[ubuntu-art] New Theme
Hi everybody, first thing I'll ask is to forgive my English, I'm French. It has been said on the french forum that Ubuntu was actually very ugly. Go to your friends's houses, boot on the Live CD and you'll see most of them saying creepy ! I'll keep Vista !. And we have to admit that the only good thing in Vista is the Aero interface. No need to talk about OSX, it has always been quite beautiful, and no wonder why the most downloaded themes on Gnome-Look.org are some OSX look-alike ones. Now check Ubuntu's default themes. Human and Glossy are correct, other ones are really old and ugly. On the seven themes integrated, two looks correct, but still old, and the other ones are just as beautiful as Win95. Why can't we add a few modern themes ? Just one or two, that could replace the Crux or Glider themes (have a look). See, Ubuntu aims to be a distro for everyone. Mr Everyone is not stupid, but still he's often a n00b :D . So the thing he's gonna look first is design. How to convince Mr Everyone Ubuntu's a great OS ? By showing him a nice design, something that looks clear, simple and efficace. Then everything will Just Work and all this on a nice theme :). Now, the solutions. If everyone agrees of course. I've talked a little with Brian Ward (author of this nice orb : http://www.brianward.us/myspace/public/ubuntu-orb.png :) and agreeing to what I just said, we told that creating a totally new theme would be some really hard work, and with the tons of themes available on Gnome-look.org, would be time wasted. So what we thought was to make a selection of the best themes on Gnome-look.org (Aero and OSX-like excluded of course), then try to mix everything in a new, fresh, modern themes. Your theme is cool, I personally don't like the fonts, but it's clear and simple. Could easily replace one of the default theme of Ubuntu. But still, Im sure we can find something more eye candy. Hi all, I suggest that someone create a new theme along these lines. We can certainly include it in Gutsy, even if only a downloadable package from Universe. Well, I can't join, as I am not an artist. But I would like to suggest you that though Aero is not a that much good theme for work, just eyecandy, but OSX looks simple, clean, high contrast and non-boring (original OSX Theme). So, when you are designing a new theme, concentrate over these keywords. Clearlooks too was such great hit because of it. Software updates
I've uploaded a few new packages this week. The first is telepathy-haze. This is a telepathy contact manager based on libpurple, the protocol library provided by Pidgin (formerly gaim). This provides a fairly solid implementation of the MSN and AIM protocols which are usable by any telepathy client. Empathy and derivatives need new profiles to be able to make use of this - I've updated the empathy package in Ubuntu to contain these. The package is currently in the NEW queue, but should be available early next week. The second is contacts-snapshot. This is a copy of the current development branch of Opened Hand's contacts application, chosen because it has some basic Hildon support. There's currently no widget for adding or editing contacts, but I'll be working with upstream over the weekend to implement some of this with a bit of luck. Again, this is currently in the NEW queue. Finally, I've added hildon support to cheese. This is a simple photography application which is also able to apply effects to photographs. There's some basic level of video recording there as well, but we probably want to consider whether that's going to make sense on the target platforms. I've thrown a screenshot up at http://www.codon.org.uk/~mjg59/hildon/cheese_hildon.png and uploaded the source to Ubuntu. The hildon interface is only built for the lpia architecture. This is already in the archive, but the lpia package isn't built yet - hildon support is provided in version 0.2.2-0ubuntu2. Hello Friends, Here is a problem statement: Some people with me were working on a project which has many subprojects. We people are distributed in seperate VPNs (doesn't matter much, just for information). For this our personal project, we were using a small part in company's CVSNT server and TortoiseCVS