Nice work man! Just one question: the gears illustrate work and progress, right?
I don't know why everybody uses gears to show this but IMO it a little bit
strange
and misleading at first sight. Can you try using some other symbol like hammer
or smth connected with the process of creation and collaboration (scissors,
paper, pencils ...).

[ubuntu-art] Kin Piano Progress

2008-08-03 Thread Ken Vermette
Hey Everyone;

I've been without an internet connection of my own for awhile, I've recently
moved so I'm waiting to get hooked up.

The Piano styling of Kin is still in the works, and some things are being
modified due to Emerald Pixmap limitations, but it is looking very good,
albut I had to remove the highlight on the top and bottom rims.

Meat and Potatoes;

What I'd really like to get at, is forming a Kin team to help unify
Kin-Theme development and diversify styles. We have Kith, Slab, Tonic,
Human2, Piano, Codname Plue and others; all being produced individually.
They all have several styles in common, so if we could get the people that
excel in their elements to work on what they do best - we could not only
have a diverse collection, but one with truly complete themes instead of
half-baked lemons.

Realistically, what I could dedicate to any team that forms is I personally
can create Emerald themes, from start-to-finish, and build Pixmap/SVG GTK
elements. Anything that could be done with SVG, I could help style and
concept.

What we would need on the team, would be actual GTK theme programming
(having several failed Kin GTK themes myself, I'm no good at it), Metacity
programming (although Kin Tonic metacity has set an EXCELLENT standard for
that, hopefully Tonic, I would like you to join the team). Additionally,
anybody with experience is tweaking themes on a program-level would be good.
In addition, bootsplash, logon pages and other interface elements could be
done, aswell, I can help produce graphics for those.

Going onto less-important assets (but assests nonetheless) we could also
give gnome-games a facelift (I know I've already started a couple graphical
tweaks for aislerot and a couple others), and other programs auch as Avant,
Kiba, Gnome-Panel applets, KDE, Firefox, etc. Any program that either
doesn't fit or looks outdated.

I don't know how to setup launchpad or other sites a team could be
established (unless I program a personal site, but I would prefer an already
ubuntu-oriented website) but when I get a solid connection I could set one
up, unless someone beats me to it (I get a connection on Wednsday, nudge
nudge, wink wink)

Lastly, as always, amazing work, everybody! All these themes are similar and
unique. One way or another, if we create a pallet of themes and suite of
components - it would be simple mix and match to maximize all of our themes
unique potential, and we could establish the level of organization required
to polish our themes.

Graphics Capability Question

2008-08-03 Thread Aditya Vishwakarma
Hi,

I wanted to enquire about some details about Graphics capability of the MID
devices.
From net, i found that Q1 Ultra has GMA 950 based system, That would mean
Directx 9.0c / opengl 1.4 + shading language + vertex buffer support.

However, being an low power device, I was wondering whether it would be
using opengl ES version or the standard Opengl. As OpenGL ES is designed for
mobile devices only.

It would be nice if someone can help me out here. I am thinking of making a
touchscreen based Opengl powered game and this info is rather critical in
it's design.

Hello vishal:
It depends on the kernel you are using
If you have 64bit kernel then the processes running will be 64 bit
To know the kernel version type the below command in a terminal

uname -a

If its 32bit then in the output it will be i686 GNU/Linux
If it is 64bit then in the output it will be x86 64 GNU/Linux

4 isn't many and probably isn't enough.

You'll lose one to the default gateway, one will be the network address and
one will be broadcast. So you'll end up with one :)

Get a block of 8 and then you'll have 5 usable.

 Chris

I once read[0] the definition as being that a geek's skills are more
saleable (so more valuable in our current society) than a nerd's - a
computer geek can fix your business work server or a language geek can
proofread your new sales brochure but people are unlikely to pay to to
hear a SF nerd list how much skin Scully flashes in each X-Files
episode.

I'm not sure I totally agree (I suspect that information has a
market ;) ) but think it's an interesting idea.

For anyone who prefers to use a less obvious method of searching, may I

with an extensive Google search - why hand it to monoliths on a plate?

 Jeffef
That sounds useful, however the TC's are a bit vague we don't collect

I've been using Scoogle.org for a while now... they really have a
paranoid streak... no data collection, log deletion etc.. have a look at
 their TC's... :)

Thought you might be interested in the outcome of a bit of digging
around on this. I discovered that if you just type some search terms
into the address bar of Firefox (as you might do by mistake, or a naive
user, not knowing the difference between the address bar and the search
bar, might do on purpose), Firefox passes these terms to Google, which
returns the search results.

This somewhat surprising behaviour on Firefox's part is due to a
Preference (see about:config) called 'keyword.URL' whose default value
is a google search string to which the words you enter get passed.

However, you can change the value of 'keyword.URL' to

https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?Gw=

and this will pass the words to a secure scroogle search.

This is more than just a fix for a default Firefox behaviour you might
not like if you are bothered about Google. Since Firefox does not have
scroogle as a 'search engine' to add to the search bar (not surprising,
seeing how Firefox gets a lot of financial support from Google), this
method provides a 'workaround' that lets you do instant searches with
Scroogle by typing search terms in the address bar.

 Operacional
eu tendo toda as atualizações eu presizarei baixalas ou é so instalar

arquivos .deb baixados. instale com sudo apt-get install aptoncd e o
execute em Sistema | Administração | APTonCD. Quando for reinstalar o
quer iniciar o Synaptic; vai montar, atualizar a lista e correr pro

arquivos em /var/cache/apt/archives e dava sudo dpkg -i * --- MAS NÃO

#
# PPA for Clamav Update Team
#
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-clamav/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-clamav/ubuntu hardy main

carregado, a palavra quiet.

[...]
## ## End Default Options ##

title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-19-generic
root(hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic

initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-19-generic
quiet
[...]

parede e nada acontece.
No meu entender ele
