At our last meeting, we talked about starting up the UDD bi-weekly meetings again this week (Wednesday Sept 7 @ 1100 UTC). However, both Martin and I are pretty tired of the old format, so let's think about how we can restructure the meeting to be most effective for everyone. If we really don't think we *need* them anymore, that's fine too. The main thing I appreciated about the meetings was hearing what other people had done towards UDD. I think a part of this is also that UDD as a project doesn't really have releases - and no really visible changelog. So despite a lot of things getting done, we normally wouldn't hear about them. Another thing that was occasionally useful was discussions about particular problems, like what to do about the project branch and packaging branch for a native package. The mailing list seems to work reasonably well for that sort of discussion too though, when it happens to come up. Oui, c'est possible, mais cela nécessite des modifications complexes au système (avec un haut risque d'erreur). C'est plutôt dépendant du genre de configuration que vous désirez, il est donc un peu difficile de donner des indications sur la marche à suivre. Voulez vous simplement un mot de passe différent? Thunderbird is going to be the default mail client in 11.10 and as such there has been considerable work in putting in Unity integration. Paul Unity's not half as bad on 11.10 - even in alpha it worked better than it did on 11.04. At the current beta stage, the communication deck (under the envelope icon) is acting very, very weird but the rest of it is working pretty well. I'm not getting the dock jamming or completely disappearing, or the desktop freezing and requiring re-logging in etc etc. Also the previously godawful alt+tab cycling now works properly - unlike 11.04 where you couldn't see WTF was going on or tell the app icons apart. The 'put' key combos work properly too. Integration of Mozilla stuff still sux a bit but it doesn't seem to be crashing Unity as badly as it did on 11.04. Nice job! I'm still not crazy about the loss of widgets and it's crap lack of customisation options in general (bloody 'ell, you can't even create a custom launcher in 11.10 without editing a ruddy .desktop file manually - that really is inconvenient! OK non-techies don't want to run scripts but do you want to chase people who do away?) but at least it works overall. Also, it's now very *pretty* - which makes me feel a lot better about it and I can finally get proper transparency on the dock with compiz manager. I had to change my way of working on the desktop drastically but memory of the pain is now fading. Most of all, I did Fossbox' first workshop on 're-use with Ubuntu' with 11.04 a couple of months ago and all the non-techies really loved the Unity interface. I thought they'd never work it out as it seems ridiculously complicated to me but it turns out if you're not used to GNOME classic, it's actually easier to learn because it's like a smartphone with an app store. So s'pose that's the proof of the pudding. People aren't expecting to be able to customise their desktop experience so that's not bothering them either. My worst problem on Oneiric is that, at the moment, I can't sync anything - syncevolution not working properly (and logs not telling me anything I can use) and funambol seem to have given up on Linux/TBird (plugin for 6 seems to be 'in development' as a community sideline so not holding my breath for TBird 7 funambol plugin). Hoping the promised duplex integration with Ubuntu One contacts will be finished quick - but that still leaves my calendars limping along on ical. Seems a bit premature to make TBird default when it can't even sync with my memotoo account any more? Why on earth Mozilla didn't use opensync in the first place often puzzles me - ah, yes, Windows users . . . well, at least we'll get some sort of a choice now - but why sync to Ubuntu One? I use Ubuntu One for files, but not for syncing my PIM (cos it doesn't do it right and I've no idea how that would work on my maemo phone and I'm not faffing around on the cli when there's a perfectly good GUI syncml client for it). Why not either make Ubuntu One sync my contacts, cals and tasks *properly* like memotoo with GUI clients for main smartphone OSs or let me have the choice to use opensync with memotoo which already does the job fabulously. Opensync ain't broke so why fix it - when contacts first synced with Ubuntu One it broke syncevolution - you now get a choice about whether to install couchdb but if you've no choice about sync protocols, it's pointless. It's the one thing Evolution does perfectly - for everything else, Evolution is horrible. Nevertheless, I tried to switch to Evolution so I can have sync - but even syncevolution's not working with Evolution. What I want is TBird with PROPER opensync. Please? I wouldn't even mind paying UbuntuOne for this - given that I pay memotoo AND I pay UbuntuOne already for file sync - but it has to really work as this is a crucial aspect of my working life. The point of now-defunct scheduleworld and memotoo is that they sync anything to anything without fuss. That's how it should be . . . the setup with TBird default mail client syncing only to UbuntuOne is perilously close to lock-in - and lock-in to something that doesn't actually work as well. By all means compete with Memotoo/syncevolution, but at least offer something comparable? I also haven't yet tried setting up remote desktops - so here's hoping Unity 2D works with neatx (assuming neatx will ever be maintained) or x2go - will test this soon. NX goes to GNOME classic on 11.04, will it go to 2D on Oneiric? Is that supported by NX? There was some talk about getting x2go into Oneiric but I don't know if