client (me only using Ubuntu and linux cvsnt client). Our project work is mainly based on Java, Perl and little PHP using Mysql and XML data. Now, we want to open that peoject to Internet, But there is only little options we can do. We need a Web Interface to CVSNT, where -people can browse the CVS repository tree, in browser (XHTML/CSS/Javascript), and also committers who have the access (usernme/password) can commit their work through the browser. The question arises, why not to give access the repository using cvs clients. Since we are going to make the cvsnt repository access available to public, we have to setup the webserver and services to another computer which will access the local folder where remote cvs repository will be mounted using samba. Now, We did some search over the existing solution, but we cannt find any cvs to web package which will allow files and folder's commit available through the web-browser. So now, people here are along with many sub-projects to achieve this. So now these are the challenges which we are trying to find: - What are the complexity in migrating cvsnt repository on windows server 2003 to cvs (linux). - What are the complexity in migrating CVSNT repository on WINDOWS 2003 server to svn wndows/linux. - Which Revision control system would be the best in this condition if we want to migrate, CVS (linux/windows), SVN, Bazaar (BZR) or any other. - Can cvsnt be extended by any method, existing or any idea which can be worked on (like creating an interface to do so if possible). - Can cvs be extended to such, on Linux? any workarounds - Does svn or bzr have such things. etc. Goal to achieve: - Web Interface which can let user authenticate, and then browse the cvs tree, and user can download the modules. - Committing modules (edited or new) to cvs repo. - uploading multiple files (optionally by taking input the directory path in browser file upload text input box, which would upload all the files in directory. Please show us some light. If development is needed in such direction, we can do it provided the idea to achieve seems good one. All members in group are PHP, Perl, Java programmers, so we cannt work on C++ (limitation). I am desperately looking forward for you people's suggestion, and better ideas. Hi folks, I have just seen an article on The Register about someone who was sharing a copy of Star Wars via Bit torrent before it was released. It turns out he uses Ubuntu but has now been given the option of either not using his PC online or installing Windows to use the court ordered monitoring software. Don't get me wrong, he was sharing a movie illegally, but being forced to run Windows just so the monitoring softare will run seems a bit harsh. Hi folks, One of the guys on our local LUG list has been trying for ages to get a webcam for his Linux box running Ubuntu. Well it looks like he's found one. The Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX Plus is £24.99 at the moment at Argos and it supposedly it works really well and it's plug and play on Ubuntu Feisty 7.04! This has to be good news. I'm actually tempted to pick one up myself as the 'generic' rebranded cameras are a bit hit and miss from my experience. Rob My camera technically works but only shows as a blue and white image sort of like a negative picture. Ive tried using easycam but it doesnt seem to work. [Ubuntu-BR] Problemas na atualização
Bom dia lista! Após a instalação do Ubuntu 7.04 houve um problema na atualização (mais de cem arquivos) e parece que o arquivo afetado era algo relacionado com o gnome-alguma coisa. Hoje houve uma nova atualização e após o dowload apareceu uma mensagem de erro e não foi feita a atualização. Era algo com referência ao kde. Resolvi seguir seu conselho, alterei o script conforme sua indicacao.
Funcionou perfeitamente. O estranho dessa macro-substituicao eh que
em outro scripts funciona legal. Nao tenho problemas com as teclas CTRL+C,
pois utilizo:
# Desabilita Ctrl-c
trap 1 2 3 15
Quanto a sintaxe do sudoers, depois que coloquei a linha
spdter ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/poweroff,/sbin/shutdown
o comando gksu nautilus desixou de funcionar, porem o meu usuario já
consegue desligar o servidor.

