Re: [ttf-mscorefonts-installer] synaptic still rises error messages

Hi Nils,

it sounds correct. But on the other hand downloading the fonts per wget
and simply reconfiguring the packet worked without any further errors.
That is what I meant. Ubuntu is indeed a debian derivative and using
debian packages should be working, but ...

An error message at the very end of a long list of accomplished
messages. Annoying! I don't understand it. I mean the required file is
in that directory and I installed it as root. Why is there a
permission problem?

The directory /root (including subdirectories) is only accessible by
root and obviously the installer tried to access the file as another
user (_apt).

Hi Gunnar, the 17. post helped. wget the fonts and reconfigure the
package. Now it works. Thanks

Hi Hugh,

I'm not that familiar with linux, so I'm not able to understand the full
impact of installing a debian package in an Ubuntu system. I found it
too risky, so I didn't dare it on my main system. Of course I know
Ubuntu is debian derivative. It should work, but ...

No professional, but one of the easiest solutions is to use the 3.6
ttf-mscorefonts-installer package rather than the 3.4 version.

wget
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/m/msttcorefonts/ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb
-P ~/Downloads

will download the package to your Downloads folder, and

sudo apt install ~/Downloads/ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb

will install the package.

That is, if you are using at least Ubuntu 16.04, if using an earlier
version install the .deb package with gdebi, Software Centre or
whatever you use to install local deb packages.

Uh ... I've forgotten something.

sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer comes back with this error
message:

Err:1 http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts/andale32.exe

E: Download Failed

I perfectly know that a Microsoft exe is not executable on a linux
system, but I think synaptic is facing the same issue and constantly
rises the error message.

I've already done some google searches and did some removings,
reinstallations, dpkg-reinstallations and -reconfigurations, accepted
the EULA bla bla bla. But none of them solved the issue. After a short
time synaptic still comes up with that error message. I checked the
dependencies and figured out that a lot of other packets need it, so I
think a deinstallation is no valid solution.

That's why I'm now asking the professionals. Do you have any idea what
to do?
