again? (The regression might also have come
through something else, although libsoup, gobject-introspection, and
glib didn't change)

** Changed in: pygobject (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1249002] [NEW] Grub lose the translation in Kubuntu when a new version of the kernel is installed/uninstalled

2013-11-07 Thread moray33
Public bug reported:

First of all, I noticed that Grub is shown in English in my PC with
Kubuntu but in a netbook with Xubuntu is translated (to Spanish in my
case), then I found out that this issue occurs when the package kubuntu-
settings-desktop (that includes a script that change the word 'Ubuntu'
for 'Kubuntu' in the Grub) is installed, if I uninstall it the Grub is
shown in Spanish. So, I reported the Bug #1245216 and it seemed that the
issue was solved since when I update manually the Grub (sudo update-
grub) it doesn't lose the translation, but every time I
install/uninstall a new version of the kernel I lose the translation
again. So, it doesn't seem that this issue is caused by that script.

[Bug 304477] Re: Ctrl-L is a poor keybinding for Clear

2013-11-07 Thread C. Michael Pilato
Using 2.8.8-7ubuntu2, I tried creating a custom key binding to
workaround this change. The dialog box would not accept any input for
the Data 1 item. Tried to workaround *that* by editing
~/.xchat2/keybindings.conf directly, adding the following block:

{{{

C
l
Run Command
D1:/CLEAR
D2!
}}}

This did at least show my keybinding in the dialog when next I started
xchat, but alas, it still didn't actually work.

Re: [Bug 995165] Re: IPv4 connectivity broken after installing from ubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64.iso

2013-11-07 Thread Maurice Johnson
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my email. I would have solved this
issue had I had direct internet connection. Unfortunately for me the only
connections I have had access to lately is wifi via coffee houses! I plan
to get with a direct connection so that I could access to updates! If I
have any more trouble I'll send you an email.

Thanks,

 ** Description changed:

networks are becoming more frequent; this issue affects installations of
the Desktop image from the alternate image (or using d-i in any other way)
when IPv6 autoconfiguration or DHCPv6 is used. These installations will
fail to recognize that the interface should be managed by NetworkManager
after the installation because only the iface X inet dhcp line would be
commented out, leaving another valid iface X line for inet6 causing
NetworkManager to ignore the device. The solution was to comment out all
lines in /etc/network/interfaces pertaining to interface X: auto X,
 iface X inet, and iface X inet6.
 -

   [Test Case]
1a) With IPv6 autoconfiguration (for example, using radvd) or DHCPv6
 available on the network:
1b) With no IPv6 available on the network:
   2) Install Ubuntu from the alternate CD; or using d-i via a netboot
 image.
   3) After the installation:
 - a) Verify that NetworkManager properly handles all interfaces.
 - b) Verify that the network interfaces configuration is commented out in
 /etc/network/interfaces.
 -
+ a) Verify that NetworkManager properly handles all interfaces.
+ b) Verify that the network interfaces configuration is commented out in
 /etc/network/interfaces.

   [Regression Potential]
Untypical configurations may find devices that should be ignored by
NetworkManager to be handled by it. Standard installations could fail to
comment the necessary information from /etc/network/interfaces to allow for
NetworkManager to do is job; or the file could be mangled to remove the
lo interface, which would make unrelated services fail.

   ---

   To reproduce:
 - - Download ubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64.iso, sha256sum:
 f8d54df0afbab6a6248f6e2bcab3e68f01c04d52b0bb1f889d880ad3bc881ccb
 + - Download ubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64.iso
   - Burn it to a USB flash drive from a completely up-to-date Ubuntu 10.04
 LTS with UNetbootin
   - Install on a machine with both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity
   - Log in to the newly installed system

   Current behaviour:
   - There is no IPv4 connectivity
   - NetworkManager doesn't show the wired interface in its dropdown

   Expected behaviour:
   - There is IPv4 connectivity
   - NetworkManager does show the wired interface in its dropdown

   Thoughts:
I suspect this is because during the install my /etc/network/interfaces
 was created like so:
   ---BEGINS---
   # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
   # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

   # The loopback network interface
   auto lo
   iface lo inet loopback

   # The primary network interface
   auto eth0
   iface eth0 inet dhcp
   # This is an autoconfigured IPv6 interface
   iface eth0 inet6 auto
   ---ENDS---

   Then network-manager-0.9.4.0/debian/ifblacklist_migrate.sh mutates the
file to comment out a single line like so:
   #NetworkManager#iface eth0 inet dhcp

   i.e. the line
   iface eth0 inet6 auto
   remains intact

This means that the /etc/network/interfaces file gives me IPv6
connectivity but not IPv4 connectivity. Furthermore, because there is
an uncommented iface eth0 inet6 line, NetworkManager doesn't show me the
   interface in its dropdown.

   To fix:
   - The regular expression needs to be changed so that the iface eth0
inet6 auto line is also commented out

[Bug 1249008] [NEW] iwlwifi kernel driver does not obey power saving settings

2013-11-07 Thread Jason Straight
Public bug reported:

Poor ping times (high latency) can be observed after unplugging from a
power source.

To recreate this issue start by disabling power saving and hw encryption
while your laptop is plugged in.

Power saving can be turned off at module load time, or with iwconfig
[dev] power off

rmmod iwldvm iwlwifi modprobe iwlwifi power_save=0 swcrypto=1
power_level=1

Will remove the driver and re-insert with power saving off and sw
encryption on.

start a ping to your router

Watch latency; should be 3ms or so.

Unplug laptop from power and watch latency rise to 60+ ms

To get reliable networking again, either plug laptop back in or re-issue
commands to disable power saving.

Changing the power state of the machine changes the power state of the
nic regardless of setting. What I've found is that setting power saving
to on/off puts the card in power saving state instead of disabling or
enabling based on power source.

If you unplug your machine you must re-issue the commands to disable
power saving.

On saucy that's because you're using 0.600.4-2ubuntu2 and not
0.600.4-2ubuntu2.1, make sure you're running the version from proposed
and try again.