echo Digite a senha : (caracteres nao serao visualizados)
echo (se voce der CTRL+C neste ponto terá que digitar reset no
prompt para ligar o echo novamente)
read password
stty echo # religando o echo
Será pouco provavel que voce tenha problemas novamente.

Porem, esta mesma configuracao nao funcionou no Ubuntu.
Quero dar permissao para o usuario desligar o servidor atraves deste
scripts.
02 - Nao consegui encontrar o problema da seguinte linha:
while read -s -n1 entrada [ ${entrada/[[:ctrl:]]/} ] (
Esta eh a linha 188 )
do echo -n \* senha=$senha$entrada;
done;
Erro que ocorre:
.sistemas: 188: syntax error: Bad substitution
Estes dois problemas, estao me impedindo de passar todos os meus sistemas
do conectiva 10 para ubuntu.
Se alguem puder ajudar, ou ate mesmo testar o scripts acima, fico grato.

Olá a todos! Gostaria de saber se alguém já conseguiu instalar a multifuncional Epson Stylus CX5600 no Ubuntu... A detecção é feita normalmente, mas não existe o driver específico para a CX5600. Outros como CX5400, CX5700, não funcionam. A multifuncional trava. Alguém poderia dar uma força? Abraços! Voce tem um jeito diferente de desabilitar o CTRL+C, eu faço assim,
acrescento no inicio do script :

As substituições são um problema, quando estão isoladas elas funcionam
razoavelmente bem, mas utilizadas com outros comandos ou dentro de
`...` dão galho. Eu já percebí isso e procuro contorna-los quando
possivel.

stty -echo# desligando o echo momentaneamente para entrada da senha
echo Digite a senha : (caracteres nao serao visualizados)
echo (se voce der CTRL+C neste ponto terá que digitar reset no
prompt para ligar o echo novamente)
read password
stty echo # religando o echo
Será pouco provavel que voce tenha problemas novamente.

Porem, esta mesma configuracao nao funcionou no Ubuntu.
Quero dar permissao para o usuario desligar o servidor atraves deste
scripts.
02 - Nao consegui encontrar o problema da seguinte linha:
while read -s -n1 entrada [ ${entrada/[[:ctrl:]]/} ] (
Esta eh a linha 188 )
do echo -n \* senha=$senha$entrada;
done;
Erro que ocorre:
.sistemas: 188: syntax error: Bad substitution
Estes dois problemas, estao me impedindo de passar todos os meus sistemas
do conectiva 10 para ubuntu.
Se alguem puder ajudar, ou ate mesmo testar o scripts acima, fico grato.

Legal esta forma de implementar crtl+c.
spdter ALL=NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown,/etc/inid.d/cupsys
A linha acima, esta no sudoers. Se logar com usuario spdter consigo desligar
o sistema.
/sbin/shutdown -h now
Porem nao consigo restart o cups:
/etc/init.d/cupsys restart
Poderia me confimar se o comando esta correto ?

while read -s -n1 entrada [ ${entrada/[[:ctrl:]]/} ] (
Esta eh a linha 188 )
do echo -n \* senha=$senha$entrada;
done;
Erro que ocorre:
.sistemas: 188: syntax error: Bad substitution
Estes dois problemas, estao me impedindo de passar todos os meus sistemas
do conectiva 10 para ubuntu.
Se alguem puder ajudar, ou ate mesmo testar o scripts acima, fico grato.

desmembra em duas linhas :
spdter ALL=NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown
spdter ALL=NOPASSWD:/etc/inid.d/cupsys
apenas para descolar os problemas, e sempre use o visudo para evitar
erros de sintaxe.
Se o usuário em questão só pode fazer restart do cupsys voce mudar a
linha para :
spdter ALL=NOPASSWD:/etc/inid.d/cupsys *restart*
Com respeito a cupsys não tenho idéia do porque não funciona, mas voce
como usuário comum ao usar :
sudo /etc/inid.d/cupsys restart
que mensagem de erro retorna ?

[Ubuntu-BR] Som no fone e na caixa de som (notebook hp dv2000)
tenho um note dv2000 no qual instalei o ubuntu 6.10 tudo estava bem.. atualizei para festy 7.04 beta 3. tudo estava bem. :-D instalei então o festy final. quase tudo está bem. o som teima em sair no fone de ouvido e na caixa de som ao mesmo tempo. Já vi que rolou na lsita umas dicas sobre isso para placas onboard intel, realtek... mas, para a conexant nada... se alguém tiver uma dica Abraço! -- :wq! Nao retorna erro algum, porem pede a senha do root.

Este usuario eu criei com a seguinte linha de comando:
sudo useradd spdter -g spd -m -G users,video,audio,cdrom,scanner,floppy -s
/bin/bash
Entao, percebi que um outro usuario chamado ubuntu conseguia restart o cups.
pois em Previlegios do Usuario
esta marcado ADMINISTRAR O SISTEMA.
Fiz o mesmo com o spdter... agora ele esta restartando o cups.

As substituições são um problema, quando estão isoladas elas funcionam
razoavelmente bem, mas utilizadas com outros comandos ou dentro de

um comando por linha e no seu caso voce esta separando por virgulas.
No segundo caso, não sei informar, nunca fiz uma macro-substituição

Mas execute a substiuição no terminal, se lá funcionar, no seu script
também funcionará.
O google é seu amigo, há varias páginas de exemplos do bash exibindo
como trabalhar substituições.
Mas para não ter problemas porque não alterar o script, eu faço minhas
entradas de senha assim :
stty -echo# desligando o echo momentaneamente para entrada da senha
echo Digite a senha : (caracteres nao serao visualizados)
echo (se voce der CTRL+C neste ponto terá que digitar reset no
prompt para ligar o echo novamente)
read password
stty echo # religando o echo
Será pouco provavel que voce tenha problemas novamente.