this happened - or if that will work with 2D? Anyway, if you're desperate for classic, apparently you can still install the package gnome-session-fallback on Oneiric but I think might as well either bite the Unity/Gnome 3 bullet and get it over with or change to XFCE really. In theory, yes, although I have done a similar thing in the past (installed xubuntu-desktop on server 10.04, then installed ubuntu-desktop) and while they can then be selected from the login menu, the two systems aren't separate. Hy, LightDm login manager what accessibility services are supporting now? When my wife look in Oneiric alpha2 or alpha 3 the LightDm accessibility settings, if I remember right LightDm supports large font accessibility service (hopefuly I remember right). Happened any change since alpha 3 with LightDm accessibility services supporting? For example, final Oneiric release LightDm login manager will be supporting accessible login feature for screen reader support, similar with GDM? If not, possible replacing LightDm to GDM login manager after installation, or a modified live CD? for example new accessibility handle casper module supports both two login managers? Good afternoon, I thought it's probably able time we start thinking about where and when we should hold our next release party up here in Brisbane seems how Sydney already has one planned. It is going to be released on October the 13th according to the release schedule so I was thinking something on Saturday the 15th or Sunday the 16th would probably be the best. Anyone have any suggestions on where/when would be a good time? Lets start brainstorming. I haven't been there yet, but apparently it's pretty ideal for this sort of stuff. Talvez tenha que atualizar, verifique. Adauto, Você o instalou para testar e atualizou os pacotes? Eu fiz os testes como o sistema via pendrive e não encontrei esta opção. Quanto a performance realmente fiquei surpreso até mesmo na minha modesta máquina de escrever, ops digo notebook Celeron com 512MB. Em um desktop Quadcore também fiquei satisfeitíssimo e olhe que estou falando de performance do Beta1 e rodando via pendrive. Só não me empolguei a instalar porque no desktop de casa o ambiente gráfico não carregou - deve ser culpa do drive da placa ATI, sei lá. Como ainda é o Beta 1 não vou ficar quebrando a cabeça, vou esperar o próximo beta e ver no que dá. Boa Galera Marlon , eu estou usando Gufw e configurei o mesmo para iniciar junto com o sistema. Ao inicializar o Ubuntu (8.04) logo apos eu fazer logim aparece uma tela de logim do Gufw , só que se eu demorar para logar a tela some e o micro trava , tenho que resetar para novo boot É assim mesmo ou eu to com algum problema na instalçao ? [Ubuntu-be] Stepping down from Ubuntu-be
Hi all, As a few of you already know, long ago I started to the legal and administrative process to immigrate to Canada. This process is nearly complete and I'm now authorized to work and live in Canada (I'm just waiting for the papers to reach my home). In a few months (in January I hope), I should move there to enjoy maple syrup and snowy winter. I you may guess, I've plenty of stuffs to sort out before leaving and will have plenty of stuff to do once I'll be there. Also, it makes little sense to be a remote member of a local community such a Ubuntu-be. So, I'm stepping down from Ubuntu-be. I'm not very active in events and other initiatives, so I don't thing my workforce will be missed there. I'm, however, the current webmaster for the Ubuntu-be website and its supporters map. So, I'm looking for somebody to take over the position. The website is powered by Drupal 6 and only requires little maintenance (mainly periodic updates of Drupal core and contrib modules). The map was build with additional modules (OpenLayers, CCK and Views) with custom module to ensure their configuration (using the Features module). But this code is not up to date with the latest configuration changes. I can meet interested candidates on IRC, Jabber or even IRL on Bxl to discuss the handover and/or give details. Mail is also an option, even on the ML. I'm not very active in events and other initiatives, so I don't thing my workforce will be missed there. I'm, however, the current webmaster for the Ubuntu-be website and its supporters map. So, I'm looking for somebody to take over the position. The website is powered by Drupal 6 and only requires little maintenance (mainly periodic updates of Drupal core and contrib modules). The map was build with additional modules (OpenLayers, CCK and Views) with custom module to ensure their configuration (using the Features module). But this code is not up to date with the latest configuration changes. I can meet interested candidates on IRC, Jabber or even IRL on Bxl to discuss the handover and/or give details. Mail is also an option, even on the ML. Hi all, занимаюсь тут маленько сайтостроительством в Убунте. Стоит apache,php,mysql,joomla ... Ну все как надо. Апач настроен, что сайты у меня находятся в отдельных папочках, а не /var/www как у него по умолчанию настроено. На локальной машине к сайту обращаюсь например http://мой-сайт Вопрос, как открыть 'мой-сайт' с другой маст-дай-машины, находящейся в моей домашней сети ? Скорее всего Apache настроен на работу с так называемыми виртуальными серверами, он в запросе от браузера смотрит домен к которому обращаются и на основании этого для работы использует нужный каталог. Если обращаться по IP адресу, то Apache будет выбирать каталог по умолчанию. Для того, что бы с другой машины в сети открывалось, то что нужно необходимо в браузере набирать именно название домена, а не IP адрес. А что бы браузер узнал, по какому IP адресу нужно подключаться, нужно воспользоваться советом насчет внесения изменения в hosts.