Quero dar permissao para o usuario desligar o servidor atraves deste
scripts.
02 - Nao consegui encontrar o problema da seguinte linha:
while read -s -n1 entrada [ ${entrada/[[:ctrl:]]/} ] (
Esta eh a linha 188 )
do echo -n \* senha=$senha$entrada;
done;
Erro que ocorre:
.sistemas: 188: syntax error: Bad substitution
Estes dois problemas, estao me impedindo de passar todos os meus
sistemas
do conectiva 10 para ubuntu.

Já usei o Brasero, GnomeBaker e o NeroLinux, como o objetivo do linux seria a liberdade fiquei com o K3B :) Demora um pouco para iniciar, mas é o único que chega aos pés do NeroLinux.. O Brasero ainda tem alguns erros imperdoáveis, já o GnomeBaker é uma luta para ele não finalizar a seção dos cds e depois gravar outra seção... Conforme disse o Vinícius... Eu também estou procurando um bom software pra gravar CD/DVD mas não queria instalar nada do KDE no meu Gnome. Já usei o K3B antes e sei que realmente é muito bom. Ele e o Amarok são duas coisas que ainda acho que não tem igual pra Gnome. Eh justamente essa a causa da minha pergunta.. Galera, me desculpem mas, squid? Não sei se é exatamente isso que procura o nosso amigo Fábio.. ou eu que não entendi de forma adequada a pergunta.. Caro Fábio, vamos lá. Eu estou procurando soluções para QOS, Otimização, Monitoramento. Também busco o bloqueio de aplicações por protocolos ao invés de somente por portas com o iptables. Para QoS te indico o shaper [ apt-get install shaper ] Dentro do /etc/shaper larga as regras e dá um /etc/init.d/shaper start e pronto.. QoS feito.. Estou usando aqui e estou bastante satisfeito... Tenho um material aqui, caso queira, entre em contato.. não vou mandar já agora porque não sei se eu entendi mal a tua pergunta... Pra monitoramento, a coisa é bastante ampla.. sugiro que inicie com o ntop apt-get install ntop depois inicia ele com um ntop -u ntop -i eth0 -w 3000 Chega uma hora que ele te solicita uma senha para o usuario de administração do ntop.. cadastre a senha, finalize ele com um control-c e depois ele estará pronto... sempre que deres o boot na maquina, ele iniciará junto.. ou então, se preferires, /etc/init.d/ntop start Sobre o bloqueio por protocolos, ainda assim te sugiro iptables.. podes bloquear por exemplo todas as 65535 portas do protocolo udp.. não sei se teu uso específico não pode ser feito dessa forma mas sempre usei iptables e nunca precisei de outra ferramenta.. Como dica para iptables, fica o seguinte link: Easy Firewall Generator for IPTables http://easyfwgen.morizot.net/gen/ Respondendo à meia dúzia de perguntas o php da página te joga na tela um script completo de firewall.. por default ele fecha todas as portas da tua máquina com excessão daquelas que tu especificar que precisam ficar abertas.. Jogue o conteúdo do script pra um arquivo, torne ele executável com um chmod 755 arquivo Eu tenho o hábito de jogar pra dentro de /etc/init.d/firewall Depois disso, vá até /etc/rc2.d e crie um link simbólico para o script de firewall.. algo mais ou menos assim: ln -s /etc/init.d/firewall S01firewall Explicando: Se deres um 'runlevel' na linha de comando, deves ter a saída 2.. esse eh o runlevel default do sistema.. em sistemas debian-like, eh praticamente sempre o 2.. a pasta /etc/rc2.d eh que indica os scripts que iniciarão naquele runlevel.. Jogando um link ali pra dentro, equivale a dizer que, toda vez que reiniciares a máquina, teu firewall irá iniciar com o sistema. Quem faz o script inicar é o 'S'..note que não adianta jogar o link lá pra dentro.. tens que referenciar o nome dele com um S no início para que o sistema compreenda que deve inicializar o firewall na inicialização do sistema.. Para fazer com que o firewall não inicialize mais com o sistema, existem duas opções: - remover o link - mudar o nome dele, substituíndo o 'S' por um 'K'.. nesse caso o boot encherga o link mas não inicializa o script.. Uso aqui e nunca tive problemas.. basta ler as instruções do proprio script e pronto! Eh um ponto bacana de começo. Cara, acredito que seja isso. Bohrer! Não sei se entendi bem tua dúvida. O K3b funciona perfeitamente bem no Gnome. Estou utilizando-o no Ubuntu Studio e não quero nenhum outro programa para gravar cd e dvds. Pra monitoramento, a coisa é bastante ampla.. sugiro que inicie com o ntop apt-get install ntop depois inicia ele com um ntop -u ntop -i eth0 -w 3000 Chega uma hora que ele te solicita uma senha para o usuario de administração do ntop.. cadastre a senha, finalize ele com um control-c e depois ele estará pronto... sempre que deres o boot na maquina, ele iniciará junto.. ou então, se preferires, /etc/init.d/ntop start Sobre o bloqueio por protocolos, ainda assim te sugiro iptables.. podes bloquear por exemplo todas as 65535 portas do protocolo udp.. não sei se teu uso específico não pode ser feito dessa forma mas sempre usei iptables e nunca precisei de outra ferramenta.. Como dica para iptables, fica o seguinte link: Easy Firewall Generator for IPTables http://easyfwgen.morizot.net/gen/ Respondendo à meia dúzia de perguntas o php da página te joga na tela um script completo de firewall.. por default ele fecha todas as portas da tua máquina com excessão daquelas que tu especificar que precisam ficar abertas.. Jogue o conteúdo do script pra um arquivo, torne ele executável com um chmod 755 arquivo Eu tenho o hábito de jogar pra dentro de /etc/init.d/firewall Depois disso, vá até /etc/rc2.d e crie um link simbólico para o script de firewall.. algo mais ou menos assim: ln -s /etc/init.d/firewall S01firewall Explicando: Se deres um 'runlevel' na linha de comando, deves ter a saída 2.. esse eh o runlevel default do sistema.. em sistemas debian-like, eh praticamente sempre o 2.. a pasta /etc/rc2.d eh que indica os scripts que iniciarão naquele runlevel.. Jogando um link ali pra dentro, equivale a dizer que, toda vez que reiniciares a máquina, teu firewall irá iniciar com o sistema. Quem faz o script inicar é o 'S'..note que não adianta jogar o link lá pra dentro.. tens que referenciar o nome dele com um S no início para que o sistema compreenda que deve inicializar o firewall na inicialização do sistema.. Para fazer com que o firewall não inicialize mais com o sistema, existem duas opções: - remover o link - mudar o nome dele, substituíndo o 'S' por um 'K'.. nesse caso o boot encherga o link mas não inicializa o script.. Uso aqui e nunca tive problemas.. basta ler as instruções do proprio script e pronto! Eh um ponto bacana de começo. Cara, acredito que seja isso. Caro João.. Na verdade não eh bem uma dúvida... A situação eh a seguinte: Conheco o k3b e acho ele um excelente software.. Mas poxa, se eu gostasse do kde, usaria kubuntu... aí pensei que devesse existir alguma alternativa próxima ao k3b para gnome.. sei que posso instalar o k3b no ubuntu com gnome e tudo mais mas são coisas distintas, entende? Minha intenção e / seria a de encontrar um software que seja parecido com o k3b porém baseado em gnome.. Me falaram do gnome-baker.. vou dar uma olhada e depois posto algum resultado.. I set back this bug has being not a duplicate because I think that this bug is different from the bug 53387 because the wpasupplicant package is different in Gutsy and is enabled and configured by default through the gnome-network-manager. The problem is the same, but I'm not sure that the cause for that problem is the same and I feel that my posts will give a better help tracking the problem if we don't mix Dapper/Edgy/Feisty with Gutsy. I just mounted the new drive (Western Digital MyBook Premium) using the USB port instead of firewire, and it shows no problem. I ran fsck and it said no errors. So I'm again trying to get back up and running using my data, this time using USB.
